A short video I shot last Monday while passing through. It's not great...

It's a nice video, thanks for posting it. If you are in a position to it may be worth investing in a tripod, even a cheap one would really help with camera shake :)

Luckily my camera does sort of have image stabilisation built in, so it could have turned out a lot worse. But it's just a short video so I haven't been relying too much on it to get lots of views - unlike the one I filmed last month! And I'm still trying to get people to watch it...

I was thinking about doing a crosswind landings video, and maybe also a 'landing timelapse' video like one was done at Heathrow a while back, and it's got over a million views. The only problem is I'll probably have to film over a few days as we all know BHX can be pretty quiet at times.

If you want lots of views for your videos then it's probably best to aim for something large or something unusual, Ryanair's, Flybe's, Monarch's etc are ten a penny at most UK airports. Good quality footage of PIA or Emirates 773's will be popular, Air India 787's are only used at two UK airports so should generate interest and the China Southern A330's could be a great capture. If you keep an eye on movements then aircraft in special liveries are usually popular, Aer Lingus, KLM, Lufthansa, Air France and SAS all have retro liveries then there is the likes of KLM and Air France in the Skyteam livery, you also have Tuifly on Saturday mornings through the summer that have some great paintjobs. Special ad hoc cargo movements could also be popular, particularly the AN12's with the trails of smoke they leave behind. You could also aim for some assistance from weather, on a damp day wake vortex's can look impressive and if you can get there after a heavy rain shower then spray makes for a good effect.

Just a couple of ideas that may or may not work.

Check out the two below from flugsnug for some ideas, the EK wake vortex clip has over 700k views.

You can buy a small handheld tripod which are pretty effective.

One like this will wrap nicely around fencing.

Another fantastic clip from flugsnug of an EK 77W and an RAF C-17 with close up's of the landings. His/her camerawork truly is exceptional.

Best viewed in full screen.

Well, I have managed to acquire a tripod which should make it easier to film in the future, and indeed edit and not have to use those stabilisation effects so much.

Well, here it is:

Admittedly the main problem is the heat haze, and I'm not sure that's even a draw for aviation videos. I think I picked the wrong spot too, as it did cause problems when it came to the take offs (I had to take the camera off the tripod to get the plane in view). I think it would be better on a cooler day, or somewhere with a better view but generally I think it's turned out OK.

I like it, thanks for posting.

It's personnel choice but I don't mind the heat haze so much, I think the biggest issue is the barbed wire fence across the shot which sometimes seems to take the aircraft out of focus. If you could find slightly higher ground and get the camera above the line of the fence it would be great, I've seen people filming from that large mound I don't know if you tried it. The picture is definitely much steadier and the panning for the take offs was great :good:

Yeah I've seen the large mound. I've filmed from there before, indeed the video on my channel from 2005 was filmed from there. I think the ground was on fire today, literally, so I couldn't film there if I wanted to. But yeah, I agree higher ground would be ideal.

I've customized the 'thumbnails' for two of my videos in the hope that they may attract more views:

This is the full video:

I assume the use of a telephoto lens would compress the visual perspective somewhat but even allowing for that it still looks very scary, it makes you wonder what could have been if this had happened in darkness or low visibility.

This from the 767 pilot.

.....He told The Siberian Times: ‘Before getting close to the runway we heard the air traffic controller's command allowing Argentinians to cross the runway after we had landed.

‘The Argentinians repeated the comment which meant that they heard and accepted it.

‘But then suddenly - and without a clear reason - the Argentinians got onto the runway just as our altitude was going below 100 metres.’

At this point, ‘the air traffic controller clearly got confused. He went silent,’ Kuzmin said.

‘We had nothing else to do than go on a second round. We have worked on this situation many times during training.’

Kuzmin said the air traffic controller ‘apologised’ to the Russian, saying the incident had been a 'failure'.

Some more spectacular camerawork courtesy of flugsnug. I do love water spray take offs.

Some great footage of the 777 in the wet with the last clip showing dust from the construction site being whipped up.

Great video thanks for posting.

My first long haul flight was on an A330 so I do have a bit of a soft spot, sadly we don't see enough of them at BHX these days.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
