Lot of Tweets to BHX about huge queues for security, the reply is that they're trialling a new security system. It's not the first time that I've seen that reply so I guess early indications could be that it isn't quite working?

Just in the departure lounge now actually. Security was OK. There was a queue of 30 - 40 people when we joined but it moved quite quickly. The only difference I noticed since my last trip in November, was that where you put your bags and laptops etc into the trays, the counter was split into 3, so 3 people at one time could put all their stuff into the trays, and then you pushed it back onto the belt that goes through the scanner.

May I suggest that all members, as I do, read each airport thread on this forum and they will then "get a feel" for our fellow posters.
This is a very pleasant forum proved by the fact that it is very rare that a moderator has to call time on topic. I wish people who are supporters of airports other than MAN/BHX/BRS/LBA/CWL would join in and we would have a far better understanding of the UK Civil Aviation scene. :):):)

When I first started posting on the Birmingham forum there were only a couple of people on there and it quite often felt as if I was posting to myself. After a while more and more people joined and we're doing quite well now.

Just keep up the good work and more will get involved eventually :)

Just seen a post on the other forum saying "New CEO to be revealed"...

Yes and he (she) is not moving very far !!

Hopefully, that means that contracts have been signed. I would also hope that the announcement of a new CEO would co-incide with further good news for BHX. Or, perhaps they were waiting until the recent bad news was out of the way.

An interesting article outlining some of the potential for the future, lets hope that it's more than just words.

The question now is, how do we best use this financial and legislative support to get the region moving, and prove what we’ve always been saying – that whatever benefits the Midlands, benefits the UK? (y)

A Transformation of the Midlands!

The Midlands is already attracting investment from around the world. At the moment we are trading with 178 countries, and we are the only UK region with an export surplus to China – currently almost £3bn.

It is for these reasons that Midlands Connect and the Midlands Engine have earned the backing of government. With the correct infrastructure around HS2 and the best possible execution of the Midlands Rail Hub, we can bring together the Midlands from west to east and north to south and reach each other faster, cleaner and more comfortably than ever before.

This region has the potential to be a leader on the world stage. And now it has the backing to do it

Birmingham Airport is to join the Guild of Travel Management Companies.

Birmingham Airport will become the first UK airport outside London to join the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC).

The GTMC has a long history of campaigning to boost regional air capacity to meet business demand.

Adrian Parkes, chief executive, GTMC said: “Given the clear correlation between air connectivity and economic growth, we are therefore delighted to introduce Birmingham Airport to our high-profile group of industry partners. We look forward to our combined force strengthening our calls for greater investment in the UK’s transport infrastructure to further enable international business travel.”

William Pearson, aviation director, Birmingham Airport, added: “As we enter a busy winter period, we’re delighted to be in a position to increase our business exposure by partnering with the GTMC. We hope our new relationship will highlight the Midlands’ strong economy and how our ongoing investment ensures we meet the needs of the almost 13 million passengers who fly internationally from Birmingham every year.

Maybe somebody should point out to Mr Pearson that aprox' 1.3m of that nearly 13m do not fly internationally.
A minor detail perhaps but reinforces my feeling that the current management is more concerned with spin and
need somebody with a strong aviation background to get them back on track.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
