Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I've given up trying to book a JFK flight with them and have gone back to BA. The website is still not letting you book transfers through Dublin.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I would have thought that the biggest advantage of using Aer Lingus to DUB was the ability to transfer to transatlantic flights and customs clearance. I can't see the point of operating the service without this.
They would have been better to announce when the booking system was in place. :s_dunno

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Considering that the new Aer Lingus route was announced back on 2nd Sept, and with all the references to onward USA connections, it is pretty poor that you still cannot book these on the website. The only bookable option remains LBA-DUB.

I find it hard to believe that whatever the issue is, it could not be fixed before now, nearly 2 weeks after the route announcement.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Looks like the website issue has now been fixed. It's offering me LBA-DUB-JFK flights anyway.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Aer Lingus appear to have started a radio advertising campaign - I hear their ad regularly today on Heart FM, where, incidentally, Monarch continue to advertise their flights from LBA and Flybe are also advertising their new shuttle route through LBA.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I don't see why it shouldn't succeed but an earlier "variety " also offering Dublin as a hub didn't last long down at Doncaster.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Very little down at Doncaster does last if the truth be told other than Thomson and Wizz.

Aer LIngus did this Dublin hub with US immigration clearance thing from LBA in the past when they operated from LBA and it did well at the time. Not sure why exactly they gave up on LBA but it certainly wasn't anything to do with passenger figures at the time - more a policy decision to concentrate on particular airports I think.

I seem to recall Ryanair retaliating fiercely offering up to 4 flights daily at one point?

Yeah I agree White Heather, If I remember rightly Aer Lingus only pulled out of Leeds/Bradford due to the airline axing regional routes which were operated by the Aer Lingus "Commuter" fleet off Fokker 50 & BAe 146 aircraft. These aircraft were withdrawn from service because at the time Aer Lingus was struggling finically. They nearly went bust but under new management they lived to tell another tail.
Anyway after the pullout the very next day British Airways citi express took over the Leeds/Bradford-Dublin route (which carried an Aer Lingus codeshare) and operated it 4x daily using a Leeds based BAe Jetstream 41's which was up against 3x daily Ryanair Boeing 737-200 service.

What happened next well that’s another story. British Airways pulled out of most UK regional flying and in doing so closed its Leeds/Bradford base in late 2002 I think. Eastern Airways bought the BAe Jetstream 41 fleet of aircraft for a minimal sum and took over the Leeds/Bradford to Aberdeen, Southampton & Isle of Man routes along with other's whilst British Airways citi express routes from Leeds/Bradford to Dublin, Bristol and London Gatwick were lost. How times have changed! Who back then would have thought British Airways would make a return to Leeds/Bradford operating flights to London Heathrow rather than having British Midland?

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

I have just been looking at flights to Dublin and noticed these are already showing up as sold out. Looks to be a very promising start if this is the case and not just a website glitch.

LBA -DUB Fri 24th Oct
DUB-LBA Sat 25th Oct

These are dates in the initial period when only one rotation per day exists.

The prices around these dates seem high but that could be more to do with the short notice pricing strategy than sold seat numbers.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Leedsman, I was just about to post the same. I just tried a booking from Leeds to San Fransisco on the 24th and it was sold out. I then checked Leeds to Dublin to make sure it wasn['t just the Dublin - San Francisco sector that was full, and that was shown as Sold Out too.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

LBA website strikes again!!! I guess they need to find the Aer LIngus symbol for the arrivals board.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

Hi Bigman ! could you elaborate on what you mean ? Is the flight from Southampton later this afternoon the first Stobart Air arrival ?

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

With it now ! Its tomorrow they start and you are pointing out after all this time there is no Aer Lingus Decal.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

That's the phrase I was looking for. Still no decal on the board for this afternoon. It did get a mention on the Look North bulletin this morning.

Re: Aer Lingus (Stobart Air)

The Aer Lingus logo has finally made an appearance on the LBA website

I understand yesterdays and today's flight were both full. Read the following press release from Dublin Airport and it states that Aer Lingus regional has over 5,000 seat booked already since the route was launched last month.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
