bhxmyplan.jpg

This is how think the Master plan for BHX should be developed. Making use of the old Terminal for Domestic flights and developing the existing Terminals for International and Long haul flights.

Please excuse the poor MSPaint skills

Oooooh I like that!

The only downside I could see is the railway line would have to be dropped into a tunnel which could prove very costly but if the money could be found it sure would open up much more space. I guess the International Station could also be moved and integrated into the terminal building, maybe underneath like AMS?

Welcome to the forum Dazjs :hatsoff:

Hi there ray and all , excellent idea about usage of Elmdon terminal, that was one of my original ideas that I thought of when kehoe and company decided a proposal for another runway and terminal by the m42, which I think would be too far away from current ideal layout, using old terminal at Elmdon for all domestic and long haul at existing terminal would be ideal. Also what the airport failed to do was when the opportunity arrived to purchase Coventry airport and turn it into a cargo airport, this idea was ignored by current management as bad idea, then came up with M42 as other option. So get the Elmdon idea back to drawing board and let's start making a difference to the airports growth and local area and economy and jobs, because that's what the West Midlands wants is growth and jobs to prosper with investment from overseas.... And without going off things to do with BHX, it also needs to get rid of that "silly" West midlands tag, this means nothing to overseas investors. Sorry but Greater Birmingham for me 100% and places like BHX need to get behind this idea. West Midlands is meaningless.

Shall we Invest in London, Greater Manchester or West Midlands ????? Mmmmmmmmmmm

I can even live with "Greater Birmingham and Coventry" but West Midlands. Noooooooooooooooo

[offtopic]I still get numerous letters, some from official bodies, addressed to Bristol, Avon. The county of Avon only existed between 1974 and 1996.[/offtopic]

I agree about the 'West Midlands' tag, to me it brings back memories of Birmingham in the 80's with those horrible concrete underpasses. Of course it's a far cry from the modern City Centre we know today although there seems to be a generation of people who still hold those same outdated prejudices.

Was the purchase of CVT ever a genuine idea, I can't remember. I'd imagine it would have taken alot of money to get it up to standard and even so runway length would limit the weight of cargo aircraft. There was also the fact that Warwick District Council never seemed to be sympathetic towards the airport and their refusal of the permanent terminal building seemed to be the final nail in the coffin for Thomson and Wizz.

I still have a feeling we'll eventually see a cargo centre of some description on the Elmdon. I don't think it will be anything major as the extensive facilities already available up at EMA are far too close but as the route network grows so will belly freight. We also have a fairly decent amount of ad hoc services, mainly it seems for the automotive sector.

Airport jobs firm relocates to Birmingham
Birmingham Airport growth triggers move.

Airport Placements, the airport job specialists, is moving its headquarters to Birmingham Airport, to be closer to its customers at its biggest UK operation. The move, which took place earlier this month, has coincided with a significant expansion in the business. The development has been made partly as a result of the airport’s continued traffic increases, which has averaged around 8% growth so far in 2015.

Having being headquartered in Measham, Derbyshire since its inception in 2009, the time was right to move to the airport. “We already have our training office at Birmingham Airport, so it was the next logical step for us to establish our headquarters there too,” says APL Director Kevin Wells.

“We’re already feeling the positive benefits of being on-site and closer to our customers,” added APL Director Jez Heenan. “The move is testament to our commitment to strengthen further our existing relationships with clients and candidates alike, by being more visible and approachable.”

Bob Graham, Operations Director of Birmingham Airport said: “APL has gone from strength to strength in supplying staff to our third party operators on site and it is fantastic news that they now have a base here at the Airport. Just this year we have welcomed five new airlines and we hope to break the 10 million passenger mark this year so with the help of APL we can ensure that our partners have the adequate resource and skills available to manage the operation.”

The official opening on 15th June of APL’s office, conveniently located in the Comet Building next to the airport terminal building, also allowed guests the chance to take on a world champion. Former World Darts Champion Steve Beaton, who is sponsored by APL, was on-hand in the new headquarters office, giving guests the chance to ‘Beat Beaton’ in a game of darts.

That's an interesting proposal Daz, I like it a lot.

Agree with the rest of you folks about the West Midlands thing. I was having a conversation with a Yank friend of mine only the other day about this. He couldn't remember the name for "the area around Birmingham". He was going on about Greater London, Grater Manchester, and "you know, Birmingham has a weird name, not Greater but...". It took me a good 5 minutes to figure out he was trying to remember the awful phrase "West Midlands".

What I couldn't get over was a few years back when BHX rebranded using the message 'Hello World' to quote "reposition itself as a truly global airport". They then dropped 'International' from the name to encourage more flights to international destinations! :fool:

Nevertheless, things are looking good for BHX in the future and I wish them the very best.

I like it alot, although if it's going where we thought it was going I'm not sure a building of that shape would fit?

I don't know where it's going. I do love the design, maybe something will be knocked down to make room?

Looks great I like it alot.

The location is definitely interesting but still only a short walk away. I wonder if there will be more parking added elsewhere as that car park always seems to be full over the summer.

Loving the building though :good:

There should be excellent views from many floors SW and NE to the airport - quite a place to stay for a spotter, pre-holiday! Hopefully sound insulation will be good so that the road traffic doesn't spoil the stay. I wouldn't fancy the walk though unless they provide a raised walkway across the main road outside.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
