Looks like there will be less green and more concrete :(

Whilst i agree with you about that Wolf, once you walk past the lovely green oasis you are faced with a load of concrete, in fact a concrete wastland just minuites from our city centre. HS2 and the redevelopment of Eastside is a game changer for our city.

And for anybody viewing from outside Bham that dirty square building on the left of the picture is the oldest
surviving railway terminus in the world. Built in 1838.
As you can see we care about our history but not much.

I'm always impressed with Bristol, TLY.
I occasionally work in Clifton by the Uni and the journey in and out never ceases to impress.
Rather than post this in the Birmingham thread, by coincidence I had decided to post something in the Bristol Random thread contrasting the approach of the local authority in Birmingham with that of Bristol when it comes to planning matters (based primarily on what I've seen and read in this thread in recent months regarding Birmingham and my own experience of Bristol).

Manzoni Gardens in 1966.

I can't believe how clean it looks :wideyed:

I have some hazy memories of this place from the late 80's.

There was definitely something quite special about watching that huge neon pint glass empty, then fill up again. Brew XI I think it was?

King Kong stood around for a while then went walk about to various location's I think he ended up on a car lot or something like that.

Perhaps they could commission another and put him on one of the new buildings, they just need a crane anyone know where to get one.

Does anybody know what the building in the background, just to the right of the John Bright Street Casino, was? It looks as if it was roughly where the Orion development now stands.

Blimey Brum was brutal at one point. Just about one of the worst open spaces imaginable. I once worked with an architect called Ivor Cunningham, lovely chap, who worked with Eric Lyon's. They were the pioneers of homes in a garden concept where the hard and soft landscaping blended so that the outdoor space became part of the living space, whether shared or private. Shame that Brum city council did not bring them in to design manzoni square.

Nonetheless, gladly the city now looks stunning, busy, youthful and smart....still some work to do, but...

I think it is Alpha Tower Ray, just looks a different angle from that pic but if you look closer you can see the curve on either end of the main tower.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
