Still miss the Coca Cola sign.

I remember that eye that was watching over the city for a while :watching:

The top of the Rotunda really needs to be finished off by someone.

I think it is Alpha Tower Ray,

Do you mean the white building behind the casino? That may well be Quayside Tower, as it looked then, I think Alpha came a few years after this picture was taken?

I wondered what this building was?

Thanks for this Wolfheze.Have to keep going back to that Lightning take off.Unbelievable!
What year was this and when did it all go wrong.:)

Great video Wolfheze l am old enough to remember SkyWwatch but I can't recall it at all. I do remember seeing a lightning take off at Gaydon though and that climb out once seen never forgotten.

Year was 1974. Don't think that this video has the Salisbury Plain footage on it for some reason though.

I can also recall the lightning display at an airshow at Gaydon. I would have been about 10 years old. Seem to remember it pulling up into a vertical climb right over the crowd with full afterburner, the noise was incredible.

Did anyone ever see a Vulcan display?

Saw one once either at Bagington or Gaydon a fantastically agile machine for its size, think the idea was to allow it to escape the blast after it dropped the bomb -bit pointless really as wouldn't be much to come back to.

I saw a Vulcan at Baginton in the 80s(1982 I think).
It was an agile machine and a very impressive sight.
The aircraft were allowed to overfly the crowd in those days, and as the aircraft flew over, you could feel the power of it. There was a definite vibration in your chest as it flew over.
What I find sad now is that Coventry Airport (Baginton)may be living on borrowed time.
This is a site steeped in history and air shows used to be quite regular events.
I do hope that Coventry does have a future in aviation.

I saw Vulcans display many times. It was always awesome and it's characteristic howl is unforgettable.
In my teens, when the Cosford airshow was on we had a couple of occasions of the Vulcan holding over our house in Bloxwich whilst awaiting it's display slot.
Here are a few of my photos of XH558 taken more recently at Duxford -

I was fortunate enough to see the Vulcan, with the Red Arrows, at the RIAT Airshow back in 2015. You'd think one of the Red Arrow pilots got in the Vulcan by mistake the way they maneuvered it.

Unfortunately for Coventry Airport, with West Atlantic now moving to EMA, I feel it will essentially become a GA airport. I started my PPL at Coventry a number of years ago - brilliantly wide and long runway for learning to fly off :D

My first flight was in an Air Atlantique Dakota from Coventry in around 1987.
The company did many of these flights while they were in residence at Cov.
Unfortunately they no longer fly the Daks in that role,in fact do they still have an airworthy Dak?
Quite a big difference in watching the serene Dak get airborne and fly around Warwickshire almost without a care in the world. Then watching the brutal power of the Vulcan do its stuff overhead.
Quite inspirational!!

Hang on wolfeze, but pink green and yellow do not look good together. :bucktooth::artist::kiss:

Great to see the collection still expanding. Do you have enough space?

Tristar added to the courtline fleet
I always liked the Court Line colour scheme, whichever aircraft it was applied to.
I recall seeing Court Line Tristars at Luton on more than one occasion. One such occasion, we were flying out on a Britannia B737-200. The other, is a little more vague. Following my first flight as a six year old, my Dad must have seen a passion in me for aviation (He himself had been a steam train fan when he was 'just a lad' - and that interest lives on within me to this day)
Occasionally, following Sunday Lunch my Dad would announce 'I'm going to take Kev to the airport for the afternoon'. This would usually be Birmingham, or sometimes Manchester. I also seem to recall a one off trip to Luton, which may account for my other memories of Court Line Tristars there.

I also like the courtline schemes, was going to say they were innovative but I think Braniff beat them to it with their 'jellybean' colours?
Unfortunately my only memories of courtline were the headline news reports of their demise in 74 .

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
