Picking up a French friend on Friday who is arriving on Flybe from Paris. Also hoping to head out to France myself later this year, not sure exactly where yet :)

While I could understand people being put off after recent events I still think Nice is a lovely place to visit, the old town is great to explore and you could also include a quick hop to Monte Carlo too.

Thanks for the suggestions :)

I'm looking for accommodation with friends over there so at the moment I can see myself either staying in Bordeaux or in a village near the Pyrenees, which would mean a flight to Toulouse.

Just about to board TK1968.Busy at the check in 50 mins or so to get my luggage cleared but very quickly through security.

Friday, March 16, and French air traffic controls permitting, will board AF1565 from BHX to Paris at 1945 and then transfer to AF442 at 2352 for Rio de Janeiro. After arriving at approx 0710 will take the leisurely local bus down to the city's other airport Santos Dumont and find a good boteca in Lapa district for an early lunch and a litre bottle of Brahma. Then its a flight for Sao Paulo before changing planes yet again for an early evening flight to Goiania in central Brazil.
All being well and air traffic problems notwithstanding, I should be arriving in the state of Goias just in time for my birthday on the 18th.... Hip hip hooray!

Hi Ray, just an update on my last trip into central Brasil. Everything went fine on the way out: BHX, Paris, Rio then change airports for Sao Paulo and finally Goiania.

But three days before my return i received an email from KLM to say my flight back to Ams had been cancelled - up the Amazon without a paddle!!!!

KLM's email confirmed their responsibility to get me back safely to the UK with promises of hotel accommodation, taxis, food etc if i needed them. However, within six hours i received confirmed flight details from them of a return to BHX with Lufthansa via Frankfurt. In addition to the email i was also in contact with the airline via Facebook. We hear and read horror stories of passengers stranded, but KLM could not have acted more professionally - and i only arrived in BHX just 20 minutes later than originally planned.... In addition to

And there was a slight bonus. The Frankfurt flight left half-an-hour later than the cancelled Ams flight so i had a little bit more time to get to Rio International Airport from Santos Dumont Airport in Rio when my Gol flight from Sao Paulo landed.

All-in-all an experience and just as well i had the technology with me to receive the emails and messages from KLM. A must when you are in the centre of Brasil - or indeed the 'wilds' or any other country or continent.

Finally, after checking in at Rio International i did go to the KLM desk and ask what had happened. Apparently the 787 scheduled for that flight had gone tech and they did not have an alternative plane available.

Glad you enjoyed your trip despite the eventful return, definitely a big thumbs up for technology there (y)

Also well done to KLM and only 20 mins behind schedule is a great result :)

Hey All,

Took the AM Turkish out of Birmingham to Dalaman via Istanbul yesterday. 6 in J and probably half to two thirds full in Y. A nice surprise awaited me on the IST-DLM sector......a very empty A333 TC-JOB. Only two of us in J out of 28 and half full in Y. Was told the rtn sector was full. Nice ride anyway.
Also took the Easyjet from BFS to BHX the day before that. Two thirds full if that!!

Cheers

Karl

Usual FlyMayBe farce this morning, 45 minutes late due to "a crew member being delayed" but otherwise nice, smooth and uneventful over to Jersey, and 100% LF after all!

As for BHX, top marks from me again, security was rammed but all lanes open and me and my laptop were through in 10 minutes. Now for the return journey...

Nothing to report on the return really, uneventful, no bags or immigration to contend with, 57 on the flight, if you like that kind of thing.

Eurohub (which now appears to be called "South Terminal", missed that memo) needs a lick though...

When did that happen, So we now have a North Terminal and a South Terminal ??

Well, who can say?!
It's not on any signage but it's clearly marked on bits of gear like airstairs, so maybe it's "internal use only"?

Mmmmmmmmm maybe, one to keep an eye out. I must admit i would rather they call them different things as they are clearly not the same terminal. I think its more confusing to call the 2 buildings one terminal.
Yeah i would be ok with North and South Terminal or maybe the Blues Terminal and Villa Terminal

Would show we are a premier airport.Oh hang on....

It's been like that since they became one building but I don't think that they're called north and south terminals, just north check in, south check in, north departure lounge and south departure Lounge.

Why they just didn't keep T1 and T2 I'll never know.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
