Muddycoffee,

I agree a lot in the media leaves a lot of info to be desired, however given the handling contracts are signed and flights viewable in a preview of airline systems, there is a least some elements of truth to the story, even if the paper is questionable in some stories.

Perhaps this shows the influence of the Sheffield City Region's LEP which has been lobbying for business services for some time.

Another new route commencing in June has just been announced. This is a 2X weekly Wizzair offering to Riga.

Wizzair has announced new routes to Riga and Bucharest...the latter makes DSA the first regional airport to serve Rumania's capital.

Wizzair have been an outstanding airline for Doncaster airport. Clearly there's enough business with Eastern Europeans from the South Yorkshire airport.

Mondays are usually the quietest day in the winter schedule with only 6 movements. So far as I can see, there was just 1 additional movement that day...This coming Friday sees the start of the new Linksair services....I imagine there will be lots of finger crossing down Finningley way! ;)

Well, the service started yesterday and a bit of a fuss was made in Belfast...all Sheffield could muster in its local paper was a short press release and a picture...but not of the aircraft!

That's disappointing considering the airports long-standing claim to wanting scheduled business type services. You would expect the airport authority would be throwing as much weight behind it has they can.

With the continuing financial losses the Airport is making I doubt there is too much in the coffers to spend on this sort of thing.....At least it was marked. What remains to be seen is the take-up from local business. One businessman I know laughed at the suggestion of flying in a "little aeroplane when I can fly in something bigger from the other airports that I[Sheffielders] can use". Let's hope his view is that of a minority! ;)

As discussed else where in the forum BMI Regional have applied for government start up aid to operate flights between Doncaster Sheffield and Frankfurt.

What is the local fraternity opinion on the potential for a Frankfurt link? At this stage it's still nothing more than a wish list for Bmi Regional, but it would be a massive coup for Sheffield Doncaster Airport if they do manage to pull this off.

I'd prefer a smaller hub destination like this rather than Schiphol. Some of those large airports are an awful experience for a passenger making a connection.

I may have missed something here but is bmi regional considering a smaller hub destination? Which one?

I would have thought that FRA (it's busier than AMS with about 60 mppa compared to around 53 mppa) would be a great choice especially if bmi regional can arrange a code share with Lufthansa as it does on some of its Bristol-Germany routes (FRA and MUC).

Frankfurt was one of the destinations that Gill Airways was prposing from Sheffield City. All that was before 9/11 which saw the demise of Gill and the start of the rapid demise of SCA. I think a code share would be essential if Frankfurt was to be considered as a Hub from DSA.

I flew to Frankfurt last Friday and we landed on 25R and it took us 12mins to taxi to stand.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
