Re: WOWAir

wow due to start flights to iceland in may 2016. one way fares are 39 pounds.
there is onward connections to the states and canada from 99 pounds one way, with a lot more destinations to come on line at a later date.
this is the second destination into the uk for wow,the other being gatwick.
it makes you wonder if easyjet had wind of this as their flights seem to be stopping.

Re: WOWAir

Great news. WOW has an excellent brand and they specialise in onward connections to the States and Canada providing much needed links at an affordable cost.

Re: WOWAir

Excellent news, although cheap fares seem to be few and far between, especially for destinations other than Boston the single leg often costs more than a BA return flight if booked now!

Very nice promotion on their website though, even if they seem to have trouble locating Bristol, they're putting it around Bournemouth on the map:

Completely unexpected and has the potential to do very well. WOW is virtually unknown in the area (I must admit I knew next to nothing about them and I do have some interest in civil aviation) and the route will need a lot of publicising.

I wonder if easyJet will now return in winter 16/17. They are ceasing KEF next April despite their first year (2014) passenger numbers exceeding their publicly stated prediction, with 2015 well up on 2014 except for the past two months which have seen significant drops compared with the same months the previous year.

easyJet and WOW are different animals in one sense in that WOW has connections and transatlantic ones at that, although point to point between BRS and KEF will be available with WOW.

The timing at BRS (1010 arrival and 1100 departure) are also good in that they are at a quieter period at the airport which can be uncomfortably crowded at times although the recent expansion of the terminal and further expansion now taking place ought to ease that problem.

Excellent news though, especially as it's a new airline for BRS.

Strangely there is nothing on the Bristol Airport website or twitter feed about the new airline, destination or any reference to the Boston connection.

Maybe they are waiting for the grand opening of the Eastern Extension on Dec 17th, when royalty willbe present, to make the announcement.

There is now, on their website home page and on the airport's Twitter and Facebook pages.

On their web page news section (accessed via 'About Us' on the top right hand side of the home page) there was a full press release yesterday which later appeared in the Evening Post (or The Post as it now seems to want to be called) as a news item.

I'm really hoping this is a hugely successful venture by WOW to encourage similar services from other regional airports.

[textarea]WOW air launches £139 california flights from Bristol Airport

Low-cost airline to offer the cheapest transatlantic flights for travellers in South West England and Wales.

Icelandic low-cost airline, WOW air, today announced the launch of flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles from Bristol Airport via its Reykjavik hub.

Following the announcement in December that Bristol was to become WOW air’s second UK departure point for flights to Iceland and North America, tickets for flights to California beginning 13 June 2016 have gone on sale this week from just £139 one way.

Flights will depart Bristol Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, with all services providing the opportunity to connect onwards to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Passengers travelling to North America now also have the opportunity to add a stopover in Reykjavik to their travel itinerary, combining an American adventure with a short break sampling the natural wonders of Iceland.

Skúli Mogensen, founder and CEO of WOW air, said: “The addition of Los Angeles and San Francisco to our rapidly expanding network is a game changer for WOW air as we cement ourselves as the industry leader in the ultra-low-cost long haul category. We always aim to be the cheapest flight provider on the routes we fly to and with the £139 fare between the UK and California we have accomplished this once again.

“Our low fares and service with a smile have been integral to our success and we expect that these new routes, at this price, will continue to excite guests from the UK and leave them asking where WOW air will fly next.”[/textarea]

I don't think anyone has mentioned what aircraft type they will use? Will they start with A320s and then upgrade to A321s when they need to?

Marko1 posted the below in another thread recently.

Easyjet are re introducing Reykjavik from October. Twice weekly thurs and sun . I note wow have not launched their winter flights from Brs but have from other airports .
It will be a great shame if WOW feels unable to operate through the winter, which I assume was the original intention.

I have seen no advertising away from the airport. I know the route doesn't begin until May but people will already be looking to book their summer flights and WOW needs to be in the minds of the local public.

WOW made an initial impact in the local news media last year when it first announced its intention to operate from BRS but that's probably been forgotten by most people who are not interested in aviation for its own sake.

Wizz Air had a campaign that involved advertisements on local buses amongst other things before they began to operate from BRS last summer.

Still no winter availability on the WOW website. There is none for the Edinburgh departures either; only Gatwick of the UK airports has winter booking availability at the moment.
