It would have been up a bit further up the Cov Rd into town, probably around Charles Rd. The asda was built on the site of the rootes car factory which was there when I was born. We lived in St Benedicts Rd and I can remember hanging a right and going up towards the shops in my pram!

From memory of my spotting days, there were 2 Cessna aircraft based at BHX belonging to the Warwickshire Aero club. They were registered G-OWAC and G-OWAK.
There may well have been others but these 2 spring to mind as the regs were so similar.
Think they may have been a little later. I think one may have been G-A--- and the other G-B---

I was not clear apologies, I meant within the shopping centre above New Street Station! It wa a very long time ago.

I'm sure that would have been Beatties. It was sort of divided in two with toys on one side and models (kits, railways etc) on the other. I remember the cabinets with excellently made and detailed model aircraft in them.

I referred to Beatties in an earlier post -

Later, probably aged around 11 or 12, myself and my cousin would travel by bus, train then another bus on many Saturdays. We would always call in at Beatties model/toy shop (above New Street Station - anyone remember that?) on the way back and come home with a model kit.

Now it's very unlikely anyone will have this info but I've been trying to remember the reg numbers of a couple of Cessna's that I used to see doing circuits for hours mostly on 06/24, one was a blue and white 150 and the other a red and white 172.

I think the red and white one might have been G-ATRD (a very unfortunate reg). I probably have some photos (also the 150), but may take some time to dig them out.
I may even have flown in one of them, as I was bought a trial flying lesson for my 21st birthday with I think the Warwickshire Aero Club.

Regards

Kevin

I flew 2 when I did my ppl with Executive Air, a 150 G-BBKA and a 152 G-CPFC. KA was blue and white for sure, I seem to recall FC was also but maybe had some black on it. Having watched circuit training from the old viewing lounge for so long I dreaded a runway 06 circuit as I pictured all the eyes on my performance. My first solo was on 33 and I was vectored in number 2 behind the Wardair heavy. Fun times

bbka was the 150 I remember. None of the other regs sound familiar but the 172 was definitely red and white and I am sure had 'a' prefix .

5 years too late for me! Never noticed at the time but the tail is huuuge on a Herald. Remember BMA and the occasional BAF heralds.

Thinking again your right it was AWLY. I thought red cheat line but could have been brown. Turns out this was a 150 not a 172. Sure it was a172 with spats on the wheels. Getting confused now!

Does anyone remember this operating from BHX in 1983?

I'm sure I do. I always remember with the Heralds, ATC giving instruction for taxi, and the Pilots replying they needed a couple of minutes 'for the temperatures to come up'.

I also remember G-ATIG, which was backwards and forwards to LHR like a yo-yo.

Hi Kevin, ATIG was with Brymon around 81/82 and I flew on her once down to Gatwick (I was the only passenger) where I connected to one of their twin otters over to Plymouth. Pretty sure it was only used from BHX on the LGW route although all my other flights with them were on the twin otters.

Hi, Spentaylor

She certainly looked good in Brymon colours, but I'm thinking a little further back to her days with BMA.
I very much remember the Brymon Twin Otters on the LGW service.

BGKN I remember very well, how about the German King Air D-IBAH?
Wasnt sure about that so googled D-IBAH and found a picture of it taken from under the wing of a Cessna 172 with brown and orange cheatlines! I think it might have been a previous king air that I remember. What struck me was how clean GKN kept their aircraft.

Paid only my second ever visit to the multi storey today, first time was 1978 to see the qantas 747. Got there just in time for the A380. Its quite a good spot for viewing now the hangar has gone.
Going back to the GKN King air, I think it probably was D-IBAH that we used to see. It would have been virtually brand new then.
The search is now on for a scanner the same as I used to use. Remembered it was a Realistic jetsream mini and that my mate used to take the p@@@ out of it (think he had a Sharp which was perceived as superior) As I said in an earlier post I much preferred the old fashioned tuning wheel to the digital tuning nonsense on my Bearcat thing.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
