The BHX facility now has US FAA approval

MONARCH AIRCRAFT ENGINEERING EXTENDS FAA APPROVAL

Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL), the engineering division of The Monarch Group, is pleased to announce that they have extended their US Department of Transportation Federal Aviation Administration approval to their Birmingham and Copenhagen base maintenance facilities.

Monarch Aircraft Engineering’s FAA approval now covers Luton, Birmingham, Copenhagen and Manchester bases. Already maintaining US registered aircraft at Luton and Manchester, this will allow the UK based MRO to further extend their service offering to all their base maintenance facilities.

Commenting on the approval, Ian Bartholomew, Managing Director for Monarch Aircraft Engineering said: “This further supports our strategic plan to explore new and exciting markets and grow our customer base from North America.”

From MAEL Twitter.

Here's 2 @Monarch A330's side by side on their end of lease checks in our @bhx_official hangar

It looks like they will be parted out after being the Monarch flagships for so long :s_sad

Will they be taken apart at BHX? It looks like they're being stripped out, and the rudders removed. They certainly aren't going anywhere right now. At least one of the 757s went to Kemble, but it looks like the A332s will only leave in their component parts...

Or could I have got it wrong and are they going to be sold on? Does anyone know what their fate will be?

I've read elsewhere (I can't remember where though) that the A330's have a new owner in Air Asia X.

MAEL have got the contract for the BHX based Gainjet 757

Line Maintenance for GainJet

Monarch Aircraft Engineering Limited (MAEL), the engineering division of The Monarch Group, are pleased to announce that they have secured a line maintenance technical handling agreement with GainJet Aviation.

The agreement covers a full suite of line maintenance services for the Greek operator’s VIP Boeing 757-200 charter operation at Birmingham Airport in the UK. GainJet Aviation, headquartered in Athens is a new customer for MAEL.

Commenting on the agreement, Neil Kirby, Sales Manager for MAEL said “We are delighted to be supporting GainJet Aviation and welcome them to our growing customer base.”

Not sure if this has been reported previously so apologies if it has.
The TUI Nordic B763 SE-RFS has been bought by DHL,to be re-registered N284DH.
I don't know where the conversion to freighter will take place,or when delivery to DHL will happen.

I noticed that an ex Monarch A330 was back outside this morning. Hopefully a sign that it'll be leaving soon.

Some 787's are due into BHX hangar for checks in a few months time as it stands at the moment.

Would that be the Norwegian 787's?

I believe that the whole fleet are due to pass through in March and April.

Unite said 123 jobs in Manchester, 13 in Luton and several at Birmingham will be axed.

National officer Oliver Richardson said: "Eighteen months ago our members at Monarch made significant sacrifices in terms of their pay, and terms and conditions to help secure a deal with Greybull Capital.

"So it is very disappointing and a severe blow to our engineering members to hear this news when they have played their part in turning around Monarch and making the airline the profitable business that it is today."

well its re-assuring that they seem to be consolidating their operations into Birmingham and out of the 3 locations, Birmingham is the least hard hit but sad news for employers elsewhere. MAEL has been a great opportunity for BHX, long may it continue into the future

It was only a year or so ago that the head of MAEL was suggesting a third Birmingham hangar was being planned.

Hopefully as many staff as possible will be given the option to relocate, still a massive upheaval for them though.

A380s coming in for maintenance is surely good business for MAEL BHX but in practical terms what would this mean? If one A380 is inside and bearing in mind its sheer dimensions, could this cut down on what else can be accommodated? Could this lead to MAEL feeling the need to invest in another hangar at BHX?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
