Absolutely crazy that we don't have a regular service to Florida

This situation is now getting beyond a joke, maybe time to start a petition or something.

This is nothing against MAN but the difference in my opinion is just not justified.

25 flights versus 1 (Summer only) naaaaaaah im not having it.

Looked at the CAA figures for Orlando /Sanford for 2016 to cheer a few people up.

Manchester 543,021

Birmingham 17,190

Glasgow struggled by on 115,335

I think someone needs to pop a little note on the new big bosses desk for when one turns up, they could also advise him the airport gets really busy in the summer and really really busy in the school holidays.
I'm obviously having a grumpy day, looks like the dog will be getting a stroll to the Green Dragon later.

I don't think the airport need to be told. they are VERY well aware that Orlando International and Toronto are our 2 most underserved routes from BHX, both of which can accommodate a huge increase in capacity. Its just a case of finding a British/European airline that's willing!

To my mind, not that they have ever made public to my knowledge any plans to go into Long0haul, Monarch and Jet2 are our best bet for this market

Now that Jet2 have opened BHX/STN, there now maybe a critical mass of bases to make it feasible.... long-haul bases at say MAN (there biggest base with major competition), BHX, STN and EDI (to complete against Virgin at GLA?) ?

TBH thomson are getting on my nerves a little bit just as much as the likes of Thomas cook. The difference is Thomson already fly from BHX but have made little or indeed no effort to increase flights out of BHX.

I think Thomson are just fleet constrained and focuses on LGW. They have pulled back STN ops and even at MAN new routes often come at the expense of old routes, especially long haul.

Hi there ray and, regarding those Orlando figures, I think we'll have to wait and see whether Primera Air decide if theyre going to have a crack at Orlando, because know one else seems interested. I think well have to wait till possibly this year or next to see what Primera Air intend to do.....AndyC.

Primera cannot do Orlando as it is out of range.

That's still pretty pathetic when you think that Glasgow current flies 115,000 to Orlando!!! ...even if we were only carrying 6.7million pax in 1998!!!

...to think, 13.4m is double that of 6.7m ....#justsaying

Some things of note from the upcoming Consultative Committee meeting.

-Emirates have confirmed that EK41/2 has been suspended rather than cancelled. Over 300,000 passengers have flown on their A380 hence it's appearance on EK39/40 from Oct.

-Discussion are ongoing to try and bring in a third handling agent. Premiere Handling expect to grow their client list.

-Passenger numbers (April - June) are up 19.2%. The average load factor was a touch over 80%, +4.4% on last year.

-The Meriden Bar will have a £1 million refit in November giving it a new layout and an 'all-new concept'.

-A new Premium Fast Track is now available for arriving passengers. This has been a significant investment by the airport 'with Border Force investing the money they receive in ensuring more gates are open for all passengers.' New express land kiosks are planned for departures.

- The new bag drop system is 'performing well'. The first phase of 32 kiosks have decreased queue times from 20 mins to 5 mins.

- Due to higher than expected passengers throughput the airport security operator has been recruiting. Problems have arisen with candidates either not turning up for interview or failing the process when they do. The six week wait for clearance has also seen successful candidates decline the offer of employment.

- The extended Car Park 7 will be available by December and will offer an additional 2000 long stay spaces with a shuttle bus to the airport.

- The new permanent bussing lounge, serving the north terminal remote stands (70s and 80s) is now in operation. The new facility is fully equipped with seating, toilets and air conditioning and incorporates five new gates with desks and communication units for staff. A new access point for peak-period immigration arrivals has also been created.

- The new Hilton Garden Inn is scheduled for opening in June/July 2018.

- Details of the delayed Masterplan

Work on the various Masterplan work streams presented to the Committee at its meeting in May is ongoing. This is a complex piece of work which is taking a considerable amount of time and effort. It is now proposed to publically consult on the master plan in late 2017 to allow time for the various growth options to be filtered and a final route for future growth to be chosen. The Committee will receive further details ahead of the commencement of formal public consultation.​

They were both mentioned in the airline activities section, along with the likes of British Airways, Jet2, Monarch etc. I just didn't bother posting that part as there was nothing mentioned that we don't already know.

An article about the recent trade mission to Canada. They had a meeting with the OTTP who said that Birmingham is their best performing airport globally

Yet another UK link emerged when we met Marc Dupont, head of government relations for the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, whose UK assets include a 48.3 per cent share in Birmingham Airport, which they say is their best-performing global airport holding.
