Very early days so pretty hard to read much into it, but applying the average rolling 12 months growth to our 2016 pax numbers, this gives us a 2017 projection of 13,385,000 pax for 2017….

With the addition of four based Jet2 units plus BMI it could very well be more. Given AA is the only casualty of 2017 so far it's certainly looking good.

There was a bit of a debate on another forum about why UA had chosen today to issue a press release about 20 years @ BHX and whatnot as there didn't seem any huge relevance, it's not the anniversary, etc.
I'm now sitting here idly wondering (hoping?) that it's "getting in first" before an announcement of a new service going westbound?
Drift. Sorry.

It certainly is a possibility. When American pulled out, PK was fairly optimistic about a new carrier taking their place.

On the other hand aviation (and everything in general really) tend to make a bigger deal out of anniversaries than they used to. Its now more celebrating the year of the anniversary rather than the actual date.

Fingers crossed though that it's a good sign.

Wow, the increase for Jan. 2017 over Jan. 2016 was 107,443. We must be heading for easily >13m this year. Well done BHX.

Has anyone seen a list of what improvements they're making at the moment please? I remember the heady days of those A5 airport update brochures showing such plans as the satellite circular building accessed by a sub-apron tunnel. Wish they still did that now! (when I have time I will try to upload one)

Some good numbers there although Turkish are having a terrible time at the moment (BHX -31, MAN -32, EDI -33 and LGW -46).

It's good to see three long haul airlines in the top 20, along with Sofia and Madrid both of which were unserved not too long ago.

I wish they would sort out the Air India figures. But i will not hold my breath.
Me too! It always makes the Birmingham - India figures look bad, when in fact there is substantial growth.
To get a true valuation, it's necessary to combine the Delhi and Amritsar figures and compare with the same combined figures from the previous year.
This seems to be the only route on which the CAA does this. Are they trying to belittle BHX's India connections? If so, why?

They aren't. The breakdown would have come from AI in that they are selling 2 destinations at BHX namely Delhi and Amritsar. To slant all the passengers onto 1 route may cause a few awkward questions as to why they are serving the other destination. Does BHX have any other routes where 1 airline operates to 2 destinations within the same country but operating on the same flight number?

For Turkish, it may also be a bit relevant to see the frequency drops alongside the passenger drops. 5 less flights a week at MAN or down 26%. The 32% drop doesn't seem that bad.

Turkish have also reduced BHX frequency due to events in Turkey, hence the drop in passenger numbers. Air India is doing amazingly well and showed a significant increase in passengers on January 2016 (+22.5%) with a LF of 88.7%. A real sucess story for Birmingham Airport. The figures prove that with an a 51/49% split between Delhi and Amritsar in January that its not just the British Sikh VFR traffic visiting Amritsar, as some commentators here and on other forums would have us believe, it's travellers/businessmen and women visiting the Indian capital and its onward connections too. :woot:
There are some great increases on those domestic routes too. On the downside Ski flights have had some light loads though snow has been a little thin on the ground in parts of Europe this season I beleive.

Yes it does make me laugh when posters on other forums suggest BHX is lucky to have Air India becouse of our large VFR indian population. As you have pointed out a very successfull route all round. :)

Load factors are always very interesting but recently do not seem to appear on forums as regularly as they used to if at all.
Am i looking in the wrong place or is it getting to complicated and time consuming for people to calculate?

Of course load factors are not the be-all and end-all it's what people are paying that counts but of course airlines keep this information close to their chests. So it's the only indication we as enthusiasts have as to how any route is performing. For me the most important thing is this flight is being used to connect to Delhi and not only VFR traffic for Amritsar. If load factors were the only indicator it suggests that separate DEL and ATQ could operate independently of each other and that maybe other Indian destinations such as BOM could work ex BHX.

Load factors are posted on my group - https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/bhxnews
First number is Jan 17 Pax then Jan 16 pax then pax per flight and finally load factor

I had a look through the CAA Stats last night and noticed that Cluj is not included. It would have been nice to see how it did in it's first full month.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
