Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Reported in another part of the forum, this afternoons KL1497 diverted to LBA due freezing fog at Humberside.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

An E190 operated this mornings flight I believe, due to the backlog caused by the cancelled nightstopper. A first visit to HUY I believe.

Edit; supposidly it was the third visit from an E190..

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

AMS: 8143 -10%
ABZ: 2475 6%
Oil Rigs: 3008 -7%

Total month: 14,471 -4%
Rolling Year: 232,985 -14.5%

A question mark over a few of the S13 flights due to the closure of Orbest Orizonia. Thomas Cook have taken their PMI off sale, and Lowcostholidays/jetXtra have stopped sales on their PMI and ALC flights. jetXtra claim on Facebook that there are four airlines being considered as replacements. Hopefully Thomas Cook can feel compelled to replace their own flights rather than let them fizzle out and rebook passengers from elsewhere..

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Future of Orbest Airlines now secure and the flights are back on sale.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

T3775 Eastern Airways Aberdeen - Humberside and the KL1499 KLM Amsterdam to Humberside flights have diverted to Leeds this evening due fog at Humberside.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

It would appear that Avro/Cosmos are now selling package holidays from HUY on the new Tuesday flights to ALC and PMI.

A positive step from an extablished company and possibly the potential for more in the future.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

That is good news. With an established holiday company taking seats on these flights they look as if they will "take off" :yahoo:

Interesting to see such a reliable and established company use what was effectively spamming tactics to further their gain. Now you've had your say would you be able to provide us with details of which will be operating the flights on behalf of JetXtra.com?

New flights to Alicante and Palma started today..

http://www.itv.com/news/calendar/update ... e-airport/

Interesting interview with the Business Development Manager, who seems more concerned with talking about Volotea than jetXtra! Hopefully more from them next year.

Also, Bristows will be building a purpose built facility to cater for the SAR helicopters when they take over the contract from the RAF in 2015. Unfortunately, the RAF will be leaving Leconfield after over 70 years in residence.. It would appear that the new facility at HUY will be built on the current short cross runway, so it can be assumed that we will be left with just the main 02/20 runway thereafter.

HUY and North Lincolnshire Council have applied for funding for major road improvements on and around the airport. The plans will include a new 'gateway' access to the airport from the A18, presumably in the form of a roundabout. Also, the improvements to the junction of Caistor Road is planned which will also involve the widening of Caister Road to open up the Eastern end of the site for further development. Part of this will be the new SAR facility, but it has been mentioned in the past that they are looking to move all GA activity to that side of the airfield too..

In general, business appears to be looking up.

Announcement due tomorrow from 6am on local BBC news and radio according to airport Twitter feed. A new 'business' route has been rumoured so it will be interesting to see what this announcement is.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Excellent news Pug. Will you keep us informed just in case it's not featured on the West and South Yorkshire versions of BBC Look North.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

If what is reported elsewhere is true then tomorrows announcement could be about SAS Scandinavian Airlines starting direct flights from Humberside to Copenhagen commencing from the start of the Winter 2013/2014 season. Read that flights will be operated by Cimber CRJ200 aircraft.

To be honest with you I actually think this should work from Humberside. The Humber region is now seen as one of the growing areas in the UK for companies involved in the Energy efficiency & renewable energy sources. Most of these companies seem to Scandinavian based but employing local people. It may also be handy to support the area's fishing community if it allows for more fresh fish stoke to be directly imported.
Also it will allow for even more options for long haul connections to be made via Copenhagen on to SAS Worldwide route network instead of using KLM's Amsterdam service...

Humberside gets direct Danish flights

Thursday, June 13, 2013

HOLIDAYMAKERS and the business community have been given a major boost with an air link to Denmark unveiled today.

Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) will operate a six-day-a-week service from Humberside Airport to Copenhagen.

'PERFECT TIME': Scandinavian Airlines will be touching down at Humberside Airport from October.

The deal is a major coup for Humberside and is being linked to the region's growing reputation as a European renewables hub. Denmark is one of the world's leading countries in the renewables industry.

SAS's direct service from Humberside to the Danish capital is scheduled to start on October 28.

The flights will operate six days a week. Tickets will be on sale from Monday, with one-way flights starting from £103, including taxes and charges.

SAS said, with a growing renewables industry, which includes Siemens's proposed wind turbine plant in Hull and Able UK's development on the south bank, it was the "perfect time" for the airline to arrive at Humberside.

Hans Dyhrfort, SAS's regional general manager for Western Europe, said: "With more than five million people living within reach of the airport, the Humber region is an important northern hub and area of development for SAS.

"And with the area on its way to becoming the renewable energy capital of the UK, now is the perfect time to strengthen ties with Denmark and the Nordic region.

"We are pleased to offer pas sengers the choice and flexibility to fly direct from Humberside to Copenhagen or onwards to many other destinations in Scandinavia and Northern Europe".

Paul Litten, Humberside International Airport's commercial director, said tourists and businesspeople would benefit from the service.

He said: "The announcement of a new, high-profile route to Copenhagen is great news for Humberside International Airport, as we will be providing the only non-stop, direct service to Scandinavia from the Humber, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire region."

"The new service will not only benefit business travellers heading to the city of Copenhagen and those connecting onwards to a comprehensive network of Scandinavian cities, but also leisure travellers taking short breaks in Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Baltic countries.

"SAS's commitment underlines their view that the Humber, Lincolnshire and Yorkshire region is a place to do business, and this service will provide superb connectivity to Scandinavia and beyond.

"Today is a major milestone, attracting Scandinavian Airlines to Humberside as we develop a range of convenient services for those five million passengers within an hour's drive of the airport."

It is thought Humberside Airport is hoping the move by SAS will attract interest from other European carriers, which could open up future links to central and northern Europe.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Great news for the airport and the Humberside/East Yorkshire region and a huge coup for the airport.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Humberside has been in the "doldrums" too long. It is brilliant news for the airport, a prestigious international route that no else in Yorkshire has. Well done. :good:

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

It is rather excellent news, and I hope the business community make good on their word and support the service. It would appear that it has been established in a way that will compliment KLM.

Further route news is expected in the coming months. The agreement with Volotea appears to be in the process of expanding for S14 with flights to Menorca, Faro and Malaga being mentioned as new routes.

Certainly, it would appear that the replacement of an owner which pursued a very 'corporate' approach, to one which is very focussed upon HUY and the Humber region is already paying off. Long may it continue, as like Seasider said HUY has been in the doldrums for several years now.

CAA Passenger figures for June 2013

A total of 26,055 passengers used Humberside Airport during June this year, thats 7.6% up on June last year. Rolling year passenger totals stand at 230,447 passengers down -9.3% on the previous twelve months.

All in all a very good month for Humberside airport with green shoots of growth showing signs of a longer term recovery.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Couple of decent articles in the local papers recently..

Interesting quote..

More could be on the horizon, too, on the back of the Scandinavian Airlines model, linking with western Europe.

"The Independent Transport Commission has talked about Heathrow as a hub, but also a need to push capacity out to the regions. We have taken that on board and have been speaking to other scheduled airlines. If we get German companies bringing German people in to the area, why not talk to German airlines? There is a lot of expertise in western Europe, and do they want to fly across and then have to spend five hours in a car? They could be at site within an hour of touching down here."

Sustainable growth is key, and the frequencies on offer by SAS will hopefully prove successful for them. This may open up the possibility of similar frequencies by a German operator, particularly is Siemens invest in the area.

I feel there may be more announced regarding S14 in the coming weeks.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
