Copenhagen looks as if it's up to 3x daily on Mon, Tue, Thurs and Fri from 29th March. It's showing as 2x A320 and 1x CRJ9. Wed and Sun still show 2 flights and Sat one. July and August see the usual reductions with Scandinavia pretty much shutting down but the 3x daily comes back early Sept.

Good to see further increases on established routes and SAS commitment to BHX. Surely they will give Stockholm another go in the future and maybe an Oslo route. :smile:

Or could it be a pre-emptive strike on NAX.If rumours are correct then at least one maybe more Scandinavian destination to be added ex BHX in the next 12 months or so.
Having said that SAS have been loyal to BHX,particularly on the CPH route and have seen loads and frequencies gradually increase in the last couple of years.
As for Stockholm or Oslo,i think we may have to wait and see what NAX have up their sleeve.Stockholm in particular is very seasonal.When operated before timings were all over the place,so I guess anything could happen.

I had the same thought about NAX.

Yeah the Stockholm timings started bad and were constantly chopped and changed to be made even worse. A CRJ9 with half decent timings could be perfect for ARN, probably more so than a Norwegian 738?

Not sure about the take up of arriving in CPH at 00.20

Yeah those timings do appear to be rather odd, however i did read an article recently which mentioned SAS expansion to many North American/Long haul routes next year so maybe this is a feeder flight to try and get some BHX passengers onto these flights which usually depart early in the morning. Maybe tring to make CPH as popular for BHX connecting pax as AMS/FRA ????

Id imagine CPH is a 24 hour airport with many facilities open around the clock, i would also imagine a city like CPH to have 24 hour public transport so you probably would still beable to get into central CPH if you needed to.

Conformation of the CPH increase.

BIRMINGHAM Airport has completed a hat-trick of new service announcements with the news that Scandinavian Airlines is set to increase its Birmingham to Copenhagen frequency.

SAS will extend its present 12 services per week to 16 from June 2016.

The announcement comes in a week that has already seen the airport boosted by Qatar Airways’ decision to start an eight-flights-a-week service to Doha next March and Czech Airlines’ conformation that it will become the eleventh new airline to begin using the hub by operating flights to Prague five times a week.

The additional four weekly SAS services to the Danish capital will give business travellers more flexibility when travelling to Scandinavia, particularly if they wish to return on the same day.

The additional flights will operate on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, departing from Copenhagen at 20:00 and arriving into Birmingham at 21:00. The Birmingham departure is scheduled for 21:40, arriving into Copenhagen at 00:30.

William Pearson, Birmingham Airport’s Aviation Development Director, said: “SAS is a long standing and valued customer of Birmingham Airport so we are very pleased to see these extra flights on sale, giving our passengers greater flexibility and alternatives when travelling to Copenhagen.”

SAS operates a CRJ900 aircraft on the routes with 88 business and economy seats.

Hans Dyhrfort, SAS Regional General Manager Western Europe, commented: “Strong traffic between Birmingham and Copenhagen has allowed us to increase frequency, with UK passengers travelling to both Copenhagen, or conveniently connecting to the rest of Scandinavia and Europe.”

SAS has been operating from Birmingham for 26 years and has carried 1.6m passengers over this time.

SAS will reduce CPH back down to 12 weekly next summer after being 16 weekly this summer.

Flights will be 2 daily Mon-Fri and daily on weekends.

It's not unusual to see 1 weekly flights, such as MAN-EGC on Jet2, but on a city pair like BHX-ARN, I would have expected to see at least a Fri/Sun offering, at least get the city break crowd.

Exactly, Stockholm wouldnt be a place i would want to go for a whole week, maybe 4 nights ?? Its just an unusual low frequency.

This flight strikes me as predominantly inbound. Maybe Swedes taking a weeks holiday in the UK?

It might be that on that flight they are being backed by a Swedish travel company. At CWL the DUS flight is 1 weekly because of that reason.
