In response to the earlier comment regarding lack of posts, may I firstly say I am an avid reader of the LBIA forum but don't get up to the airport and don't know enough to join in! My question is regarding visiting executive aircraft - do readers think that, as Leeds is one of the country's biggest cities and the second largest business city outside London (not forgetting Bradford, Wakefield, Harrogate, York etc) we seem to get a lot fewer visiting executive aircraft than Manchester, Liverpool and Neecastle? I know that these cities have Premier League football which attracts plenty visitors but surely for business aircraft LBIA would be more popular. Is it because we have high landing fees/handling charges or becasue, unlike Liverpool (and I think Newcastle) aircraft can't park on the main apron? Or am I wrong? views would be appreciated

Welcome from a fellow member, I'm sure you know enough to join in, it's making that first effort.
I, also, do not get up to LBA very often but I am fairly confident that they get their fair number of business movements

I The main issue with Leeds is that the bulk of their business is British banking, where there is little need for internal flying .

Im not sure about Newcastle, but Liverpool and Manchester have higher numbers of international business, either in the form of international companies themselves, or, British companies that do business abroad.

Obviously, the football helps, there were 18 business jets from around the world alone at Manchester on Saturday.

I'm happy to report biz jet movements seem quite healthy these days. Especially so after the multiflight hangar development in the early 2000's. It seemed to created the space required with a dedicated apron, arrivals/departures area and larger hangar.

I'm lucky enough to vist the hangars quite often as we have dealings with the corporate 733 based. Everytime I'm there both hangars are bursting at the seems with based and visiting biz jets! There were even talks not too long ago of increasing the size of the site with more apron and hangar space.

As the Leeds city region grows, LUFC return to the promised land and business prospers this will certainly be an area to watch for sure!

Welcome Keith - great to read your post.

LBA787 and user001 are right about major sporting events having a positive bearing on fights and passenger numbers at airports and not just with bizjets.

As an example Cardiff Airport had 1.057 million passengers in 2013 but over 11,000 of them were for sporting events on ad hoc flights, mainly rugby and football related: Six Nations rugby; Cardiff City and Swansea City both in the Premier League; Pro12 rugby union league that involves Welsh, Scottish and Irish clubs.

If LUFC can get back to the Prem that will certainly be another boost for LBA.

LBA757 I am sure you expected this one ! it is more likely Leeds United will return to the first division than the premier league based on recent pathetic results , more is the pity !!

Well if Mr Cellino fails in his bid, that is one less biz jet we can expect, as I believe he has his own and has already been into LBA a few times. If he moved to Leeds, (as he said he would) it may well have become a resident of LBA.

I'd support them anywhere A300boy!

Hears hoping for better future results though.... :clapping:

Watching LUFC may provide rather dull football at times, but its never dull off the pitch! It's Sport Relief day at work today and I am sitting here in my LUFC Strongbow kit! Nobody else is though. Strange that! :whiteflag:

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
