Thanks for the link Kevin. However, the figures for Edinburgh must be wrong as the rolling year is shown as down 1.5% and below BHX.

Hopefully the CAA will go back to publishing the numbers on a monthly basis.

These statistic releases have become an embarrassment for an organisation like the CAA.
Either do the job properly or don't do it at all.

I have to agree that it put's the CAA in a bad light, but I wonder what is happening behind the scenes?
A while ago, The Local Yokel said that he'd heard that the delay was down to an EU regulation, regarding verification of the figures. I just wonder if some airports are dragging their heels, with regard to this. Has the CAA put up with this for several months, then issued an ultimatum that if the verifiable figure are not in by a certain date, the tables would be published with data missing from the offending airports?
If the September figures were set as the point at which these regulations would be put in place, does that explain why September's figures have been published, whilst August's haven't?
The puzzling aspect to all of this, is that many airports report their monthly passenger figures quite promptly (although they don't give a full route by route breakdown).

Just my thoughts.

The Madrid stats are astonishing – over 19,000 passengers in August, more than MAN even.

I thought two carriers was too many at first and then I think most of us thought Monarch would get annihilated on this route, but Monarch are back next year, and I'd be very surprised if Norwegian don't return too after they got some great loads on an A332.

Hi there ray and all, why does the airport management at Birmingham keep saying again and again, 11,500,000 million passenger handled, we could quite easily deal with double that amount, that's 23 million passengers, so if the airport can handle that amount, where have those passengers disappeared to then..Andyc

They've disappeared only in the sense that other airports (mainly LHR and LGW) are handling passengers on routes that could potentially operate out of BHX. There's a number of regional airports who have the ability of handle to a lot more passengers but airlines need convincing that to fly to Britain does not necessarily mean having to fly to LHR or LGW only, or to believe that if you fly into one airport it does not mean you will find it difficult to operate similar routes from an airport 50 to 70 miles away.

And David also knows a lot of BHX catchment go up the M6 to Manchester and have done for many years.
Basically Manchester invested in their airport when Birmingham did'nt, fair pay to them and building a second runway for £172m was a great move.
BHX are no playing catch up and having some success but people from the Midlands seem happy to traveL north or South to fly and this what BHX need to change.
BHX will never catch MAN pax wise but i think the 11.5m / 25.5m split should be more like 20.0m / 30.0m

Don't forget the the over reliance for whatever reasons on British Airways. This seemed to stunt growth for many years. It could be argued the airport has done well to maintain its passenger figures and now start to grow them after the lose of by far it's biggerts arline at the time.

Hi there ray and all, regarding my earlier post about Birminghams passenger numbers, from what the airport says that it can handle, to what it's handling at present, I think regarding growth at Birmingham is going great, but to achieve the levels that bhx management want is going to take years and a long time to achieve twenty three million passengers in the next twenty years at least or more, but if you want to look at great success story, then look no further than at Manchester Airport, their structure and planning is the type of system that Birmingham needs to adopt if it constantly wants consistent growth maintained for the next thirty years plus, for instance landing fees of charges play a major factor in any airline choosing or wanting to fly from an airport, so if Manchester Airport is charging £1,845 for any aircraft size to land and take off, then per passenger of £5.50 in summer and £6.00 in the winter, and is able to secure airlines with this kind of deal, then you come to Birmingham airport that charges £4,000 per aircraft to land and take off, then £11.50 per passenger, or as Mr Kehoe reply to me sometime last year, it depends on load factor of £10.00 of per part tonne, or I'm intrigued to know why you are asking me for this information, then you wonder why Manchester is more successful than Birmingham airport is...Andyc

AndyC, don't forget MAN sits in the middle of Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester 4 of the biggest urban conurbations in the UK and is very much the de facto gateway for them, this gives MAN a huge catchment area.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
