Perfect sense lbaspotter. Thanks for that.

I'd be interested to know how Ryan is looking after the passengers these days and compare them with Jet2 who always seem to do a good job on that front, but we don't seem to have too many of their fliers on this forum which is a shame.

I have noted the changes to Ryanair's summer schedule from LBA 2014. But still see that Riga and Kaunus are still on there destination list but no flights available does anyone know if they are cancelled or still to be released?

Good news as all is not lost regarding Ryanair this summer. As they have this morning released for sale the Leeds/Bradford - Gerona (Barcelona) 3x weekly service. Flights will operate on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturdays and has been done by dropping the Gerona (Barcelona) - Doncaster-Sheffield route.

Timetable as follows.
Tuesday
FR1833 = LBA 18:30 – GRO 21:50 / FR1832 = GRO 16:45 – LBA 18:05
Thursday
FR1833 = LBA 13:30 – GRO 16:50 / FR1832 = GRO 11:45 – LBA 13:05
Saturday
FR1833 = LBA 18:30 – GRO 21:50 / FR1832 = GRO 16:45 – LBA 18:05

As also mentioned Kanuas has reappeared on the website and looks to be replacement for Vilnius but it's not bookable along with Riga.

If anyone is wondering. Well this is how we stand with the Ryanair summer 2014 flight programme from Leeds/Bradford. Looks like only a few more gaps to be filled in the programme.

Think its safe to say where the Leeds/Bradford - Barcelona El-prat Ryanair flights have gone too. As they have just announced 4 new routes from Manchester to Barcelona, Bologna, Fuerteventura & Gran Canaria whilst also increasing capacity on 5 existing routes to Dublin, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Malaga & Tenerife.

Yet when I mentioned it the other day you said it couldn't be due to the difference in frequency?

Well like I said before the scheduled flight timings are totally different as to the recently axed LBA-BCN service as the flights have normally been operated by BCN based aircraft while it looks as though the new MAN-BCN route seems to be operated by MAN Based aircraft.

PS. If it makes you feel any better to be totally honest with you user001 I'm not really that fussed about Ryanair dropping the LBA-BCN route seen we still have Monarch 4x weekly and Jet2 5x weekly operating the route and now they have also just replaced it with the GRO which is not a current served destination from LBA...

Why are you getting arsey lbaspotter?

I merely questioned why, that when I mentioned it, you brushed it aside, yet when its confirmed, you say pretty much what I said just with different wording but still brush aside my post? Im just confused how I can be wrong but you right when we are saying near as damn the same thing?

Sorry that seems so offensive to you! :nea:

Just for interest my parents went out on todays Tenerife FR flight and evidently only about 80 pax on board, maybe backs up why the likes of Jet2 reduce their flights and/or available seats through January

I understand there is to be announcement soon from Leeds/Bradford Airport about Ryanair as they have just posted something on there Facebook page. So watch this space or of course the LBIA website!

Well this Ryanair announcement which I was told about last week on the airports Facebook page still seem's not to have happened so far yet but it's interesting that the following article has appeared in this evenings Yorkshire Evening Post with comments made by Tony Hallwood.

Ryanair launches new flights from Leeds to Barcelona
Published 11:01 on the 22 January 2014

A new flight route will open up a direct gateway from Leeds to the Costa Brava region in Spain from April this year.

Ryanair has announced a new three-times-a-week service to Girona airport in Barcelona from Leeds Bradford Airport.

From April 1, flights will leave the city’s airport on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays and will operate through the summer until October 25.

From Girona airport, sunseekers and travellers can visit popular coastal holiday resorts on the Costa Brava as well as cross over the border into France’s Languedoc-Roussillon region.

The Catalan capital of Barcelona is also about an hour away by car or train from Girona airport.

Tony Hallwood Leeds Bradford Airport’s aviation development and marketing director said: “We welcome the introduction of Ryanair’s ninth destination in Spain and expect that it will be a popular route for our Yorkshire holidaymakers.

“We also look forward to welcoming Spanish visitors to Leeds over summer.”

Almost thought it was O'Leary for a moment. An optical allusion just like the one I'm hearing announcing "new" flights to a reintroduced destination at the loss of flights to the city itself. I do wish Tony would savour these moments for our Emirates or Qatar announcement.

Ah yes, but from the airport's prospective it is still a new route. We haven't lost Reus or El Prat as these are still to be served by Jet2/Monarch. I think off memory this will be the first time we have had all 3 Barcelona routes operating at the same time (unless someone knows better).

Do not think we are going to get much more good news though when we need to make the most of a so called new route and the loss of several others as expansion.

The positive side to this is that the majority of Ryanairs routes from LBA are performing , and with the recent news they are continuing to invest at the airport.

No airline gets it 100% right when they set up bases , large or small.

I think they have done very well so far and anticipate further growth in time.

From business side of the coin , lets all remember that if / when larger overseas carriers are approached from airports marketing teams , amongst other information about the airport they will also look at how other airlines are performing , the last thing they want to see is a list of non-profitable routes.

I hope you are right it just seems that Lbia development has stalled since they started operating to and from Manchester again..

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
