If they ever make it so the airfield is viewable from the terminal, I hope they get rid of the pesky spotty windows. I don't think it'll ever happen though. But, I could still stand there for minutes on end.

Anyone interested in BHX nostalgia should look out for a book by Mike Vines; an excellent insight of the airport in the late 80's/early 90's. Some great memories.

My Dad used to have that book, from what I remember there was a picture of a Britannia 767 on the front, I've been trying to remember the author for years.

Just ordered a copy off Amazon for £2.80.

There are similar ones available for MAN and LGW too; looking back it's amazing to see how much the airport has changed over the years - for good and bad.

The book arrived yesterday and wow, what a trip down memory lane. Caledionian Tristars, BA and Birmingham European Airlines 1-11's, Nationair 757's, the old Britannia and Air 2000 liveries, Air UK 146's, Balkan TU-154'sos, SAS and British Midland DC9's, Swiss MD81's, Airtours MD83's, Dan Air London. The Eurohub looks so clean and new and you gotta love those shell suits

Strange to think that during that period the only scheduled wide-body was a Cyrpus A310; shame that the book predates the BA and AA 767s and the CO DC10s. Sadly the Orion A300s were already a thing of the past by then. But you're right; gotta love the Balkan TU154s....and the shell suits! I have a picture of me infront of a Caledonian Tristar at Mahon....in a shell suit!

I think you will find that the MP MD11 was a football special (which managed to be delayed due to an issue with the tow bar used for push back). If memory serves me right the aircraft was delayed due to a problem when the tow bar broke and damaged either the brakes or hydraulic system. MP ended up sending engineers over in a light aircraft to try and sort the problem out. We ended up having 2 MP MD11's on the deck at the same time that day!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
