Great to see another new route from Eurowings, they are starting to get a nice little BHX operation now.

Do they have a Cologne operation ? Maybe they could start this route.

Eurowings do have an extensive CGN operation with flights to STN and MAN among others. Those are currently operated by Germanwings.

Germanwings tried and failed at BHX-CGN before the LH/EW merger, but the signs have been encouraging from Eurowings of late, so who knows, maybe they will give it another go sometime?

Eurowings inaugural Vienna flight now seems to be taking place tomorrow. Nothing is showing on FR24 or the BHX website for today. Was there a mistake or has it been postponed, since both the BHX press release and RoutesOnline had the date as the 26th?!

Although the press releases said the 26th I seem to remember it only ever being bookable from the 27th?

The comments from Mr Pearson are interesting.

Eurowings to Launch New Route to Salzburg from Birmingham

Less than twenty-four hours after celebrating its inaugural Birmingham-Vienna service, German low-cost carrier Eurowings, has announced it will launch another new route from Birmingham to Salzburg in December.

Already operating Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Vienna, the new Salzburg flight will operate twice weekly from the 9thDecember, catering for the ski community and city breakers.

All services are planned with an A320 aircraft configured to 174 seats.

The Salzburg flight schedule will be as follows:

Wednesday:

Arrive from Salzburg at 0900 / Depart Birmingham at 0940

Saturday:
Arrive from Salzburg at 1305 / Depart Birmingham at 1345

William Pearson, Aviation Director for Birmingham Airport, said: “It’s fantastic to see Eurowings expanding its list of routes from Birmingham Airport so rapidly.

“Salzburg is a great ski destination but also a great city break city which we are sure will make this route very popular indeed with our passengers all year round.”

Eurowings is headquartered in Cologne and serves a network of domestic and European destinations as well as some long-haul routes.

Ivan Orec, Network Development & Airport Relations Manager for Eurowings said: “We are pleased to add a new Salzburg route to our Birmingham schedule, which will operate twice weekly, every Wednesday and Saturday, starting from the beginning of December.

“We are also looking forward to bringing more ski passengers to Salzburg and offer them free of charge transport of their ski equipment.”

The Austrian city of Salzburg is most famous for being the home of Mozart and The Sound of Music. The Old Town is burrowed below steep hills and stands beside the Salzach River. The formidable cliff top fortress is surrounded below by buildings with graceful domes and spires and the mountains beyond give a stunning city backdrop. Visitors will find a growing arts scene, fantastic food, beautifully manicured parks, quiet side streets and strong classical music traditions.

Not quite sure what you are referring to there Ray.

If it's the sentence - Eurowings is headquartered in Cologne and serves a network of domestic and European destinations as well as some long-haul routes - it's not on quotation marks and therefore I don't think it's part of Mr Pearson's statement.
Or do you mean - Eurowings expanding its list of routes from Birmingham Airport so rapidly - indicating possibly more to come?

Regards

Kevin

Good to see. All year, perfect. Beautiful city. More to come I suspect, although I have no evidence, other than you launch a service on the back of launching another. Shows confidence.

Per PPRuNe - Hamburg is no longer available direct after June 11

Massive disappointment if they are dropping it, but looking back on recent developments there were plenty of signs indicating a downward spiral.

- EW transitioning to an Airbus fleet when loads weren't all that brilliant on the CRJ
- reduction to 3x weekly with different flight times on each day (detrimental to business travel)
- and finally the handing over of all the flights to Germanwings who previously oversaw the demise of the former LH route to Berlin Tegel...

So who could take this one over? Bmi Regional? Return for Flybe? Ryanair?! It would be typical of Ryanair if they started an EMA-HAM route

Yeah that would be a big loss for the airport to see Hamburg disappear but im sure somebody will pick it up.

Ryanair would be a good shout and they have talked about Birmingham to Germany before. I'm still not totally convinced about their growth at BHX but adding Hamburg would be a big sign that it's not purely about seeing off the competition.

Flybe could also give it another go.

A very outside chance but what about a based aircraft from Blue Air with Hamburg as a destination, similar to Liverpool?

Looks like the BHX-TXL christmas market flights have been took off sale. I think with the looming Air Berlin crisis, this aircraft will be better suited to serve all those lost routes out of Dusseldorf/Berlin Maybe ?

Makes commercial sense i suppose if you lived in Germany.

Eurowings are re-introducing the CRJ900 on multiple routes next summer including Birmingham and Manchester. Both will see 6x weekly CRJ flights from next March.

At the start I was concerned about their move to the A320 - to get decent loads on 3 daily flights seemed a tall order. Good to see they don't want to cut the frequency though.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
