Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Well, KLM has made no press release regarding the KL1551 but stab/trim issues reported over the radio are accurate. They needed the better weather and runway length of Manchester. No evacuation was needed in Manchester.

Today, the end for the Fokker 100 was announced. KLM has placed an order for 5 more E190 for delivery in 2011 so the fokker 100 is flying its last months at KLM. Its the second fokker aircraft varient to be phased out in 2 years, following on from the Fokker 50.

The Fokker 70 is also not expected to fly far beyond 2015 and this may be brought forward due to technical costs & despatch reliability.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

It will be sad to see the Fokker 100's leave the fleet. They have been work horses over the past 10 to 15 years for KLM and under their previous guises KLM UK and Air UK.

I wounder how long it will be until LBA starts to see the Embraer's more often. Now that KLM have announced that they will be going 4 daily on the LBA-AMS route in March next year its seems more likley that LBA will be stuck with the Fokker 70's for a liitle bit longer.

I Just hope that the Embrear's start to slip in more often when the new scheduled starts...

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Well, looking back on the last 12 months LBA was to be an all Fk70 operation. However, due to high load factors & technical issues with the FK70 we have seen the FK100 visit LBA at least once a week! The last 5 FK100 aircraft are not part of the operation, they just get allocated flights on a daily basis as standby aircraft.

These 5 new E190 are to replace those last 5 FK100 so I hope, the E190's will begin to visit LBA on a much more regular basis sometime next year.

It is sad to see the FK100 go but the classic ex Air UK FK101 went over a year ago now and they are sadly going to the scrap man one by one. Except PH-OFA FK103 which is now at the Aviodrome.

Most would have wanted to see the FK70 go before the FK100 but hey ho

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Some systematic cancellations over the network today for KLC due to the technical status of the FK70 fleet, this mornings KL1540 is the first casualty. It arrived at 2235 yesterday evening, i suspect you will see the aircraft position out at some stage today however or operate a revenue flight later even.

The aircraft was seen over at Multiflight earlier today.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

The problem with the KLM aircraft that was taken over to multiflight was a cracked windscreen.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

A mess at Schiphol today, after a weekend of baltic temperatures its freezing fog today! Really Bad fog and set to stay into the night. All flights are currently running delayed with big slots. Reduced runway capacity and LVPs are holding up inbound and outbound traffic. Also due to the fog, remote de-icing is not allowed so aircraft are having to wait hours to get de-iced on stand.

The 1545 is now finally on its way to leeds, the 1549 will be a Fokker 100 (at the moment) delayed and the 1551 will probably pick up a delay too.

There was also a chance of Fog for LBA too at some point today.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Well the fog has lifted after 40 hours of hell at Schiphol!

KLM are reported to have made a firm deal with Embraer as of this week for its 5 new Embraer 190 aircraft. They will take the new aircraft in the spring of 2012 so not as early as expected.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Why is Leeds always the last to get the newbies? Is the Leeds route not as profitable as many of the airlines other routes?

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

For operational reasons & load factor too LBA is not ready for KLM to base the E190 just yet. Will take alot of time and money to change over the base from Fokker to Embraer.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I thought that load factors were now pretty good on the KLM AMS route - and that some of the F100's we have seen were due to high booked loads? Is it not the case also that an upgrade to the aircraft type can sometimes encourage new business and increased passenger loadings? The situation must be decent, since KLM have increased their rotations back to 4 times daily from next summer, although perhaps doing that AND increasing the seating capacity on each flight might be a step too far.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I would have thought the same White Heather and like you say, why increase to 4 x daily if one of the reasons not to increase to an E190 is due to the load factors. I suspect there's more to this than meets the eye.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Puttingthe E190 would require alot of money & the load factors would have to be even better. Who knows, may see it 2012 when 5 more e190 arrive.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

KLM alone canx almost 200 legs yesterday with more today too. Several leeds rotations are affected. Heavy snow fell most of yesterday making taxiways unsafe and down to 1 runway operation. The airport was snow closed several times throughout the day. More than 15,000 people spent the night on camp beds in the terminal. KLM is not letting anybody with an onward connection travel to amsterdam until the back log is clear as they can not cope with the thousands already stranded.

Aircraft are flying today but with massive delays due to de-icing & slots & again reduced runway capacity. There are also more canx services hourly. ICA traffic is getting priority over euro. Airports in France, Germany, Belgium & Luxembourgh are also having heavy snow delays.

Freezing temperaturs, snow showers & bad viz are also on the cards for amsterdam today.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Hi All

It looks like KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have officially comfirmed that they are increasing there Leeds/Bradford - Amsterdam service to 4 times daily from March 2011 at long last. A Press Release has appeared today on the airport's website as well. http://www.leedsbradfordairport.co....10-12-21-klm-leeds-bradford-increased-service

KLM's Leeds Bradford Service Increased

KLM has announced a fourth daily service on weekdays from Leeds Bradford International Airport to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for Summer 2011. Increased frequency on the popular route will further cement Leeds Bradford International Airport position as one of KLM’s successful departure points on its extensive UK network.

The new frequency commences on 28th March 2011 and alongside improved timings for the original three daily flights, the schedule will improve long haul connectivity via its award winning hub, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.

Says Henri Hourcade, AIR FRANCE KLM General Manager UK & Ireland: “We are delighted to further improve the KLM service on such an important regional route, and hope it will be warmly welcomed by our passengers. We are very happy to provide better connectivity to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for both leisure and business passengers, by increasing our three daily frequencies to four from next Summer.”

Tony Hallwood, Leeds Bradford International Airport’s Commercial Director, said; “Leeds Bradford welcomes the addition of a fourth daily frequency to Amsterdam providing improved connectivity to KLM’s worldwide route network”.

From 28th March 2011 the new flight schedule will be:
From Leeds Bradford International Airport to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
KL1540 06:35 08:50 Daily
KL1546 09:15 11:25 Daily
KL1548 13:30 15:45 Daily
KL1550 17:20 19:35 Monday to Friday

From Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Leeds Bradford International Airport
KL1545 08:30 08:35 Daily
KL1547 12:45 12:50 Daily
KL1549 16:25 16:30 Monday to Friday
KL1551 20:45 20:55 Daily

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, with its SkyTeam partners, connects Leeds Bradford International Airport to over 900 destinations worldwide via four daily flights to Amsterdam. The carrier’s hub, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, offers smooth connections with just 40 minutes connection time for short haul flights and only 50 minutes for long haul flights. Passengers therefore no longer need to travel to a larger airport to experience global travel; KLM offers worldwide connections from the comfort and convenience of a local airport.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Does anyone think that this may be to discourage any other "interlining" airline to try to come in?

I doubt it. KLM are increasing the frequency at BRS and NCL and possibly other airports as well.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

KLM could have actually have been losing some previously loyal customers since this flight was first cut.
The lost LHR link should also strengthen KLM's position quite a bit I would have thought.

No, the opposite if anything.

As Aviador has pointed out KLM has gone back is going back to 4 daily AMS rotations at BRS in March and Air France came onto the BRS-Cdg route a few years ago after it had merged with KLM, and that flies 3 x daily, even though easyJet already catered and still caters for point to point pax on BRS-Cdg.

Last week Aer Lingus/AerArann announced a new 3 x daily BRS-DUB (Ryanair already flies this route) aimed at onward travel to North America via DUB.

This sort of thing suggests to airlines there is business to be had and at LBA, an airport that has clearly been underused and still is relative to it catchment, the current burgeoning of routes, frequencies and passenger numbers there shouts that this is an airport that airlines ought to be looking at seriously.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
