Morocco is where easyJet want to double presence ...

Between them Ryanair and easyjet have flights from LGW, LTN, STN, MAN, BRS, GLA and EDI to Agadir and/or Marrakesh.

With a new easyjet base and a supposed deal with Ryanair it's now time for Birmingham to get a piece of the pie.

We also still have the Jet2 rumour lurking in the background.

I've been looking at a potential break next Easter with easyjet holidays but am struggling a little.

Initially I fancied Barcelona but when I select Mon April 1st as the departure date, Fri April 5th seems to blank itself out. I've looked at Jersey, Costa Blanca, Tenerife and Berlin with all showing exactly the same thing? Every other week seems fine.

With it being the second week of the Easter school holidays coming back the following Monday is not an option, so it's Mon-Fri or nothing.

I'm now looking at the Canary Islands in Feb with Jet2 instead.

Very odd? 🤷‍♂️

Interesting article about what easyjet holidays will hopefully bring to Birmingham. It looks as though BHX will be casting their net into some of the neighbouring counties to try and claw back some business.

This paragraph in particular stood out to me, it's clear that there is much more that needs to be done.

Analysis showed Birmingham was losing passengers within its core one-hour drive catchment to competitor airports, including 2.5 million a year to Spain and the Canaries. Birmingham, Screen said, received only 48% of its catchment’s traffic to Alicante, 49% to Palma and 54% to Malaga.

I think there is a lot of lost pax that are willing to travel to other not so local airports to fly to destinations that are served by BHX…. It’s often a lot cheaper unfortunately & I know of a couple of friends recently fly from CPH SYD CTA all at massively different price

A simple question. Why is it so much cheaper to fly from other airports?
The epitome of Supply and Demand

An example of what we are dealing with….. Flights to Budapest in Mid December

Proof that in this regard, BHX is not the most expensive, in fact it’s the 2nd cheapest (£104), but second by being TWICE as expensive as LTN in 1st Place at £49 with an airline that floods the market with 3x daily flights between LTN and Budapest vs BHX’s 5x weekly flights. In terms of size vs frequeny, BHX/BRS/MAN all seem pretty well matched, but LTN, and airport thats not even twice the size of BHX has over 3x the number of flights. Alas, if you are located anywhere near the M1, you can imagine which airport is going to win….

BHX-BUD
  • ÂŁ27 - ÂŁ197 (av ÂŁ104)
  • 5x weekly flights, 2 operators (Jet2 and Wizz), non-op on Thu/Sun
LTN-BUD
  • ÂŁ24 - ÂŁ130 (av ÂŁ49)
  • 21x weekly flights, 1 operators (Wizz)
MAN-BUD
  • ÂŁ73 - ÂŁ287 (av ÂŁ154)
  • 12x weekly flights, 2 operators (Jet2 and Ryanair)
BRS-BUD
  • ÂŁ45 - ÂŁ262 (av ÂŁ127)
  • 4x weekly flights, 1 operators (Ryanair), non-op on Tue-Thu

Another example, same week but this time flying to Gran Canaria where BHX is the most expensive.

This time whilst we have decent frequency, only 1 flight of our 9x weekly is a lowcost airline (Ryanair), the remaining 8x flights are holiday operator (TUI and Jet2). In this case, Ryanair charge nearly whatever they like as it will almost certain to be below the Jet2 and TUI fair. In the other examples below, they compete with Easyjet where they bring the cost lower. At LTN where its only Easyjet and Ryanair, you can see how the average price plummets. They wont make money at this price but they cant go higher as they will lose out to the other.

BHX-LPA
  • ÂŁ39-ÂŁ284 (Av Price ÂŁ110)
  • 9x weekly, 3 operators (Jet2, Ryanair, TUI), Non-op Wed
LTN-LPA
  • ÂŁ26-ÂŁ68 (Av Price ÂŁ45)
  • 4x weekly, 2 operators (EasyJet, Ryanair), Non-op Mon/Wed/Thu
MAN-LPA
  • ÂŁ33-ÂŁ197 (Av Price ÂŁ90)
  • 14x weekly, 4 operators (Easyjet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI)
BRS- LPA
  • ÂŁ24-ÂŁ123 (Av Price ÂŁ60)
  • 8x weekly, 4 operators (Easyjet, Jet2, Ryanair, TUI), Non-op Wed/Fri

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
