If you read the link to the "Wharfedale Observer" report, posted by LBAYorkie in post 2145, you will see that they report that Dublin flights are retained and available to book for summer 21. These appear to be the only Ryanair flights available from LBA for S21 onwards.

That's the flight to Dublin that I tested ..nothing comes up for 2021, yet if you want to fly to Dublin from, say, MAN it does. Hopefully. It may be a later addition if they have the planes/capacity. The cynical part of me thinks covid is an additional excuse for FR. You may remember in previous posts I quoted info from from FR that they were intendending to pull from loss making airports (O'Leary is a charmer)and named LBA as one of those. I've not checked but it would be interesting to see if those airports he quoted are the ones that have no 2021 flights. As a shareholder I pour through all their communication and only bought shares when they came to LBA so I"ll be gutted if ithey are pulling out by stealth. As a consumer FR is also good as it provided the necessary competition for Jet 2 on various routes.

According to last sentence in this report Ryanair have cancelled all flights from Leeds for whole of summer season

Can someone explain what part of the LBA Ryanair operation would possibly be the loss making part of it if that is the reason they have pulled all the flights? i ask this because every Ryanair flight I have travelled on has been more or less full. could it be to do with landing fees, weather related issues or operational issues, crew costs or something else? They has to be a reason every other airport keeps its flights but we don't? totally baffled if they have pulled out of leeds altogether

I guess Ryanair must think the passengers can get easily to Manchester and East Midlands which are both good sized bases.

Your CEO was upbeat about getting to 7m pax by 2030 so there must be a plan B if Ryanair do quit ?

Maybe he is upbeat because he knows that its the current terminal that's letting LBA down? And that once we get a new terminal airlines will show big interest? Plan B might be the orange crew!

As I've said a couple of times already. LBA under its current constraints cannot cope with the added measure of social distancing. It doesn't appear Ryanair are upping sticks in the usual fanfare you'd expect so I'm certain this is a temporary measure.

Every airport would struggle with social distancing, some more than LBA from what ive seen?

The airport is perhaps taking a value judgement and has declined to offer Ryanair the terms that it was demanding from every airport to resume services. If the airport's capacity is limited by social distancing, it's logical to try to retain space for those airlines who account for your income in priority order. The fact that Ryanair has pulled suggests that LBA has said "no" to the terms demanded, and that should tell you something about where the income from Ryanair ranks alongside others for LBA.

I have to say, looking back, I did wonder if Ryanair might be off when they flew their based aircraft out of LBA at lockdown . As they were based here it seemed an odd thing to do. There were sufficient stands to accommodate them but they went almost immediately. I refuse to believe they lost money here though.

They axed Glasgow last year so looks like we are in good company. I don't think it's a fees issue. They are still flying from airports owned by AMP. I would expect AMP to have a common approach to fees.

No doubt it will all come out in the wash. It is most unlike Ryanair or MOL to keep quiet on such things. If there is a bust up he usually makes a big thing of leaving. All those routes gone though. Sad times all round.

I'm not sure what the reasons are but I'm really sad. I flew with them during the first week that FR started at LBA and thought they were a great addition to our offering. Every flight I've been on has been packed but my understanding is it's not just about having a full plane. It's also about how easy it is to do this and the price/yield. I think there must be a number of reasons but I dont think its about proximity to MAN, if so, Liverpool would have lost FR too.

I suppose it’s the perfect storm.

covid-19
Max issues
MAN, LPL, EMA bases close by

The one thing I cannot understand is why pull DUB too. The route has been operational since 1996 and probably had an average occupancy of 99.9%. It could easily be done using a DUB based a/c as it was for the first 14 years of operations.

What I find incomprehensible, hypothetically if Stobart group don’t survive this then LBA won’t have a single operation to the island of Ireland!!

:wtf:

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
