Really nowadays people don`t want to fly overnight to european airports
arriving at god awful times, now being Manchester based right under the 23
approach it is non stop until 03.30 with most days being 20 to 30 an hour and it can get quite
noisey. As Mackerdown has said the only late departures are Sun Express , Pegasus and some Ryanair with the odd Turkish
I dont suppose it's just down to when people want to fly, it's also down to scheduling and when flights can be fit in.

I think the plan at MAN is to ban or dramatically cut departures after 23.00 in next 4 years

I have over recent months come to wizz through Airport Action on YouTube. Great coverage but Kevin, I think, can never find the right angle to capture all the action. He did capture five in a queue waiting to depart shortly after the daily 380 today and Maersk freighter waiting to cross the runway.

But what never fully gets from the end of either runway or that NCP car park is the terminal aprons.

I know we have discussed this before, but I think BHX is still missing the trick with the old terminal and the creation of a fantastic visitors centre...for those old enough...like the good old days.

Museum, spotters corner, cafe, shop etc. admission charge and car park charge could help fund and from that angle everything is on display from the terminals to the freighters to Tom and Tom and Becks flying in or the footie teams.

Come on BHX, be brave and go for it. I for one will make the 160 mile trek for that.

Sorry for going over old ground.

Ian I agree.
I feel for the bloke he only has 2 options.R15 Sheldon and npc car park.

He got booted off the mound and the car park where the visitors area are.

I am really surprised the airport staff hasn’t said anything regarding airport action.I thought they would let him stream from the old terminal which would be ideal.

The 'mound' is private land (airport owned) so hardly surprising. But he can stand anywhere around that on the public footpaths and still have a great view.

And, as previously, once the link road to J5a opens, the footpath running along the western side is actually higher than the mound and offers a great view also (he's been filming from there a lot, almost directly under the approach).

I agree about a viewing gallery. But i suspect bringing the old terminal in to use will be quite an expensive undertaking, and its not going to bring a huge amount in. It would almost be better, i think, if Kevin (or someone) could do a deal with the airport to act as their youtube flight channel, and which would give much greater access. Whether the airport would be interested in that i dont know (i doubt it), but that could be a money spinner quite quickly!

More night flights to Birmingham Airport would have 'significant' impact on residents

Plans to increase the number of night-time flights T Birmingham Airport will have a "significant" negative impact on Kenilworth residents, the town council has said.

Kenilworth Town Council has submitted an objection to the latest application from BHX which could allow for more arrivals and departures between 11.30pm and 6am.

The current arrangement allows for no more than 4,000 flights at night a year.

This is based on an annual restriction of five per cent of the total air traffic movements to take place at night, which the airport wants to increase to around 7.3 per cent.

But with flights heading over Kenilworth to reach Birmingham, the town council has called on BHX to "commit to its social responsibility" and reduce the impact on neighbours.

"Aircraft are significant sources of CO2, pollutants, and noise, with late-night arrivals and departures impacting on our community in Kenilworth," the objection said.

"Incoming and outgoing flights come low over Kenilworth making a significant noise impact on residents.

"This is of particular concern in summer, when there is an increase in aircraft movements, and windows are more likely to be open."

BHX estimates the airport contributed around £1.2 billion in gross value added (GVA) to Solihull in 2021, and around £2.1 billion within the West Midlands Combined Authority area.

BHX stresses if a change is not made to the five per cent cap by 2027 the airport's economic contribution to Solihull could be lowered by around £115 million in GVA, and a reduction of £225 million in GVA for the West Midlands region.

But the council has said there is no evidence continuing to limit night flights would impact jobs in the region, as the application suggests.

The objection continued: "Rather than expanding night flights, Birmingham Airport should prioritise noise mitigation, reduce total night-time air traffic movements, and in conjunction with airlines develop a comprehensive plan for future noise reduction.

"We urge the airport to commit to its social responsibility, balancing economic interests with the health and quality of life of those living nearby and continue with the current night flying restrictions."

BHX says the current agreement came into force in 2009 with an aim to "tighten the limits" on night time flying and reduce the figure to four per cent of the total number of flights annually.

In documents submitted to Solihull Metropolitan Council's airport consultants, McLoughlin Planning, write: "The airport handles 40 per cent more passengers.

"This has been in part down to the rise of low-cost carriers using the airport and changes in their operating patterns.

"Those changes see a much more intensive use of the aircraft over a longer operating day, meaning earlier starts and later finishes.

"Birmingham Airport Limited cannot keep pace with the changing circumstances at the airport in terms of operations and the types of aircraft and their associated movements, as part of the airport's ongoing growth forecasts."

😬🙄🫣

Apparently a suspicious car outside Diamond House. Probably taxed/MOT'd and insured!

On a serious note flights are coming in with passengers being held on board. I have been watching the EK040 and they are only now showing signs of the cargo being loaded on board. Various Ryanair and Jet2 flights have landed and are on stand but from what I can gather no-one is being let off the flights. Hearing emergency vehicles (their sirens anyway) every so often so they obviously do have an issue with the vehicle.

Lets hope it is just an evacuation as a precaution and nothing more sinister.

No-one winds on a day like today: holidays, business trips and the general business of the airport disrupted.

But early reports suggest the evacuation and the manner with which the incident occurred, was handled calmly and with professionalism by Birmingham Airport and the mainline emergency services.

Congratulations to them.

Unfortunately, this incident has given both national and local media an excuse to go into overdrive. Headline stories about " passengers stranded on runways" ???. All of which doesn't help the airport for the future.
The whole incident lasted about 1 hour 45 minutes as far as i can see.
One flight was cancelled, according to the BBC.
It would appear that it was dealt with efficiently and praise must go to the various authorities concerned.

I hope those wingers do not use the airport or any airport ever again. People need to grow up. They have phones to whine on twitter but not the brains to read the news. It is not an airlines job to do that for them. It is airlines job to adhere to the instructions of the police via ATC.

How the general public react to emergency situations generally dictates how it affects them. And, they are easily motivated by idiots on social media. I have little faith in that changing.

But as a group with special interest in Birmingham Airport I hope we can gain some confidence in how the airport coped today.

It was Bhx today, tomorrow it could be another airport, and the incident could be potentially catastrophic - not an airport, but remember Manchest Arena?

I hope when the next incident occurs, they cope well - but I will sleep safe in the knowledge that for me Birmingham has shown it can cope...

Headline stories about " passengers stranded on runways" ???.

why do the media always uses phrases like this? Do people have images of passengers dodging landing aircraft, wandering around the airfield, across the taxiways and apron while waiting for the airport to re-open!! 🙄 - now that would be a real security concern!! :ROFLMAO: BBC Midlands Today, you should know much better!! :rage:

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.

Do you still live in the area?
