just got wind about monarch pulling out of LBA, does anyone know if this true?

Not heard that one before and from what I gather, they have had a very successful summer at Leeds so I think it's an unlikely rumour.

Flights are still bookable for the peak period - just done three dummy runs for DLM, TFS and PMI.

Seems that is a rumour someone who is adamant they know aviation has made up surely? Like a friend at uni, who has knows the Monarch engineering head at LBA, keeps saying "They are coming with three aircraft next summer" .. and everytime i say "until i see it in the press or from Monarch themselves, and they have released the timetable for next year" i keep getting "why would he lie". Hes in a huge company, its not a lie, but its a rumour which goes around. Please please put to bed this stupid "3rd aircraft" rumour.

Damaging rumour probably brought about by someone who has recently lost their job with them.

I'm quite sure Monarch will be at LBA for a few more years yet! Why would they go to trouble of setting up a base with two brand new 320's, countless new contracts and staff just to sack it off!!? Ha ha idiotic rumour considering the successful summer they've just had!

Their fleet currently stands at about 30 a/c. With an order for 60 new a/c being finalised in the coming weeks expansion will clearly be coming! You never know LBA may even get a few more 20's if they play there cards right!

They are currently looking for staff to be MAN/LBA duel based, so as it stands at the moment, seems they have every intention of running their summer 2014 base at LBA.

Duff rumour Id say.

This isn't the first rumour you have "overheard" looking at your previous posts. You might want to buy an ear wax removal kit for when you're in the Multiflight cafe. :D

Not been in the forum for a while and am not up to date with developments, but I wondered if MUC was still being operated from LBA?

Good to see you back, Galaxy. I hope you've been OK.

I'm not up to date with LBA matters so I'll leave your question to those who are.

Thanks Both,

Local Yokel, I'm fine, just been VERY busy work wise, hope you're well too.

Heather, do you know what days of the week it will likely be? I am actually looking for a flight from Munich to Leeds for late February, can't see anything on Skyscanner. Cheers.

Galaxy, the flights will operate on a Monday and Friday :)
INFACT! just looking on Monarchs website, it looks like they have cancelled a few rotations throughout 2014, these include all JAN flights and only 2 flights operating in Feb operating, trying to search there timetable for March flights nothing appears!

Monarch have released winter 2014/15 flights for sale today. Firstly the bad news it looks like they have dropped the Munich route while Grenoble drops to be operated only once weekly. The good news it looks like they have added a 3rd weekly Arrecife service.

Here’s the single based aircraft programme with 10 weekly flights that are now currently on sale.

Mondays
Leeds 08:30 – Arrecife 12:50 / Arrecife 14:00 – Leeds 18:10
Tuesdays
Leeds 08:30 – Tenerife 13:10 / Tenerife 14:10 – Leeds 18:35
Wednesdays
Leeds 08:00 – Larnaca 14:55 / Larnaca 15:55 – Leeds 19:15
Thursdays
Leeds 07:00 - Faro 10:00 / Faro 10:45 – Leeds 13:45
Leeds 14:45 – Arrecife 19:05 / Arrecife 20:05 – Leeds 00:15
Fridays
Leeds 08:30 – Tenerife 13:10 / Tenerife 14:10 – Leeds 18:35
Saturdays
Leeds 06:30 – Grenoble 09:30 / Grenoble 10:15 Leeds 11:15

It's a shame they have dropped Munich (again) but I think an A320 is to big for this route, I wonder if Jet2 will give it a go.

Grenoble has not done well for Jet2 this winter and looks like Monarch haven't had very good bookings so far either. It's good to see Larnaca is back, they have had some shocking loads on that flight over the last month but it must be making some money.

I'm surprised they don't try Gran Canaria or Fuerteventura, even just once weekly would give Cosmos holidays a better market share. It's a shame they couldn't make the city routes like Munich and Rome work, or even run Barcelona over the winter. Jet2's BCN flights are always full and with Ryanair having a love/hate relationship with BCN, I'd have thought Monarch could make it work a couple of time weekly over the winter? Big ski market in Andorra!

I think that the problem is that when times are hard, it is the ski holidays that are sacrificed in favour of a summer holiday. The last few winter seasons seem to have been tough ones.

On a brighter note, the Monarch Executive Chairman was at LBA to celebrate 1 year of operations at the airport. It was reported today by the LBA chairman that Monarch have carried 244,000 pax from LBA in their first year. From a standing start , these figures were described as 'remarkable'.

Nothing was said about further expansion or new routes, but that was no surprise as such information is never shared with the committee until it has been officially announced.

Todays MUC had just over a hundred on the outbound. Not the best but so far better than last years abysmal loads! The great news is that tomorrow's first Grenoble flight is fully booked at 174!! Only 2 on the return but that's to be expected at this stage.

Ap1995: Would suggest the only good thing about the article is the the boss man of Monarch has got free publicity in the Post, its what all business people crave. Even better if what is printed is just a hash of old news. He is making no new commitments to Leeds, obviously the only reason he gets print space is writing a glowing report about his operations and how this might involve Leeds.
About the only new fact was that he was focusing on Customer Service, I suppose after 45 years of having virtually the worst performance, for fleet timing, about time. I gave up in disgust 30 years ago flying with them as their performance so poor, last years figures just as bad. As with most things Monarch, think this is another target he will miss.

I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
