Oh that's sad. I was looking at FR24 earlier and noticed the BHD - BHX flight was cancelled but just assumed it was down to COVID.

I had a bad feeling about this ever since the uncertainty began over who would win the Aer Lingus Regional contract. Ireland’s travel restrictions have been an airline killer.

However, it looks as though Aer Lingus will step into the breach.

I found this about Birmingham flight from Lahore for Cricket transporting Cricket Team to UK: (I do hope we start scheduled Lahore flights in the future.) COPY AND PASTE from PIA FORUM

According to latest reports:

On June 25, a chartered aircraft will perform Abu Dhabi to Birmingham via Lahore flight for the transportation of Pakistani cricket team members.

The chartered aircraft will arrive in Lahore from Abu Dhabi with Pakistani cricketers who took part in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 edition matches in Abu Dhabi.

Members of Pakistani cricket team going to UK will board the chartered aircraft at Lahore Airport from where it will depart for Birmingham.

It's showing on FR24 as an 18:00 arrival with the flight number PK9709 operated by an Airbus A330-300. PK are currently banned from UK airspace, but this probably doesn't stop a third party operator from running the flight under a PK flight number. I also looked at the official BHX arrivals page, but there is nothing showing on that regarding this flight.

Morning all,

Just thought I'd put out a view from outside the UK......
I'm trying to get home to the UK (BHX).....was going through Germany and do ten days there and fly back to blighty. That was until Turkey became a variant country of concern (for Germany) on the 17th August.
To my annoyance my partner just read that an expat Brit who lives in Turkey flew to Dublin, where she was supposed to stay for ten days (by law), then fly to England. Did she bugger...she ignored that and flew straight to England from Dublin where she was allowed straight in ...then promptly tested positive for Covid-19 when she got home. How was she even allowed to get on the flight from Dublin to England???

I've just done eight flights through ten airports just to get from Dalaman to California and back, yet I can't get to England without quarantining.

The cherry on the top, is that if Turkey goes amber this Thursday, I still have to quarantine as the UK does not recognise Turkish vaccination certificates(I had Pfizer Bion-tech) even though the whole EU does and most of the world tbh. Had no issues going thru Qatar to the USA. The UK is missing out on some serious aviation income right now....I normally would've gone thru LHR.
It's not as if England is totally free of the virus....seems like it's rampaging thru the UK at the moment. Most people and European countries are well vaccinated, yet the highest restrictions remain in place.

I sit here and wonder what the next year will bring....I'm thinking more of the same

Cheers all

Karl

I've heard of cases where people who have dual nationality, and therefore two passports, fly from say South Africa to a country of the UK's green list on the SA Passport, then fly from the Green country to the UK on their UK passport. As long as the last time they flew out of the UK they used their SA Passport, (or travelled to a non red list country on their UK passport) there would be no "chain" to speak off for Border force to verify where they've been.

Sadly, aviation recovery doesn't seem to be a priority for this government who believe that through furlough, the traffic light system and allowing those vaccinated in the UK, EU or USA entry from Green/Amber without quarantine, that they have done enough for the industry.

The fact that they still insist of 2 tests being performed for arrivals from Green countries, even if the passenger is fully vaccinated, in the name of identifying new variants yet only sequence 5% of tests, shows its just a cover tbh and that until Covid is under control the government doesn't really want anyone travelling abroad, and that the only reason they're allowing what's currently allowed is out of fear the UK will fall behind economic wise if they kept borders shut like AUS/NZ.

Good point, however on the forum it was on, she asked for all the relevant information from the moderator before she flew from Turkey. She then told everyone on the forum what she'd done and the moderator has advised that she comes clean to UK immigration. I'm thinking she only has one passport and one citizenship.
I wonder how many other people have slipped through the net.
When my partner and I flew back from BHX to IST via FRA in February, we knew we had to quarantine in Istanbul for ten days. I was taken to one side for transport to the accomodation and my partner was allowed through to carry on home!
He didn't and alerted the boss of Istanbul immigration, did ten days quarantine with me, and the guy that let him through and stamped his passport, was given a public (and probably private) bollocking.

It all seems a little over the top. When going to California via Doha four weeks ago, it was an absolute breeze. PCR and vaccination certificate all photographed at Istanbul and sent onto Doha and San Francisco. Nobody asked for these again at any point. It was my first transpolar flight and 15hrs on a plane is not something I'd like to repeat...business class or not...period.

I'll see if Dublin is a viable point to spend ten days. I really hope it all pans out.

Cheers

Karl

I might conclude that some officials do as they please because they have the authority vested upon them to use discretion or to be bloody minded depending on whether they had any last night.......or the Guinness was off!

Also consider that because of Brexit, European countries have no obligation to assist UK nationals other than the usual consular considerations. It is a lottery now, not an innocent pleasure to fly.

I believe Turkey isn't on Irelands red list or that hotel quarantine isn't required. Apparently its not just Turkey that people are using this loophole for either.

Yes the loophole is going in to DUB. When flying from DUB to the UK there is no need for a PLF or aby tests since you are within the common travel area. You are supposed to submit a PLF if you have been outside the CTA in the preceding 10 day period but clearly many do not.

For obvious reasons immigration checks between Ireland and the UK (especially via NI) is a sensitive topic, but I have heard immigration doing spot checks for arriving flight from Ireland sometimes.

I wonder if BHX will be attending? Since we lost our Milan connection it’s not like they can fly directly there is it lol!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
