Changing track slightly this is the view from the BHX Travelodge. Airport view rooms can be requested and prices are good if booked well in advance, I'm tempted myself :)

With thanks to Lisa Wroe ‏@carloverlisa on Twitter for the pictures.

What is the old terminal being used for at the moment? It's a shame that we're trying and getting nowhere but it would help if we had statistics to present, where to get that from is another matter. There was that petition which nothing came of.

Anyone have any further ideas?

I have come accross a team of avaition specialists they are based around the globe but may be interested(perhaps) thay are called Intro Aviation and there email is - [email protected].

Give them a try ;)

I noticed, what looked to be, a flat pack shelter had been delivered to the viewing area. Not sure if it's up yet but good to see that there will once again be protection from showers :good:

Glad to see that BHX has - "For all vistors and spotters and the whole family who wish to spend a day at the airport a multi milliuon pound investment to compete with Manchesters facility"

Wish i had known that a smoking shelter was all that was needed - i would have brought one myself

Just found out that multi storey car park on the Elmdon site may be closed off from anyone but permit holders. No more spotters! Roumor is that there have been a lot of complaints about litter and anti social behaviour which have forced the landlord to make this decision.

It wouldn't supprise me if the airport try to put a higher fence up around the park or worse still closed off panels like at Heathrow.

I believe the new bus shelter must have been pretty packed yesterday. More of that and maybe they'll see fit for a proper facility. There's more need for it now more than ever before.

Regarding the car park. Would it be not be possible to issue people with a genuine interest permits even if there was a small charge to cover administration?

I can see where you are going with this one. The main problem is certain unsavoury characters appear to have been using the car park for various activities that are best not discussed amongst polite company. The rubbish being left behind is not just food wrappings etc but more "suspect" items including drugs equipment (needles & hippy crack canisters are the main items) as well as used condoms. The cost for putting a barrier on the car park will reach into the thousands (although I remember a barrier being in place when this was the staff car park my Father used to use this when he worked here). The big thing to think about is how someone will be able to justify to NCP that they are a legitimate spotter and not going to let their pass be used by other people. The other thing to consider is that a number of Companies (mine included) use this car park on a daily basis and have struggled in the past to obtain a parking spot when something of high interest is coming in. Yesterday the top storey of the car park was full of pedestrians (and more than a few cars). I don't think it would be far off the mark if the number of tickets purchased for parking was way less than the number of cars parked. We as a company pay quite a bit for parking every 12 months and I do not think there would be that many spotters willing to pay what we pay per car for parking over a 12 month period.

I think I have only ever been in the multi storey once (1978 to watch the Qantas 747) and that was as a pedestrian so am not at all familiar with it. I didn't realise that it wasn't barrier controlled. That being the case the only way NCP will ever stop undesirables using it would be to have barriers installed. The only people that would take any notice of a permit only system are the ones that don't cause a problem.

It's a real shame that these characters are spoiling it for everyone. It's a good spot and it's great to see families up there on a sunny afternoon.

NCP are very accommodating for enthusiasts and generally tolerate people using the top floor. One of the guys in the office is a bit of an enthusiast and occasionally stops for a chat. You can understand their point of view though, the amount of rubbish was bad enough but with what happens up there some evenings it was only a matter of time before it was closed off. Even the police patrol doesn't seem to have deterred people.

It's a shame that they can't block it off after dark.

Same old story, minority of people ruining things for everyone else.
Can't imagine NCP being short of a few bob so put in barriers, issue passes and see what happens. If enthusiasts had to pay an annual fee for a pass I can almost guarantee it would stop the problem because the undesirable element wouldn't be prepared to pay a penny for the use of the car park. Of course this unfortunately would then become someone else's problem.

It still keeps coming back round to an eventual need for something decent and purpose built, not quite on manchesters league but certainly better than what is Not being provided so far, just needs some sustantial backing(i'm worlking on something so keep with me on this one)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
