That appears to be what happened before. WOW are in a stage of fast growth and holding onto potentially under performing routes is only going to hold them back. I think this one will be a case of wait and see how the rest of the summer
The snag with that as it was with the late summer announcement this year is that some people will have made alternative arrangements which will automatically reduce loads from their full potential if there had been a longer lead-in period.

Given that United are scaling back at bigger airports than BRS, and American have already done so, this sort of link is BRS's only hope for a scheduled transatlantic connection in the foreseeable future. How important it is given that KLM and Aer Lingus provide similar transatlantic links as do, to a lesser degree, Lufthansa (via bmir codeshare) and Brussels Airlines I don't know. It's always good to have more options but they have to be viable for the airline.

There has been much speculation for the past few days on a BHX thread as to which new airline or airlines is/are setting up there, including long haul on three routes across the Atlantic. It seems that some posters know what is going on but are not able to provide names publicly.

Many airlines have been put forward by BHX aficionados anxious to learn more with the latest being WOW. As I understand it the suggestion is that WOW would operate direct from BHX to North America without the need to change aircraft at Keflavik.

If the airline is WOW it would go a long way to understanding why BRS appears to have been dumped.

Addendum (19.7.17)

BHX thread now saying it's not WOW going there.

My thoughts with the atlantic route is norweigion,as they started taking delivery oy the 737 neo aircraft.

My intel believes that it's another US carrier pitching up, hence the reason why United have ran like the wind.

Looks like WOW Air won't be operating Cork after October due to poor loads. I'm wondering if this might help BRS as they'll need to utilise the aircraft somewhere and BRS is as good a place as any.

I'll be very surprised to see WOW at BRS this winter. easyJet will be back then (it now seems to regard Keflavik as a winter-only route) and transatlantic in winter is usually less well patronised than in summer, meaning two airlines competing mainly on point to point.

Maybe its as a result of the competition from Norweigan with direct 'New York' flights from Cork , something which Bristol doesnt have yet
Yes i have read that the Norwegian loads have been good while the WOW have been poor. It's possible then if BRS does ever get direct flights it might say goodbye to WOW.

Agreed but if that did happen i dont think anyone would shed any tears !

I know that one of our members speaks highly of them but they get some dreadful reports on Skytrax. By coincidence I was reading some earlier today, and looking at the last ten reports (dating from 1 August) eight awarded 1/10, one 2/10 and one 8/10.

Apart from the complaints about being charged heavily for everything on board (passengers knew this before they booked so I have no sympathy there) the main problems seem to be luggage going missing, flights seriously delayed or cancelled, with no help whatsoever at the airport when flights are cancelled.

Overall WOW gets 4/10 so some are obviously satisfied with higher marks to balance the many low ones. It seems the problem is that, when things go wrong with WOW, passengers are left largely to sort out their own problems.

Comparing like with like (ie paying for all the extras on WOW) I wonder how much cheaper the flights are (if they are) than KLM or EI via AMS and DUB.

It's a shame to lose an airline but I'd be far more concerned if the likes of KLM or EI pulled out.

Incidentally, this is typical of the airline industry. A new airline/new route is announced with fanfares and much publicity but when an airline pulls out they almost slink away in silence. Had you not enquired we'd still be wondering if they'd be back next summer. I wonder if easyJet will revert to a year-round KEF service now that they will have no point to point competition next summer.

I'm not suprised they wont be back as to a certain extent they were doing a little damage to EI & KLM on their services. Shame to loose any airline for what ever reason, but the problems they were having it gave no one any confidence to fly with them. Now if they were the best thing since sliced bread then I would worry why they leaving,if you have a good product then ppl will use them.Lets hope EasyJet goes back to yearly as pax numbers seem all right in one way or another.

I don't know what loads are like from Iceland to the Americas as not enough ppl that live in Iceland would fill the aircrafts. They rely on transfer pax for their loadings so I do wonder how the other europeon services get on. I think with the problems that the brs flight had in what ever way if I was CEO I would be worried. Time will tell.

It's difficult to know if WOW did do any damage to KLM and EI.

In the year 2016 DUB saw 399,094 passengers, up 6% on 2015, and in the first six months of 2017 DUB has seen 211,267 passengers, an increase of 12.3% on the same period in 2016.

The snag is that both EI and Ryanair operate the route and we don't know the split or how many BRS passengers flew transatlantic from DUB with EI.

AMS saw 408,570 in 2016, also up 6% on 2015, and in the first six months of 2017 AMS has seen 198,668 passengers, and increase of just 0.77% on the same period in 2016.

With easyJet also operating alongside KLM from BRS to AMS again we don't know the split or how many BRS passengers flew transatlantic from AMS with KLM.

Perhaps it's more pertinent to wonder what, if any, damage WOW did to easyJet on the point to point BRS-KEF. easyJet's programme next year might give us a clue.

Wow air have announced flights from Stansted today , maybe its a case of a straight swap from Bristol ?

I believe that STN might be daily.

Flight times are different. STN are evening flights as WW are creating a new bank of flights going West late at night

With the loss of Wow and their westbound passengers would it be a good time for KLM to increase their offering as has been rumoured before with either a 737 on the route or increase the schedule ?

I would have the time must be due for an increase in capacity on the Amsterdam route. Incidentally the route is growing but only by small percentages compared to others so it may suggest that demand is being squeezed by a lack of seats on offer ?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
