Yet more bad news. It looks like Monarch Airlines is about to drop all its UK based routes to Munich as from April 28th, That's including the Leeds flights.

I wonder if they plan on filling in the gaps of the Leeds based aircraft on Mondays, Wednesday mornings & Friday afternoon this summer. Otherwise they will end up having an aircraft sat around doing nowt at times?

I have booked a mini break in Munich in December with monarch ex LBA and haven't heard anything. Wonder if this is a summer scheduling change or if it will roll over to winter 13/14. On another note, how are current loads doing for their summer routes?

Loads are almost at capacity for most flights bar a few seats, with the exception of the Munich which rarely tops half its capacity.

Odd as it seems I'd say they need to increase the number of Munich flights to lift loads.
I'd have thought Munich to appeal massively to the business market. However the lousy flight times and lack of daily service make it pretty useless for business users sadly.

Jet2 seem to make money out of similar short haul flights operating half full services to Belfast, Amsterdam and Dusseldorf?

Been told by Monarch Airlines this morning that the Leeds/Bradford - Munich route is only been dropped at the end of April due to the busy summer season ahead. The good news is that it looks like the route will return for the winter 2013/14 season. And here's me thinking the Munich route was announced as been a year round service?

Monarch Hi Ross, we're coming into our summer schedule so these will be coming to a close, but they'll be up and running again during our winter season. thanks for your post
.

Loads to the holiday spots have been really encouraging with most flight's almost fully loaded. I wonder if we may get a few extra flights to the sun spots to replace the MUC flights.

It was definitely stated that Munich was an all year round route, but with timings not adequate for business users and no snow for skiing, I did wonder how it would do during the summer. Hopefully they will add capcity on busy routes or maybe add another destination ex LBA

It was originally a year round route from all bases, however all routes to MUC have been cut, at least for the summer season.

ALC would be perfect from LBA, I for one would definitely make use of the service

Alicante is a route thats already well served though by both Jet2 and Ryanair. Maybe Fuerteventura, I know Ryanair already fly there, but could be a good option. The problem could come though with the longer sector times and aircraft availabitlity

We go to Austria in summer, it's really frustrating that Jet2 dont go there except in Winter- Monarch to MUC was the obvious alternative. Looks like a trip across the pennines again!

Last year we did MAN-MUC with Lufthansa then train to Salzberg. Was looking at going back to Austria this year, maybe next.

KLM do Vienna via AMS but the connections coming back aren't all that great for the summer schedule. BA do it via LHR too, but I don't think the connections are great there either.

KLM LBA-AMS-MUC 'works' connection wise, but it's the transfer time in AMS vs crossing the pennines, and Lufthansa MAN-MUC is a lot cheaper than KLM LBA-AMS-MUC.

For Munich you also have the choice of cheap (easyjet) or widebody comfort (Singapore airlines) from across the pennines.

Dont know if its any good to you why go but there maybe no need to go over to Manchester?
As Inghams holidays do offer seat only packages on there weekly direct summer charter flights to Innsbruck operated by flybe every Saturday.

On some weekend dates in June and July The KLM option via Amsterdam to Munich from Leeds is'nt that bad as it comes out at around £228 while the British Airways option via Heathrow is £315.

Otherwise like you say if these options are no good its a trip over the dreaded M62 to Manchester. which to be fair can take just as long as some of the connection times at Heathrow and Amsterdam if you get stuck in the taffic jams.

£228 or £315 for a 1 stop to Munich not bad!?!!
Bloomin heck are you made of money?

Its extortionate when you consider you can get a rtn on easyjet from MAN for just under £90. Then you add on the £30 for train or petrol and thats still just over half the price for dates in June/July as that was your requirement.
Time for the journey to MAN cannot be an issue if you are willing to extend your journey by adding a stop.

Im sorry, but airport loyalty or not, I know what I would rather pay!

Our flights for 2 ppl in Dec with MON to MUC ex LBA was £170. Dummy booking on Easyjey ex MAN was same roughly price. Worryingly you can't book any MUC fights now ex LBA - even in December. Tweeted MON yesterday and they assured me that the winter MUC flights were going ahead as scheduled. However, me thinks that i might be getting an email soon stating its cancellation.

Apologies if I'm wrong, but isn't the Munich flight still operated by a Manchester based aircraft anyway? In which case Leeds wont see a replacement destination.

Yes up until this weekend and since the route commenced in December most Friday and Sunday Leeds/Bradford - Munich flights have been operated by w-legged Manchester based A320 and A321's.

But since the 1st based A320 aircraft arrived last month it too has operated all Monday and Wednesday flights plus a few weekend services.

If i remember correctly as of next week all flights up until March next year were planned to be operated by a Leeds/Bradford based aircraft.

Dont want make this into a full out MAN vs LBA thread but if easyjet is £170 to Munich from Manchester (As quoted by stewief1 earlier) yes i would still take the £228 KLM option from Leeds/Bradford

You can add another £70 in extra's flying from Manchester. £40 in fuel plus another £30 for parking car for week. Where as if i fly from Leeds its only going to cost me an extra £16 in taxi fares also get the benefit off free food and drink onboard KLM.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
