Those were the days eh Carl. ICI Wilton and Billingham plus the steel works in the area were the driving force for the Teesside economy. MME was a small but very busy little airport then but it has been downhill all the way for ICI and steel since then with the subsequent economic woes for all. It is good to see that someone is attempting to do something about this although I doubt we will see the same levels of economic activity without very large amounts of public money being pumped into the area. Only then will we see a proper MME revival.

Indeed, seems incredible that such an icon British brand as ICI should have disappeared .

My questions are (1) Will they be able to fill the 76 seats and if they can will they make any money on the route and (2) how reliable will they be as just a Friday and Monday flight doesn't leave any room for cancellations or tech aircraft?

Flights aren't onsale. Bookable 3rd March and i'd be surprised they couldn't make money from it especially a route like Alicante.

I'm sure an MME to ALC would sell, Alicante must be near the top if not the top favourite sun destination.

Little by little Teesside needs to build from a very low point hopefully things work out for the airport that really has been brought to its knees over the last few years.

KLM MME-AMS gone to 1 per day up to 28 Mar, then suspended .

Looks like Channel Islands based tour operator Jersey Travel have got Eastern Airways to take over running the ex Flybe operated weekly charter flight from Teeside to Jersey for summer 2020.

Operates 1x weekly on Saturdays from 6th June to 12th September 2020.

Blimey - so Leeds only has seasonal Jersey and Guernsey and Southampton as domestic routes. Surely MME must now has more destinations on offer than LBA!

The LBA Commercial Team really do have their work cut-out to redress the balance here.
