They didn't take long to appoint a new MD for NQY. He will take up his post in May. He is Pete Downes who will join from his current position at London City Airport where he is aviation director.

He was head of aviation at Bristol Airport for a while and I remember having a chat with him at one of the early consultation meetings re BRS expansion plans. Presumably he followed the previous BRS CEO, Robert Sinclair, to LCY where he is now CEO. I hadn't realised Pete Downes had left BRS. He might be a future BRS CEO I suppose but he certainly has plenty of material at NQY to get his teeth into.

It must be one of the most agreeable positions for someone in aviation - head of your airport and living in Cornwall.

On local tv, the pso newquay to london route will go out to tender next week, the council have been trying to find a operater. So now its up for any airline to bid of, if they can find one or any body will take a big risk, my guess blue islands or eastern, bring back air southwest i say..

Or maybe BA?

BA Heathrow (Willy Walsh money where your mouth is time) or easyJet LGW. City flyer would be best for equipment but can’t see LCY being the end point.
we need it back either way.
Manchester daily is also a big loss

Just wondering if anyone was cited on Newquay spitting aircraft? Tons of space.. easy use for training.. now they are grounding, that’s a lot of planes to store!

It looks like they are to store aircraft at airports that are bases. These airports have the staff to do maintainance.

Quote in the article from Newquay CEO
“We rely on a subsidy from the public purse to stay open. Do you want to keep Cornwall connected to the wider world, or is the price simply too high to pay?

Misleading headline as NQY has remained open for maintenance and storage flights, contractor's flights and and emergency use.

This article is about passneger flights restarting.

Im surprised no one has picked up NQY-LPL

NQY is APD free in respect of the PSO services, so previously with BE and now with BA. The one thing I am not clear about is whether it is APD free for all flight connecting onwards or just the initial NQY-XXX flight. The APD exemption relates to the LHR route's status as being operated under a Public Service Obligation.

INV is definitely exempt for onward flights, so no APD for a INV-LHR-JFK routing. The basis of the exemption is very different, some regions in the UK can be designated as non-chargeable for APD and this is based on areas having a population density of not more than 12.5 persons per square kilometre. INV is in one of those regions. A booking from Sumburgh would be the same being in a non-chargeable region, and so a LSI-EDI-JFK booking would not be charged APD.

The message coming out from the council seems to be that they want a financial grant from the government which it is not currently prepared to make but will make a loan. However, the council doesn't want to go down that road.

The backstop appears to be a diversion of council money to the airport that was earmarked for the spaceport project.

Perhaps the enquiry being carried out for the government on improving transport links across the UK might come up with something that would help NQY and other airports in a similar predicament.

Well i hope they come up with something as at the moment the UK government does seem quite happy to let the aviation industry and travel industry rot.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
