Does anyone know why today about 13.20 a ryanair aircraft (I arent sure which flight it was but i presuming it was the delayed flight to Dusseldorf Weeze) taxied out and lined up on Runway 32 and then returned back to stand?

It was originally compensating for a a/c with a technical problem, it then went tech itself. It than had a delay in the region of four hours and was fixed by Jet2 engineering.

Flew to Krakow today with Ryanair from LBA, very efficient trip, and good LBA experience. I arrived at LBA at 7.45, and was through security and in the departure lounge by 7.55. After a brief bit of entertainment from the nutty Eastern European guy working in the food court downstairs, I strolled around a near empty departure area marvelling on the magnificent sunrise coming from behind Cookridge. We boarded the plane at 8.45, it was about half-full and pushed back at 9.15. We were in the air well before the published departure time of 9.30, all in all a very positive experience, and for £38 return (all in) one that I'm not knocking.

If your on about Food village. I worked with the guy i think your on about, likes to chat to everyone that comes to his till! Funny guy aswell behind the front line of customer service.

He tired to sell me a banana the other day, he said if I don't eat it I could play fight with it as it looks like a gun and if I didnt do that I could insert it into someone. Very funny guy!

He said to me today, bananas from Bolton Abbey, to which I said no thanks. He then said oranges from Barnsley, if you eat it make you feel cold! I smiled and made sure he wasn't near the cutlery. :s_crazy

I have read several posts about him on Twitter also, he seems to have a cult following!

Well today's return journey to Leeds from Krakow was rather more eventful than the flight out there. I got to Krakow Airport in good time, just got through security and passport control to receive a text from my mate who works at LBA '60 mph winds here, your plane has just been put back in the blocks'. Oh well I thought, I'll explore.....that lasted about 5 minutes, honestly LBA does not deserve to so often be called a 'shed' on Twitter in comparison to other airports such as Krakow, which truly is a shed. I found two shops and hard uncomfortable seating, with not even a view of the runway. The place was busy bordering on packed, and I just happened to find a spare hard pew to park myself. No word of a lie, if a nation-less Tom Hanks had found himself stranded at Krakow, that film 'The Terminal' would have lasted about 25 minutes.

There was no official announcement made until 10am CET, which was over an hour after I had received my text. Eventually my mate texted me again to say the aircraft was on its way. With nothing else to do, I spent the next two hours eating megabytes on my O2 roaming, many of which were spent watching the progress of the incoming FR2332.

Eventually the call was made to begin to queue, this is when I noticed the masses of hand luggage, this plane was going to be full, and much of the hand luggage was definitely not Ryanair regulation sized. I guess Krakow like Prague, is another airport where the handling agents don't really care about stuff like that, I'm sure O'Dreary would be crying in his Guinness if he knew.

Something that bugged me on the flight out, and that also bugged me on the flight back was the fact that some passengers had not switched off their mobile phones, despite announcements being made in both English and Polish. I heard two text messages while airborne going (both around the same time about 10 minutes before landing), and I heard one just after take-off this time, and another over Headingley. What is wrong with these idiots?

The landing at Leeds was HEAVY and this wasn't due to cross-winds, it was a typical Ryanair slam dunk, the three heaviest landings that I have ever had (out of around 200 flights) have all been Ryanscare, twice at LBA and once at Dublin, when the pilots decided to land in a Thunder Storm that was over the airport at the time, it was the worst of the three by a long way. The Poles don't seem to be very good at staying in their seats on landing, in fact some had unbuckled immediately and began to rise while the plane was still speeding down the runway! The cabin assistant absolutely shrieked down the mic at them, and then it happened again! Unbelievable.

We parked at stand 12 and the surprise of the day was that there were three service buses to meet us, along with a small army of Servisair staff. 'Blimey' I quipped to a tall blonde lass 'I can't believe Ryanair have forked out for buses' her stoney expression and lack of response made the grouch sat next to me on the flight look positively effervescent. We were bussed to the arrivals door at stand 5, in some airports they have escalators, at LBA we have a statue, so once again the bottle neck of people with oversized hand luggage clattered and fell up the stairs together.

I was supposed to be back for a meeting at 1pm, but obviously I didn't make it, and I can understand people getting annoyed at the weather impacts at LBA, for me this was only my second major LBA related weather delay.

