Aer LIngus did this Dublin hub with US immigration clearance thing from LBA in the past when they operated from LBA and it did well at the time. Not sure why exactly they gave up on LBA but it certainly wasn't anything to do with passenger figures at the time - more a policy decision to concentrate on particular airports I think.

Dublin Airport is delighted to welcome Aer Lingus Regional’s new service to Leeds Bradford Airport, operated by Stobart Air.The service will operate two daily return flights between Dublin and Leeds and is expected to carry over 70,000 passengers in the first year.
