So much for the change in direction. :s_omg :whiteflag:

What do you mean? Surely Naples, Sharm el sheikh and Gibraltar is a change in direction is it not? Zante, Alicante and Rhodes are a firm favourite and they are severely underserved destinations from our region so I say far play to them.

Here are some examples:

During July of this year a total of 23,967 passengers flew to Rhodes from Manchester, in comparison only 3,420 flew to Rhodes from Leeds Bradford.

During the same month a total of 25,067 passengers flew to Zakynthos from Manchester whereas Leeds saw only 2,433 passengers on the same route. (6,631 flew from Newcastle which has a significantly smaller catchment area)

A total of 10,821 passengers flew to Naples from Manchester yet the route was unserved from Leeds Bradford. (Liverpool saw 5,391 fly to Naples)

I agree Gibraltar is an oddball but I think Monarch fly there from all their bases so this could be down to a particular deal with the airport there.

Alicante saw a total of 64,591 use Manchester airport during July compared with only 24,686 from Leeds Bradford.

good morning aviador
do you have the figures for AGP from LBA & MAN if the new routes from monarch are correct I find hard to understand why they are not including AGP from LBA,just my thoughts.

Manchester saw 64,268 passengers flying to Malaga whereas Leeds saw 29,700 and for comparison Liverpool saw 21,758 during the same month and Newcastle saw 21,095.

(All figures quoted are from the CAA.)

Basically, when given the chance LBA can punch it's weight and achieve better figures than some of it's competing airports which carry significantly more passengers annually overall.

Away at the moment, have I missed something, monarch runx out of money and operating licence on the 24th, has someone put money in to finance all this expansion, or just hopes for the future.

Certainly looks like things are moving at long last. Naples now showing 2 weekly. No sign of Gibraltar yet. Is Naples a brand new Leeds route or have Jet2 tried it before?

Wonderful news!

Looking forward to seeing a nice big positive official announcement form MON & LBA !

Naples is completely new from LBA so at last something new NEW not just something reinstated. :drinks:

Monarch have now officially launched S15 flights from LBA.

No GIB however.

ALC is 3 weekly according to ALC twitter reports

operating Tuesday, Thursday & Sunday

Quote 'Monarch Airlines launches new route from Alicante to Leeds Bradford with three weekly flights (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) from March 29, 2015. Schedules and frequencies during the Summer Season 2015: Alicante (ALC) - Leeds Bradford (LBA ) : ZB1237: 19:25 to 21:25 - 2 / 4 ZB1237: 21:10 to 23:10 - 7 Leeds Bradford (LBA) - Alicante (ALC) : ZB1236: 15:00 to 18:40 - 2 / 4 ZB1236: 16:45 to 20:25 - 7'

Dalaman is now at x3 Weekly with an extra Wednesday flight

Naples at x2 weekly (Monday & Friday)

Gran Canaria looks like a winter only route!

Faro is up to x5 weekly

Looks like we have lost Monarch routes to Bodrum, Arrecife (Lanzarote), Heraklion (Crete) whilst it also looks like Las Palmas (Gran Canaria) flights wont operate into the summer.

Noticed that Zakynthos (Zante) and Rhodes routes which have been bookable using Cosmos Holidays website are no longer on sale anymore also No sign of the new routes to Gibraltar or Sharm el sheikh either. Looks like we sticking to just the 2x based aircraft, which its better than non at all.

Great news that Monarch Airlines are sticking around LBA for next summer, Here's the official press release from Monarch Airlines own website...

Monarch Airlines announces summer ’15 programme and flight schedule from Leeds Bradford Airport – including new routes to Alicante and Naples

(Luton, UK –14 October 2014) – Monarch Airlines today announces the launch of its schedule for summer 2015 from Leeds Bradford Airport with flights to 10 sun and city destinations across Europe.

The summer 2015 schedule from Leeds Bradford Airport will offer two new routes during the summer months to Alicante and Naples, in addition to eight routes continued from this summer, making a total of 28 flights per week. Flights to the increasingly popular destinations of Dalaman and Faro will see a rise in frequencies and holiday makers will enjoy more convenient flight times to Barcelona, Faro and Mahon, ideal for a weekend away. Other routes will also benefit from more sociable flight times enabling Yorkshire customers to choose a weekend break or plan a summer holiday to the Monarch destination of their choice. Monarch flights and holidays are all bookable at http://www.monarch.co.uk

Andrew Swaffield, Chief Executive of The Monarch Group said: “The airline has been undergoing a strategic review of all routes and bases over the past few months and as a result changes have been made to scheduled flights for summer 2015 across the network. We have been listening to our customers and have put a lot of thought into refining our schedule for summer 2015 from Leeds Bradford Airport. We believe that the improvements to our flying programme from our most northern base will appeal to our loyal travellers, as well as attracting new customers to Monarch to experience the warmth of service and personal touch that we are bringing back to the European airline industry.”

John Parkin, Chief Executive of Leeds Bradford Airport said: “We welcome the introduction of two new summer destinations by Monarch providing increased flight choice for travellers across the Leeds City region and Yorkshire. With improved flight timings and the excellent customer service which Monarch offers, passengers can be assured of a warm welcome next summer when they fly from their local airport – Leeds Bradford.”

In July, Monarch Airlines announced that Boeing had been chosen as the preferred bidder for its anticipated fleet renewal project. The airline is currently working towards agreeing terms which will see 30 new Boeing 737 MAX8 aircraft joining the Monarch fleet from April 2018, with options to add up to an additional 15 to the order.

Snowman, it was confirmed some time ago that Monarch will not be carrying charter passengers on their flights, so Cosmos, Thomas Cook etc will all have to switch to Jet2 from LBA if they are to continue operating a particular destination. It is a shame we have lost some routes, but fantastic news that Monarch are staying. Some said, not too long ago, that Monarch was gone. For me, it was never clear cut and the fact nothing was announced suggested that there was no certainty that Monarch were to leave LBA. As a low cost airline, they can now provide LBA with competition with Ryanair and some of the leakage on the most popular routes can be stopped. It represents a new start for the airline and if LBA continues as a success, there is obviously scope for limited growth in future years. I have no doubt at all that LBA and Tony Hallwood have had a lot of work to do with regard to this, and once again, the outcome is positive, so well done to them and to LBA for retaining what many believed could not be retained.

hi white-heather
thanks for above post,
re cosmos holidays I always thought they were part of the same group along with avro.

I seem to remember Britannia operated a handful of flights from Leeds to Naples in the late seventies/early eighties. I think Lisbon and Rome featured around the same time. To digress a little, Britannia flew to Pula from Leeds in the summer of 1983 using a 737 sub-chartered from Transavia.

By the way it is splendid news that Monarch is staying with us. I really would have been seriously fed up to see the company go.

I seem to remember charter flights been operated to Naples about 8-10 years ago from Leeds/Bradford using one of the based bmi regional Embraer 145's. At about the same time they also operated a charter service to Verona as well...

I agree with you "SNOWMAN1" As I understand Monarch airlines will still be carrying Cosmos Holidays and Avro punters from Leeds/Bradford next summer 2015.

I'm a bit surprised to see some routes dropped for S15 and some of the rumoured new routes not showing on the programme that has been released from LBA. For example HER was there a day or so ago but it has now disappeared. Might this mean that there are still flights to be released and that we might get a third aircraft after all?

Or am I engaging in a flight (apologies for the intended pun) of fancy? Any inside info out there please?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
