Thanks: the passenger I spoke to said they were towed, not pushed, which was the bit that confused me. Certainly it was an entertaining landing; more to come tonight (2/1/12) by all accounts!

Are the Fokker f100s a loud jet???? Im in Wortley a fair distance from the airport and the noise from flight klm1550 fokker100 deaparting was ridiculous sounded like concorde with full afterburners on!

I wouldn't describe them as a loud jet, in fact I remember when BMI took delivery of the first F100. They described it as one of the quietest aircraft flying. Today though they're probably one of the noisiest aircraft operating into LBA but no way near as loud as Concorde.

Just wondered what they were like compared to other jets as it gave off a right rumble as it left. I can sometimes hear the ryanairs takeoff when the leave off 32 but this Fokker I haven't heard anything like it. For a small plane it was loud!

Air France are having financial difficulties.
Strong rumours about KLM being sold off. KLM are profitable.
IAG is probably too low on cash at the moment to make an offer.
I did hear a few years back from staff in Amsterdam, the prefered partner was BA at the time.

would be ridiculous if air france sold off the profitable arm. it would not save air france in the long run. they need real reform. however, the stubborn french people and unions will not let that happen. they would kill it off before letting it change.

also, is the amsterdam not operated by a f70?

I have been on the KLM website and LBA-AMS is going back to 4 daily. Checked for mid/late April so looks as if it will start with the summer timetable. There are even 4 fights on a Saturday so the Jet2 withdrawal (Sat) seems to have encoraged them to put on the extra flight compared with last summer.

Glad to see it's going back to 4 daily. Without KLM I'd be flying from MAN a lot more!

Looks like the Sunday evening flight is staying this year too, tho the last flight into LBA has moved back to 20:40 from AMS (it's 21:45 or thereabouts now).

Yes, it's usually a F70, tho I have been on a F100 into LBA once.

If the rumours about KLM moving from HUY to DSA are correct, what will the effect be on LBA.

1) Some HUY pax coming to LBA ?
2) Some LBA pax moving to DSA ?
3) No change

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

I wasn't aware either that they were planning on moving from HUY to DSA.

More bad news for HUY it seems!

Can you say where these rumours came from as this seems to be news to everyone so far.

It would be a bit of a first though if it is true. Peel gaining routes rather than losing them!

On the question you asked I would see some LBA pax moving to DSA. Donny is easier to get to (depending where you live of course) and suffers less from weather during winter and finally is much less crowded. Not advocating it - just thinking out loud.

As for HUY pax coming to LBA - I would doubt it very much.

It's on the DSA forum but maybe some of this old news. Did not notice the dates beyond Pugs last posting so maybe it's a non story after now checking it out.

I think someone has been jumping to conclusions from "overheard conversations". KLM have a very loyal following from HUY and they don't impinge on LBA. If they moved to DSA they would lose pax from Leeds and from Humberside. I think the management at HUY would fight "tooth and nail" to keep the AMS service.

I now live in South East Leeds and I can drive to LBA and DSA in a broadly similar time. HUY is obviously slightly further away but is not entirely out of the question given my location, though I would call it the more inconvenient of the three choices.

As a staunch ally of LBA, I will always choose LBA wherever possible. HOWEVER, I have used the likes of East Midlands when it has been preferable for me to do so, usually due to flight timings or significant cost savings. My feelings are that a KLM link to AMS from DSA would not make passengers defect on the basis of cost (as a large proportion of passengers would fly onwards from Schipol, meaning that the cost of flight would not be too dissimilar to that offered at LBA) and that the route would probably command a 3 x daily service, making flight timings less of a factor. It would then come down to convenience and, frankly, a flight from DSA could steal a decent number of pax from LBA as it would be more convenient for residents of South East Leeds, Castleford, Pontefract etc to use DSA. Those who already use HUY would more than likely make the switch to DSA rather than LBA and a potential service would be very successful.

On the other side of the coin, because a DSA operation would potentially impact on the LBA rotations, I do not believe KLM would make that decision and that the status quo will remain just that.

This is all OLD NEWS,2009, it was a rumour of a new airlline going to DSA with 21 weekly flights. which turned out to be Easyjet, KLM have just signed a new long term contract with HUY .

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
