Maybe an A319 or even A320 would not be completely unreasonable in time because Ryanair manage it with 738s and Dublin is such an important connection.

The problem with that is that there is nothing in size between the Stobart ATR72 and the Aer Lingus A319. It is surely too big a jump in the number of seats available to be of use.

Is that not the standard misconception we've become all too used to here at Leeds with our airport punching well under it's weight? I don't think moving from an ATR72 to an A319 is such a big jump for one of Leeds' more popular routes. Having said that, I don't think Stobart Air have any other type of aircraft even if they wanted to increase the size of aircraft.

Actually that is a point, it would need to be handed over to Mainline.
But if the baggage is a real issue maybe they should consider.

Something else we need to consider with this route is with the opening of US immigration pre-clearance facilities at Manchester and Heathrow airport in the not too distant future, the advantage of travelling via Dublin to speed up the clearance process will no longer be worthwhile with the same pre-clearance facility available here in the UK. On the plus side for LBA is it could benefit our British Airways Heathrow connection.

I thought that one of the big pluses of travelling across the pond via Dublin is that you are travelling in the right direction. If you go via AMS, you are travelling an hour East to come back an extra hour West. Same with LHR, ie travelling South to come all the way North again. Shame we can't get Icelandair!!

Now I A G have completed the purchase of Ryanair's Aer Lingus shares enabling them to take over Aer Lingus, surely this puts B A's interest in LBA up a notch. It offers far more options for BA domestic routes with the LHR slots released.
Surely is going to make Dublin a more important clearence window in the group, taking the pressure off LHR.

I have just seen on another forum a report that Aer Lingus will reduce flights to Dublin to once daily during the winter months whilst increasing flights to two a day between Ema and Dublin.
Do we know if this is correct as I thought they were happy with the loads they were getting from Leeds.

The Aer Lingus, Stobart Air operated Leeds/Bradford - Dublin route remains operated 2x daily (Sun to Fri) and 1x daily (Sat) this winter 2015/16 season. All you had to do is check the date of the post you've read on the other forum to note it was posted way back in April before the full winter schedule was uploaded onto the Aer Lingus website.
Now after doing a little research, I have checked both the Aer Lingus website timetable and looked to see what's available to book, its system is showing the following details.

From Dublin to Leeds
EI3390 - 0640 / 0740 = MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI, SAT
EI3392 - 0900 / 1015 = SUN
EI3394 - 1415 / 1525 = TUE
EI3394 - 1605 / 1715 = MON, THU, FRI, SUN
EI3394 - 1710 / 1820 = WED

From Leeds to Dublin
EI3391 - 0815 / 0930 = MON, TUE, WED, THU, FRI, SAT
EI3393 - 1040 / 1150 = SUN
EI3395 - 1550 / 1705 = TUE
EI3395 - 1740 / 1855 = MON, THU, FRI, SUN
EI3395 - 1845 / 2000 = WED

By way the Aer Lingus, Stobart Air operated Dublin - East Midlands service was reduced from 2x daily to 1x daily operation this summer season, this was actully before the first flights started. Meanwhile it looks like the Airlines Dublin - Doncaster route will also operate 5x weekly over the winter season.

Great news, and I have seen rumours on other forums suggesting there may be another announcement shortly, although no clues given as to what. Hopefully this route will do well enough to encourage an increase up to a daily, or each weekday + Sunday service. It will be the first time ever that Aer Lingus have operated a route out of LBA other than Dublin.

Great news! I seem to recall Aer Arann used to get good numbers when they flew previously to Cork with ATR72's. Three times a week is a sensible frequency to launch, with scope to increase over time if does well.

I'm optimistic Stobart will do well with this route. The strong Aer Lingus brand, together with improving economy and lower fuel prices will hopefully give it a decent opportunity to become established.

Well I see it didn't take long for the airport to announce the new Aer Lingus Leeds/Bradford - Cork route today. They have updated both there twitter and facebook accounts advertising it on the airports website and even got an Press Release out.

Aer Lingus Regional Announces new route from Leeds Bradford® to Cork

Monday 7th December 2015: Stobart Air, Irish airline and operator of Aer Lingus Regional, has today announced an important new route from Leeds Bradford® Airport to Cork in SW Ireland commencing on 15th March 2016.

Leeds Bradford® warmly welcomes this news and it is yet another positive indicator of the airport’s continued development as Yorkshire’s gateway airport as we look forward to another year of growth in 2016.

...and I thought Christmas would be nearer before the official stuff came out!!!

I seem to remember (please correct me if I am wrong) that the last time Aer Arann did Cork and Galway, a certain other Irish airline came in on Shannon and diluted the passenger figures somewhat to the extent that both routes were pulled (and ironically eventually the Shannon as well!). I do wonder if history may repeat itself and we may see Shannon back sometime soon??