All in all, my Ryanair latest experience was mixed, the flight out was the very definition of efficiency, and the return journey wasn't. It wasn't Ryanair's fault that the plane was delayed, but Krakow is a rubbish airport to be stuck in. I wasn't overly impressed with the protocol of many of my fellow passengers, but this in my previous experience seems to be typical for Eastern Europe. However, to say that I only paid £38 for the return flight (all in), I can't really complain, and have attempted to tell it like it is.

I really enjoyed reading that Galaxy. I believe one of our other forum regulars might have been on the delayed outbound flight.

At least there are only four or five of these nasty winter storms each winter so you've got to be unlucky to cop for one. It could have been worse, snow!

I try not to fly O'Leary air except and have been successful except for three occasions when there was no alternative. As for the 38 quid flight and bumpy landings etc etc (I've experienced them too) you know what MOL would say. Tough sh.., we got you there and back for nothing didn't we?

Aviador I had mentally prepared myself for a Donny divert in case the winds were still an issue, but it was really calm and sunny at LBA. Do you know why we had buses to the arrivals at stand 5? Is this due to the building work? I can't imagine Ryanair wanting to fork out for them.

It's standard practice if you're picked up by the buses you will normally be dropped off in the vicinity of stand 5 near the escalator to the first floor.

Galaxy, sorry to disagree again.

I do not agree with your comments about Ryanair landings, do you imagine that the pilots are told how to land by the company, rubbish, or inexperience on your part. I would say quite the opposite. They have some brilliant pilots and I am not a big fan.
I do agree with you about the airport having been through Balice about 300 times, I hate the place with a vengeance apart from the buses. The trouble is, it’s operated by several different companies. The huge posh building next door houses all the managers and a tiny part for domestic flights. All the best jobs go to incompetent relatives as nepotism is rife in Poland. They advertised for a waiter a few months ago for the exec restaurant. The candidate had to be fluent in 3 or 4 languages, plus a Masters degree in economics and another subject.
The cramped International terminal was not considered important so they built the big multi story car park instead. They consider that low cost flights are for peasants so they closed off the open area to create chicken runs for the locos. Until recently, the existence of charter flights were not even shown on the website.
I would be able to use the business lounge but you cannot reach it if you fly loco.
I have flown through hundreds of airports and Balice is one of the worst.

Commenting on passengers standing immediately after landing. Many are extended Romanian gypsy families. They neither speak Polish or English but manage to find their way down to Kirkstall Road to collect their benefits. You should hear some of the comments from the flight crew.

I don't think we can say that the delay was down to LBA weather this time as the gales were widespread in the North and Scotland, with 65mph gusts around Leeds, and the wind direction wasn't even across the runway early this morning. It was coming from slightly to the SW of the runway direction- over Yeadon tarn. The wind was relentless though and given that it was forecast to abate very quickly this morning (which it had done by 9am) they possibly took the decision to delay take off until things improved. I would imagine there were similar issues at other airports.

Congratulations on getting a bus back to the terminal Galaxy. You are indeed one of the lucky ones. Stand 12 is, from what I have been told, a 'sometimes walking/sometimes buses' stand for Ryanair. Stand 13 and beyond are generally buses stands (where available). You probably got the bus to make up for the flight delay.

Wawkrk, please see the PM I have sent you today regarding your recent experience when flying in from KRK in weather similar to this mornings.

Wawkrk, It is neither rubbish nor inexperience it is my own personal observation through my experiences. I have landed on beaches, ridiculously short runways, and even the notorious Sydney Kingsford, I have experienced plenty of bumpy landings, and several hard ones, but the three worst have all been Ryanair.

But RE KRK, I'm glad we can agree on something.

Heather, I merely reported the weather as I did through what I had been told, it was perfectly lovely upon arrival in Leeds, in fact from Nottingham onwards really.

Indeed, any inbound aircraft parked from stand 12 onwards requires buses to carry passengers to the arrivals which is next to stand 5. It is a requirement for the airport to provide buses on remote stands so not really a case of Ryanair forking out for them.

As for the cabin bags, Krakow is much like Prague - constant issues with nationals not wanting to pay a tenner or whatever to check a bag in. If anyone is ever in the airport when Ryanair Krakow/Riga/Gdansk flight are boarding, go watch. Quite possibly the best twenty minutes of free entertainment watching all the hand baggage checks and arguments!
