I agree that it was unfortunate that just after Monarch announced Grenoble Jet2 did the same. Pity Jet2 did not then go for Innsbruck or perhaps Lyon, maybe even Sofia as was once thought of as a ski destination. So maybe Monarch might consider other potential ski destinations for future years. They are up against a well known competitor in Jet2 who have a good name in the LBA catchment area but I think Monarch will settle down well into Yorkshire and be an operator that Jet2 cannot forget.

Monarch are a good airline and I know they will do well. I flown both jet2 and monarch and don't get me wrong jet2 are a wonderful airline but monarch do it that little bit more for me so if I have a choice of monarch or jet2 from lba even if monarch are slightly more expensive I will more than likely fly monarch.

I know where on the break of Summer 2013 (ha), and Winter 2013/14 has being released now looking ahead for Summer 2014 a key season i think for LBIA to prove its self. I also know that Summer 2014 will be in the pipe line for all airlines (Jet2, Mon, Thomson, Thomas Cook) for planning and what they want to offer.

Now i know here at LBIA were a little short on space for now - but with the terminal ready to be showed off and put to full potential could we see an expansion from Monarch for the season maybe a 3rd based aircraft here. Maybe not for a full week but share it with EMA for example to allow for expansion from both bases but share one resource. Looking at the route profile out of Manchester i've come up with a few flights they could offer from LBIA;

Alicante - Cosmos could offer package holidays to Bendidorm and it would allow to the airline to offer compeition to Jet2 and Ryanair. However with both Ryanair and Jet2 offering generous amount of flights would it be to much and is the market stable enough.
Dubrovnik - Nice little compeition for Jet2 and another airline for a route for LBIA. Brand awareness should be great around here and would be nice to see ZB operating compeition against Jet2 but is this market able to sustain this.
Fuerteventura - Jet2 seem to have avoided this route this season and i don't think they will next year. However Monarch could give this route a try, especially with IT Cosmos and Thomas cook holidays aboard. Remeber Ryanair have it to themselves - but thats ryanair attracting a total different market.
Gibraltar -Something not offered from any airline so could monarch maybe give this ago. However is there a market for it?
Gran Caneria - Seats from Thomas cook, and with own holiday brand cosmos aboard would this be a good route to start. I know Jet2 have increased presence down to LPA this season but compeition is always good. Plus we sustained Jet2 and TCX on the route, so surely the market could sustain both Jet2 and Monarch

Theres quite a few but these are the main ones i thought i'd put out there, ideas?

Also what about winter 2014/15. Do we think we will get a 2nd based aircraft or a 2nd shared aircraft?

I agree Concorde Lover. I think it will just be a matter of time before Monarch get themselves well known up here and gain a, hopefully, good reputation for quality on time flights so lets hope they don't have to retreat on any more routes as this would damage them quite badly in my view.

I'm not sure about your 'more expensive' comment as far as Monarch are concerned though as I have compared their HER flight pricing with Jet2 for several dates and they come up quite a bit cheaper every time! That isn't to say they are cheap (when compared with Easy from MAN for example) but probably more the case that Jet2 are expensive on that route as they haven't had any competition on the route before.

I was refering to flying from MAN with either monarch or jet2 in some cases monarch were slighlty dearer, of course until now we had monarch operate from Leeds. Should of mentioned that it was from Manchester do apologize

Today I was looking on Instagram (a photo app) and somebody took a picture at LBA and on stand's 8 air bridge, there was Monarch decal advertised across it, has anybody else noticed this? has it replaced BA's?

One half of stand 8's airbridge has BA decals on while the other has Monarch. The original BA decals were removed after about a week to be replaced with much clearer ones. It's a similar story on stand 7's airbridge which has KLM decals on one side and Leeds/Bradford airport ones on the other.

Monarch have a flight on sale from LBA on the 24th Feb to Luton for the Bradford v Swansea match.

Yep, It was confirmed yesterday that Monarch would be operating return flights from LBA to Luton on Sunday 24th February.

06:55-07:45 LBA-Luton
22:00-23:00 Luton-LBA

Return flights are from £175/return/pp which I'm sure some people will pay, others not!!

I heard the aircraft could be either the A321 or depending on fleet availability a B752.. Suppose we'll see in a month's time!

It's funny how they are running this flight, as there is no coach or transfer to get to Wembley..?! I would've thought the train will be the busiest and more popular route to get down for the final!

Flew on today's LBA to Munich on A320 G-OZBB, flight wasn't full, but seemed to have a healthy load of something around 100.

Luton on the west coast main line route, excellant train connections to London. If I cant fly from Leeds look at Luton as so easy to get to on public transport from Leeds
On the Thames link route you can go direct to four london stations, very regular and cheap service, you dont need an over priced travel agent to help you. Last time I asked a Travel agent for a train Leeds to Luton he suggested a change at Sheffield. I suggested he looked at Derby change, halved the price and trebled the options.
Certainly for wembley, Luton parkway to kings cross, under ground to wembley.

I can't help thinking though that it is just as easy to get the train from Bradford (or Leeds) straight to KX and then the Underground to Wembley. Unless the tickets include a coach transfer to Wembley, I can't honestly see much of an attraction of going by air to Luton, then a train to London.

Monarch got G-OOAR from Thomson and I think it is now G-OZBY.

G-OOAR was originally a First Choice A320 and spent a lot of time at BRS which I thought was highly appropriate.[/offtopic]

LUFC Jonno - I came in on this lunchtime's inbound from Munich, and it was Monarch A320 G-OZBY. Was there an aircraft switch for the return out of Leeds?

For those interested, the leeds inbound load was around 40.

When the aircraft arrived at Munich (from Manchester), I counted only about 15-20 getting off.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
