MAEL are currently working on the Sunwing Boeing 737-800WL, C-FYUH not in the Multiflight hangar but down in the Pan.

Until its recent sales I had a commercial transport business. We were allowed to do some maintenance is the open, but others must be done in a enclosed building, do similar rules apply in the aircraft business, assume the case.

Just found out that the tech Sunwing Boeing 737-800WL, C-FYUH sat in the Pan at LBA requires an engine change. The MAEL engineers will be doing it by borrowing the equipment from Jet2 to do so.

So the question is, dose anyone have an idea where the engine would come from and how they will get it here into LBA???

When Jet2 needed to fly an engine out in 2011 to replace the engine that caught fire over Ibiza, was not a massive transport plane used to move the replacement engine.
On a Motor vehicle an engine change must be done under cover, will the plane go into the hanger for the work.

Usually requires the work of a large cargo aircraft to bring an engine in (unless there is one in the UK where a truck can be used, which could be the case as Thomson may have one down at Luton as seen as the aircraft is on loan to them)

Ive seen the AN124/AN12 and B747F's convey engines from the TCX hangar, so, fingers crossed for LBA spotters that one is needed from outside the UK.

Its only a GE CFM-56 so it will go in the hold of a C130 Hercules. My old employer Air Contractors have such an aircraft sitting at Ema looking for work. I think they were involved when Jet 2 needed an engine in Ibiza some time ago.

It is more than likely the engine will arrive by low loader via Multiflight. The Sunwing aircraft Monarch Engineering will be working on has now been moved from the Pan to the Multiflight apron to await the work to commence.

Dont know if anyone else has noticed but there wasn't nenough room in the Jet2 multiflight hangar yesterday as they have one of there own 757-200 currenty sat inside it and a 737-300 qued outside waiting to go in next...
So the Sunwing 737-800 that MAEL are changing the engine on is now parked on the Multiflight apron but with a tent erected over the left engine so to cover and protect it from the elements so the work can be done ASAP.

Does any body know of any more expansion plans for this airline from this base?

Of course LBA sees increases next year - but would be nice to see a third aircraft for Summer 15 with new destinations (greece, paphos, Canaries).

Is that not the second sunwing engine that has needed to be changed this season, if so it must be a very expensive plane to maintain.

What's happened with monarch G-ZBAA as it looks like it has been replaced by G-MRJK on the Palma to Leeds route on flight radar 24 and G-ZBAA is operating the Faro to Luton route?

Yep Monarch's A320, G-MRJK has been Leeds based since it was swapped with G-ZBAA on Monday evening. I understand that G-ZBAA is based down in at London Luton to have some routine overnight maintenance work done and will eventually return to Leeds in due course....

Some positive murmurs by Monarch:

LEEDS Bradford Airport (LBA) is setting its sights on new destinations being added to its offering, as it builds on a successful year.

The airport, which is now one of the fastest growing regional airports in the UK, announced yesterday that it has broken its three million rolling year passenger figure.

Today, the managing director of Monarch, which launched its sixth UK base at LBA this spring, introducing 12 destinations and creating 200 local jobs, said he plans to expand services further.

Kevin George, said: “The 12 routes we opened up this year at LBA are all doing exceedingly well. We have carried over 120,000 passengers through Leeds Bradford Airport this summer. This is a fantastic achievement and testament to LBA.

"We really want to focus on offering the best service to important regional areas in the UK, of which Yorkshire is one of.

“Last winter we only operated a partial programme at LBA, but this winter we will be operating a more competitive one. We are looking to see if we can add some more destinations, as we are encouraged by the performance at LBA this year. We are hopeful we will be able to do this.

“We have recruited a good proportion of our cabin crew from the local area and create 200 new jobs in the region and we are now looking to build on this.”

Kevin George was on the Radio Leeds broadcast also - from what I could tell, he was there at the airport in person being interviewed live which was interesting in itself. The sentiments expressed were similar to the written piece above, the summer has gone well, they are focussed on leisure routes, they have some ideas in mind for next summer. He seemed to suggest further job opportunities being created for next summer.

What a fantasic result for Monarch, an outsanding airlne bringing more growth to our ever expanding airport here in Leeds.
With some research and a lot of " finger crossing".
My second thoughts are for those that seem certain that there is no profit to be made here , Thompson stand up and be counted !!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
