I am just hope that they finally add a route to Hong Kong. Cathey A350, Dragon A330, HK Airlines A350 would love any of them to come. If he can pull it off he be in my good books.

Even with a daily route between Birmingham & Hong Kong I don't think it would affect Emirates, Turkish & Qatar growth at BHX. Most of there contecting flights are to places like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan & Thailand.
I really hope there is a direct route to HKG in the future, I see a lot of potential in Birmingham Airport to open new routes in Asia. Some initially thought that Emirates serving Birmingham was ridiculous, but look where we are now, that too with A380s! Hong Kong should be popular with many tourists, and hopefully Singapore will be one day. Great connections to Australia, Japan and New Zealand. Fingers crossed
 
I wish Nick Barton every success. He certainly brings experience, and from a BHX perspective, perhaps those insights and influences taha we may have lacked in the loco/fees areas. I assume that unlike many senior executive new appointments that there won't be contact time restrictions on bringing former clients to BHX. ;) Still we can say that easyJet, Ryanair and Wizz were here anyway! My hunch is that he will do well and if he wants to see the position as a 5yr tenure to allow a spring to even more prestigious posts then BHX will benefit. I think I'll write to him and congratulate him.
 
Hi there and good morning and happy new year to you all, yes, best of luck to Mr Barton on his first day in the big job. I think we need to give him now some time to establish his own management team, plus also the full layout of the airport to know what he's up against, but also what plans he may have for growth or change in direction to get the airport moving forward. Also needs to get his negotiating and persuading skills out to try and get those airlines that left to return, plus also persuade new airlines to come in see what is on offer, anyway very best of luck to him, and let's hope the success he had at Stanstead and Luton, he can replicate it at Birmingham, which would be fantastic... AndyC

As I left Tesco this evening I noticed the police helicopter hovering, it seems as if there were reports of a drone in the vicinity of BHX.

Thankfully it seems as if it was located quickly and persons are now 'assisting police with their investigation' :)

The spokesman said: "Two minutes after lifting to reports of a drone near Birmingham Airport suspicious vehicles located. Officers talked in and drone located. Persons now assisting police with investigation."

I love the euphemism that suggests those arrested are 'assisting with the investigation' or 'assisting with enquiries'.

Quite often they don't assist at all; just the opposite as of course is their legal right.
 
Police language is a legal construction designed for the avoidance of doubt. 'Helping the Police with their enquiries' is actually a duty in law and a refusal to do so is an offence under PACE 1984 and a suspect is usually under caution when offering said 'help' or under arrest, therefore the official Police speak is designed to be as unhelpful to journalists as is possible in order to protect the rights of the suspect to a fair hearing in court.

This was a question in my course examination.

I might have to retort thus. “You do not have to say anything. But, it may harm your defence if you do not mention when questioned something which you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.”;)

Birmingham Airport awarded grant funding of £1.4 million towards electric buses
Birmingham airport has been awarded £1.4m from the Ultra Low Emission Bus Scheme administered by the Department for Transport (DfT) and the Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV).
The funding awarded will support the electrification of the airport’s landside bus fleet with ultra-low emission buses operating as a passenger transport service on all of the Airport car park routes.
The grant will partly fund the purchase of electric buses as well as the installation of dedicated bus charging infrastructure. The remaining investment, to achieve this infrastructure, will be made by Birmingham Airport.

Nick Barton, Chief Executive Officer at Birmingham airport, said “Since 2012, the Airport has reduced its CO2 per passenger by 20% per passenger. This funding will support us in working towards lowering our CO2 per passenger even further which is just fantastic.”
“We have made significant customer service improvements across the Airport to increase capacity and improve passenger experience, with the vision of positioning Birmingham as Europe’s leading airport. The electric buses form part of this vision, not to mention their sustainability benefits being ultra-low emission.”
The airport is advanced in negotiations with a bus manufacturer and aims to have the necessary infrastructure works undertaken to commence the fully electric bus service in Autumn 2019.
The grant was announced at the UK Bus Summit in Westminster on Wednesday 6th February 19.

A world-leading aircraft has made its debut at Birmingham Airport at a special event to showcase it in the region.
XLR Executive Jet Centre Birmingham hosted the Gulfstream G280 super-midsize business jet aircraft to guests and potential users.
The aircraft has a range in excess of 4,000 miles with the capability of flying non-stop from the UK to New York and the event was the first time this aircraft type has visited the Midlands region.

The event was also an opportunity for XLR, which is the premium travel brand and subsidiary of Rigby Group, to promote its state-of-the-art executive jet centre in Birmingham. Sir Peter Rigby, chairman of the Rigby Group, said: “We have an excellent relationship with Gulfstream and we were delighted to bring this world class aircraft to our XLR Executive Jet Centre Birmingham.
“The aircraft had travelled down from an event at our Jet Centre in Liverpool and completed the journey in just 17 minutes.”

Nick Barton, CEO at Birmingham Airport, added: “We’re proud to have enabled the impressive G280 aircraft to be showcased in Birmingham, and to support our business partner, XLR, which plays a vital role in supporting executive flying for our region.”

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
