Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Jet2 are not always the cheapest, I get emails all the time from KLM offering
cheap fares between Leeds and Amsterdam, a colleague at work was about to book a weekend away for her and some friends using Jet2-
I got her to look at the KLM web-site and she saved a fortune. From memory fare on Jet2 was £130 return (all in) whereas KLM was £80.00.
She was booking several months in advance.

Of course with KLM you are using a full service carrier, so no hassle with baggage allowance, seating of refreshments (I believe these are still free with KLM)

I accept most pax are connecting in AMS, but those wo are doing a point to point arem issing a trick.

I think that we are going to have to agree to "disagree" on this one.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I booked a trip to Amsterdam a few months ago and it was cheaper with KLM. Jet2 have a lower 'headline' fare, but you add the taxes, baggage fees, check-in fees etc etc. That was the mid-morning flight out and the evening flight back.

An added benefit is that as I'm also a flying blue gold card holder so I can also use the lounge if I fly KLM.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

I booked LBA - AMS - WAW yesterday at short notice to fly on Tuesday. It cost 278 GBP which I think is pretty good for 4 flight sectors.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Just tried to make a booking from Amsterdam to LBA on Tuesday 16th August. KLM want €602 for the flight, Jet2 €74.99. Guess who I will be flying with, KLM's fare seemed extortionate for such a short hop over the North Sea. Just out of interest could purchase a KLM return flight from LBA to Dubai via Amsterdam for less, no logic in KLM's fare structure.

Could it be that one date is almost fully booked so they have put the price up accordingly?

Quick check of the KLM website showing fare same price for all 4 flights that day and for 3 days either side of date. Can't imagine all flights are nearly fully on all dates though it is school holiday period. Does seem very expensive or possibly that their is something wrong with the KLM booking system.

I Would understand if it was £200 but over £600 that stupid. I think there is something up with the booking system.

KLM test one way fares campaign at Leeds Bradford Airport
25.07.11

KLM is trialling a new promotion at Leeds Bradford Airport to highlight its one-way fare deals. The new campaign will run until the start of September. If successful, the scheme will be rolled out nationally.

The campaign will use a mix of outdoor, print and online media and focuses on highlighting added value services included as standard in KLM’s one-way fare. The Amsterdam on a Plate initiative shows an airline food tray segmented to show the added value services including snacks and drinks, hold baggage and a high frequency schedule along with a £39 one-way fare including all taxes.

Henri Hourcade, general manager of KLM UK & Ireland, said: ‘In order to attract the cost-conscious traveller, we need to take a different approach, focusing on one-way fares but also clearly showing that on KLM the fare you pay includes all services. We chose Leeds Bradford Airport as our guinea pig to show our commitment to the region. We recently increased our frequencies from three to four flights daily so this is a good opportunity for us to profile not only our flexible schedules but also our all-inclusive fares.’

This is excellent news. I very often book a return fare to somewhere because it's cheaper than 1 way but I don't always know the return date so many times I did not use the incoming flight.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Don't book one way fares from LBA, just look at the ludicrous fares they charge one way from Amsterdam to Leeds. Cheapest fares currently qouted on the KLM website is €602 (All dates) Checked with KLM call centre in the UK who confirm this fare is correct and not an internet error. How can they justfy this for a short 1hr 10min hop over the North Sea.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

KLM F100 was a pleasant visiter today anyhow, PH-OFO operated this afternoon's 13:30 departure KL1548/68K.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

There were plenty of these fares around when I just looked on KLM. For example.....

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

Just checked again, 2nd Aug - 8th Aug still 397 one way return 100 pounds.
In KLM's announcement, it does not mention shopping around. If you have to shop around, then it is of no use to regular travellers who must surely be the vast majority.
If I cannot see any difference to normal fares yet, then as I said, maybe the scheme has not started yet.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

The promotion has started, hence the large scale advertising campaign on billboards and online.

The example I gave was £39 out and £39 back including taxes - £78 in total.

Just picked a week in October and currently all 3 departures on Tues 18th are £39 one way. It did say that only a couple of seats were left at the fare, so clearly they are not selling many seats at that price - as you would expect.

I think it is only reasonable to expect that to get the lowest fares you will have to book in advance and/or be flexible. I don't use KLM often but to be fair to them, despite being unfamiliar website, I have found the £39 fares very easily and very quickly.

Incidently, it looks like the service reverts back to 3 x daily for the winter. Bookings for late March onwards revert to 4 x daily again

Fully accept you can buy a one way ticket from LBA to Amsterdam at £39 but then try and book a one way ticket back from Amsterdam back to LBA. Even in October it's showing the fare as 602 Euro's. No way is anyone going to book single tickets at those prices contary to what KLM are saying about the one way deals being piloted from Leeds.

Re: KLM cityhopper B.V

But if you wanted to fly out to AMS and come back from AMS, you'd book a return ticket surely? As I pointed above, they seem to be offering return tickets for £78, which is £39 each way.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
