Does DSA market itself as 'Yorkshire's favourite airport'? I noticed the airport MD used the term twice in his comments.

I wonder how he arrived at that conclusion

Hmm...I`ve long been suspicious of Which? and its opinions..But, unsuprisngly its going to get good reviews because it handles very few passengers and pro rata very few flights. When you don`t get volume, you don`t get as much disruption. You don`t have multiple aircraft being handled at the same time. However what they don`t crow about is the fact that you, the passenger, have a limited set of routes, usually at eye watering prices with limited passenger facilities in the terminal..
Unless of course they`ve been dip sampling the freight...Thats very popular, so they tell me..

With the news today that DSA will reopen sooner rather than later this strikes me as a perfect opportunity for Jet2.

A complete blank canvas, Jet2 could strike a deal with the councils that will be operating the airport, get in there before anyone else, and make it their home.

Moving the home base down to DSA would offer so much more potential to grow and really take a hold of the market, providing more space to develop on as well as better facilities already in place. At a much better located and more modern airport without the restrictions of LBA, and potentially huge financial advantages that would come with striking a deal.

In essence they could do what they wanted with the region.

I know some of the LBA supporters on this forum won’t particularly like the idea, but financially and logically this makes so much sense.

Give them a call and tell them how they should do their business, I’m sure they’ll appreciate your advice.

89LS, I don't know where you get your information from about DSA being open sooner than later as it has just been reported on Look North (East Yorkshire) that a final vote, to release the money, has to be taken later in the year.
They were interviewing people in Hull, all saying they would use it if it was open. The only problem is, there are not enough people with this opinion.
When well regarded Aviation Consultants- York Aviation - say that it is not feasible, please take note. Don't believe the politicians they know very, very little on how to run an airport. It may be a good idea to ask them how much of their own money they are going to contribute.
Please take a reality check.

I don’t agree with 89LS’s view point, but they are entitled to a view and to place it in the forum and for differing view points to be discussed. We should be welcoming new members and contributors, not asking them to take a reality check.

@HX3 I am sorry but I am with @Seasider on this. @89LS is completely deluded with his opinion and does indeed need a reality check, however much he/she is entitled to a view. It’s just one that is totally unrealistic
He came here with his view and placed it on the LBA forum rather than in the dedicated DSA forum. Nobody has prevented @89LS from sharing his views and if anybody else shares his views they are also welcome here to contribute to the forum too.

I get that it was in the wrong forum, and as I mentioned I certainly don’t share their view. The post read new member, so sometimes people aren’t familiar with where things should go and guidance, rather than criticism may be more helpful.
I also feel we can disagree without being personal. I read lots of things on the forum where I feel people are overly invested that they become less than objective, but I either politely disagree with my comments, or l let it go.

Yes it's good to have new members and they are entitled to express their views. His post relating to Jet2 leaving LBA, their original and home base, and moving lock stock and barrel to a rejuvenated DSA, was either posted in the LBA forum through ignorance, or it was a mischievous and provocative post. To me it felt like the latter.
Perhaps he will come back and clarify for us??

Maybe not!

We see a lot of posts regarding Jet2 posted in the LBA > Jet2 thread, whereas they should be posted in the Worldwide Airlines Forum > Jet2.com thread, as the information is relevant to more UK airports than just LBA. So, you can hardly criticise @89LS for posting in the LBA > Jet2 thread.

I wasn't aware that I did criticise him for posting in the LBA forum so why quote my post? It's the content of the post that in my view was provocative.

Others have pointed out that it was posted in the wrong thread . If you check out my original response, I never mentioned that as an issue (although I agree it should have been posted where it is now).

I think with everything going on the last couple of days, not really on here but on the wider news, some of us have been poised for mischief making. I would welcome any opposing views on here, such as the one posted by 89LS. There may be cause for debate, because if the airport does reopen then there is a high likelihood that the operator will be targeting the UK’s leading leisure operator. They have a package that sells and is popular with people in South Yorkshire, Humberside and Lincolnshire. It’s not impossible that they’ve reached a level of established maturity now that would allow them to put four aircraft in DSA and still maintain the levels of service at EMA and LBA. It might be unlikely, but actually none of us really know, I doubt even people in Jet2 know just now as you can’t plan to fly from a closed airport!

But moving out of LBA lock stock and barrel? Nope, that’s just silly at the moment.

Don't make me laugh, maybe time to educate yourself on catchment areas/financial areas/ why on earth would an airline up sticks from one of the UKS largest cities to Doncaster hahaha

the ironic thing is if somebody posts one negative / goes against the grain on the DSA page they jump down your throat and attack every airport in the UK apart there perfect DSA.. they dont listen to anybody else educated opinion. Last time Monarch was going into DSA hahahah, couldnt make it up. give it a rest. DSA opening is a joke (if it ever does re-open) and which airline will want to take the financial and operational risk at going back when it will shut in a couple of years due to Zero traffic..

There are clearly and quite rightly some very strong views from a lot of people here, myself included. But I think it's time for us all just to take a step back here to ensure debate doesn't get out of hand, and also not too personal. And yes I am again including myself here. The facts will eventually speak for themselves and ultimately the vast majority of us know what that outcome will be

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
