I think having x amount of seats paid for by JLR to support the routes means they have greater comfort to offer more affordable seats for the remainder. Some attractive prices quoted and on your own private jet (with 40 or so guests)

So now that we have this base confirmed, as others have alluded, do we think there is more to come?

I will leave it up to people who know more than me and who are better at scrutinising timetables, but it sounds to me that this aircraft is not yet fully utilised, if this unit is purely to be used for BHX routes.

Assuming a single based jet flying European regional routes, you would expect the unit to be able to perform 3x sectors a day, and as such circa 21 sectors a week. So far, 4x Graz and 6x Gothenburg and 6x Nuremberg = 16 sectors. The question is, if the aircraft is to be utilised, how will the other 5 sectors be used? Will this be for BHX routes or as 'W' pattern routes for other airports???

Maybe they can afford to and need to allow some slack as JLR seem to be sponsoring the routes. Working the aircraft
to max could leave a lot of JLR employees unhappy if and when things go wrong.

Maybe some slack needs to be incorporated into the schedule? If JLR are basically sponsoring the routes they would not be happy if their people are

The Graz scheduled has also been adjusted with another flight added on a Monday, and one on a Thursday :-

Bhx-Graz BM 1401 07:30 10:40 M . . . . . . ER4 from 27/02
Bhx-Graz BM 1405 11:25 14:35 . . . . F . . ER4 from 03/03
Bhx-Graz BM 1405 13:15 16:25 M . . . . . . ER4 from 13/03
Bhx-Graz BM 1407 16:00 19:10 . . . Th . . . ER4 from 16/03

Graz-Bhx BM 1402 11:10 12:40 M . . . . . . ER4 from 27/02
Graz-Bhx BM 1406 15:05 16:35 . . . . F . . ER4 from 03/03
Graz-Bhx BM 1406 16:55 18:25 M . . . . . . ER4 from 13/03
Graz-Bhx BM 1408 19:40 21:10 . . . Th . . . ER4 from 16/03

which means on a Monday 2 departures to Graz, 1 to Gothenburg and 1 to Nuremburg, so 2 aircraft required, with the extra aircraft just doing Gothenburg, which seems a little strange!

The extra two flights were 'supposed' to be on Thur and Sun. I wonder if the Sun flight has been mistakenly added onto a Monday?

They could have just changed their minds of course but it definitely seems a little strange.

Well this is what the schedule looks like now. A bit confusing as we need a second plan to make Monday work but gaps on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Sundays, and we have to wonder what happens to the plane on Saturday lol!?

bmi regional uses aircraft on behalf of tour companies on charter flights and to carry sports teams and others on private charters, especially at weekends when the demand is greater and they have aircraft available. The BRS base is regularly utilised for this type of work.

Yes I think that will cover the Saturday and possibly the Sunday AM, but it seems clear to me the second Graz flights added for Monday in in error and will reappear on a Sunday ....

A good move from BMIR I reckon, it'd be nice to see it extended to more airlines.

Partnership providing convenient links from Birmingham International to London & Manchester

On the back of bmi regional’s recent announcement to establish a new base at Birmingham with services to Graz, Gothenburg and Nuremberg, bmi regional is partnering with Virgin Trains to add a train travel booking facility to its website, making it easier for customers to travel beyond Birmingham International, located directly at Birmingham Airport and the NEC connecting the airline’s new routes with Virgin Train’s extensive high-speed train network to the wider UK.

Partnership providing convenient links from Birmingham International to London & Manchester
I agree. I have always thought that the airlines, railway companies and particularly the airport itself have ever
fully exploited the rail link.A lot of people only associate it with the NEC.
Isn't it a bit ironic how HS2 is being used as a catalyst for airport expansion but in the 30+ years since the station was opened i cannot recall a campaign to tell people from the wider catchment area from how accessible the airport is either directly or with one change.

No photo's from me I'm afraid although I did see it on approach.

Bmi Regional Returns To Birmingham Airport With Launch Of Route To Graz

Bmi regional proudly returned to Birmingham today with the launch of its new flight from Birmingham to Graz, Austria. It is the only direct flight from the UK to Austria’s second city, exclusive to bmi regional and Birmingham Airport.

The twice weekly service was welcomed to its new hub at Birmingham Airport by a water arch and was greeted in Graz by a traditional Austrian brass band.

The service, which is the latest development in bmi regional’s ongoing growth strategy to provide connectivity between key regional business destinations in Europe, will operate on Mondays and Fridays initially before increasing to four times weekly from next month. Fares on the route start from just £99 one way.

Graz is Austria’s second largest city, lying on the River Mur and coincidentally twinned with the Midlands city of Coventry.

Graz was added to the list of UNESCO world heritage sites in 1999, thanks to its unique landscapes and attractions which include:

  • Schlossberg and the Clock Tower which can be ascended by funicular railway.
  • Projekt Spielberg – Red Bull’s home of motorsports and the venue of Austria’s F1 race, MotoGP and DTM, to name but a few. Here visitors can enjoy fine dining, luxury hotels, driving experiences, golf and spa treatments 365 days a year, plus much more for those seeking adrenalin-filled experiences.
  • Steirische Weinstrasse: a wine region which is also known as the Austrian Tuscany.
  • Thermenregion: a spa area home to nine thermal spas, each offering their own unique take on the healing thermal waters of the area.
  • Golf: Graz is home to 10 courses including six 18 hole courses, one of them a championship course.
  • Graz is also a superb gateway to some of Austria’s best ski resorts, including Schladming and the Dachstein region.
Graz will be bmi regional’s first destination in Austria.

Jochen Schnadt, Chief Commercial Officer for bmi regional said: "With this new connection between Graz and Birmingham, we are continuing to pursue our strategy of developing tailor-made products for business and leisure travel. We’re optimistic that the implementation of this link between Graz and Birmingham will be a success for our customers and stakeholders alike.”

Tom Screen, Head of Aviation Development at Birmingham Airport, said: “We’re delighted with the launch of bmi’s Graz route today. With Birmingham being the only UK airport offering flights to Graz, we are filling a gap in the market for business and leisure travellers alike to take advantage of a city break in this vibrant destination. Furthermore we’re excited to welcome bmi regional back to Birmingham and look forward to our passengers enjoying the airline’s excellent service, efficiency and value.”

The route is the first of three new destinations offered by bmi regional from Birmingham Airport. The airline will also be launching routes to Gothenburg and Nuremburg from May 2017, offering passengers from the Midlands exciting opportunities to experience new destinations in 2017.

All fares include complimentary in flight drinks and snacks, 23kg of hold luggage, allocated seating and speedy 30 minute check-ins.

Any news on the Arch of Triumph? BMI blue and white mixes with red and white of the Austrian flag?

Good to have BMI back at Birmingham. With a seasonal rerun of BA the clock has been wound back to accommodate our growth.

I didnt realise it was the ONLY UK link to Graz I thought FR did STN-GRZ. Good to see BMI back and strengthening their Midlands links.
