Newquay Airport - Video Thread

This video is of a Flybe Q400 flying from NQY to STN in 2015. I've posted it as it shows how close NQY is to the coast. The departure was on runway 30 and shortly after take-off the Q400 turns right overhead what I believe is the small Trenance Bay, but I stand to be corrected on that identification.

Soon after that a disused airfield comes into view which is the former WW2 RAF St Eval. The runways are still in place although no longer used as such. Interestingly RAF St Eval was little more than two miles to the north of RAF St Mawgan, now the site of NQY, which was another WW2 airfield.

nice video showcasing the Cornish coastline. Interesting to see all the air bridges at Stansted and yet hardly ever used with the loco's opting for mobile stairs... To much time connecting to them! Maybe they could offload a couple to Bristol so those on charters don't have to stand in the rain...

I have spent many an hour on that beach at Mawgan Porth as well as the one in the distance which I believe is Constantine Bay?

Going slightly off topic there is a karting circuit at St Eval which can be made out in the video. I've not been myself but I have heard from others that it is an excellent track.

Easyjet A319 from Liverpool to Newquay.

I've often thought about booking a few nights camping at Watergate Bay (seen as the aircraft is on short finals around 32:42) but haven't got round to it as yet.

These videos certainly highlight NQY's enviable location. Straight out of the aircraft and into rural or coastal Cornwall (which is what most of the county is anyway - one or the other, or both). I always meant to fly down to NQY with Air Southwest from BRS. I suggested to my wife that she could drive the car down so we'd have transport on arrival. She wasn't particularly enthusiastic about that arrangement but like so many things in life the opportunity passed before I'd got round to it.

Although I've lived in the West Country for much of my life I've never flown from NQY or EXT - the latter was almost put right this year as we had made tentative plans to fly from EXT to Lanzarote in December with my wife's brother and his wife - they live in Devon. We then found the dates didn't fit in with our other commitments.

I'd love to use NQY. It looks as though it's what transiting airports was like 30-40 years ago - civilised.

Lovely blue sea it's been a while since i've been to Cornwall! And as forest1979 said those airbridges are practically pointless at STN!

Certainly a beautiful part of the country. Flew into Newquay from Alicante this year and we tracked the south coast all the way to st Austell bay then turned inland, over Eden and the dramatic clay pits before landing.. great approach.
You can see why the Germans love it!

Great vid : -) Its Flybe doing this route now, just once a week in the summer, considering the A319 was full, a bit more capacity from Flybe would be nice to see.

No, nothing to do with time. One simple factor - cost! Low Cost Airlines cut their outgoings back to the bone and so would not pay for 'premium' services such as airbridges.
I'm sure Stansted would happily sell some airbridges to Bristol. They must have cost Stansted a fortune (the last single airbridge installation at Birmingham - a high level airbridge to service the upper deck of the A380, was rumoured to have cost £1M) and I doubt that they have recovered their costs.

If you connect to an airbridge all pax load/unload through one door. If using mobile steps two doors can be used so time will be saved this way. (I agree it will be cheaper as well)
