Eh? Like...what...shudder to think of the level of stupidity. Accelerate. Take off. Gear up. Climb. Turn. Fly.
"let's do it another way. Accelerate. Take off. Climb."
"Uh why wont it climb well?"
"Uh dunno."
"Oh well let's let's just keep going."
"Not very fast is it?"
"Nah but we are using a lot of fuel so it must be okay."
"Hang on we are not going to make it"
"Lets land down there then."
"Good idea."
"Final approach now. Gear down.....oh s....."

I remember going to see the DC8 when it visited Brum back in the 80's.
Having had a number of operations on my own eyes at a young age,I have enormous respect for the work of project Orbis. Those guys and girls do a lot of very worthwhile work all over the world.
What it must be like to be able to have vision after a lifetime of little or none at all must be an amazing feeling. Those with perfect or near perfect vision just don't know how lucky they are.
Yet to see the DC10 though.Has it ever visited the UK?

Don't know about the DC10. The model DC8 came with the DC10 but seeing as I have never seen it and has no link to Birmingham it will stay in the box. I know there are a couple of others in my collection that don't fit the criteria but most are not widebodies so don't take up valuable space

A wonderful photo Simon. Thanks for sharing (y)

One thing that stands out, is how tiny the engines look. Without doubt, state of the art in it's day but pales in comparison with today's technology. The airframe itself, I would guess is similar to an Airbus A321 (with possibly a greater wingspan - but then, its got to support two more engines). Imagine it fitted with just two of the engines from the current A321-NEO. It would take to the skies like a homesick Angel.
Having said all that, if I was offered one last chance to see a DC-8 at BHX, I'd jump at it!.

Regards

Kevin

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
