Yes Happy New Year BHX fans. Consolidation, advance, post-March decline spurred by currency change, a 21st century station design emerging to link BHX and exciting opportunities for transport to and from the airport via metro/HS2? Who knows but let's enjoy fact/speculation as always on this wonderful site!

A decent read on major developments happening in Birmingham. The airport development does get a mention as well......

Certainly a lot going on and quite ambitious for tpositive but he City itself.

Positive article. I hope no would be investor reads the public comments that follow it. Either makes Brummies look like a right bunch of fools or outsiders trying to spoil the show.

Time to get behind a booming city not slag it off.

Thanks for posting Otis.

Excellent article, we have lots to look forward to (y)

I believe that the terminal extension works are scheduled to start next month?

Just read the BBC article on the perilous state of the Blues off the field:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46765090

Bloomin heck. There is little way back from this. Sorry state of affairs. Looks like someone went mad in summer 2017 with the salaries and transfers. Who was the manager then?

Zola and the fruitcake known as Harry are the men in question say no more nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Hate to bang on, but whilst the Blues maybe on the verge of ....whatever the cliff may be...the Mighty Moors go marching on. After this evening's results they are 3rd and only 3 points from Top! Can they do it and get into the EFL? It is fantastic for the team the investors and the town.

Could and would BHX sponsor them?

What's happening to Mr Abraham at Villa Park? Earlier this week there were reports he had not turned up for training with a loan to Wolves in prospect for the rest of the season. The Wolves move seems to have now been discounted and he is seemingly content to stay at Villa, but there is a report today suggesting that Crystal Palace now want him.

He needs to be tested again in the Prem - perhaps with Villa next season if they can sign him permanently. He scored goals aplenty for Bristol City in the Championship a couple of years ago and is doing the same for Villa. However, he was much less prolific in the Prem for Swansea although he was in a struggling side there.

The Tammy Abraham situation is one of many that puts me off football nowadays.
It appears that he could be staying at Villa, for now at least. Why he didn’t turnout for training on Monday, who knows??
My problem with modern football is that there is very little loyalty anywhere.
It would appear that Tammy was at least considering a move. However, why would you move, even if it is to a Premier League club, only to sit on the bench.
Let us be honest, there is no guarantee of a first team place on a regular basis for Tammy at Wolves, maybe the same at Palace as well.A player like that needs a regular run at that level to see how he copes with top level football. No good for him if he is only being used as a sub.He was lacking confidence when he arrived at Villa. It was only when Dean Smith came in and made some changes that we are now seeing what Mr Abraham has to offer. As a Villa fan I am pleased he is staying, because without him we have very little goal threat.
According to local radio last night, there is a FIFA rule, stating that a player can play for a maximum of three different clubs in any given season while out on loan.Tammy Abraham has played for Chelsea, his parent club,in the Charity Shield,Swansea City on loan, and now Villa on loan. The Wolves move seemingly was to be also a loan move apparently,so unless the move is a permanent sale deal, then if I understand it right, then Abraham can only either stay at Villa or go back to Chelsea.
It would be interesting to know if I have this right,as I was only half listening to the radio, and missed some of what was being said.It was round about the time the drone at Heathrow story was breaking,so I was more interested in that event.
I am more into International Rugby Union these days,I love going to Twickenham to see England play. When ‘Swing Low’,starts up when England are playing well,it brings a lump into your throat, and makes you feel proud.
The last time I felt like that with Villa was a certain Coca Cola cup win against Leeds in the mid 90’s.
Since then it has been disappointment after disappointment.Having said that,us Villa fans should be grateful,we could be ‘Blue noses’.

I think the rules allow up to three loans by the parent club so still one available but not totally sure, completely agree about player loyalty. Personally I much prefer cricket these days to footy and I am looking forward to England playing the West Indies this winter.

Good post Brummegem apart from the last five words we suffer enough lol.

Problem is rollo, our clubs have something in common. Financial Fair Play(FFP).
BCFC are waiting to hear if they are going to receive a points deduction because of past financial dealings. Villa may face something similar either at the end of this season or sometime next season ,depending on ,:1-Whether or not we get promoted, or,: 2-depending on expenditure between now and the end of the season. Both clubs could still get heavy fines anyway, something that will not help either clubs situation, particularly Blues.
The EFL, I believe is not fit for purpose. Making a team wait until well into a season before deciding on a punishment or whatever you want to call it is diabolical. These things should be decided in the close season, so clubs know how they can proceed with transfers and other dealings etc.
Something else I would change is transfers and changing of managers.
As far as transfers are concerned, i think all transfers should be made before the season starts. January I would allow for emergency loans only. This would prevent the plans of other clubs being scuppered by another club pinching important players at a crucial stage of the season.
For managers, although more complicated, i would not allow a club to sack a manager once the season Is under way. Again this would prevent a club taking a settled manager from another club. The only time a manager could be sacked would be for a case of gross misconduct, and/or where a prosecution is involved. Providing the club itself is not involved. The owners have made their decision on taking on a manager, therefore they should stick with him. I know these views are simplistic, but it would help the smaller clubs to a degree, as they won't lose players or their manger midway through a season.
The FA in my opinion is not interested in anything except the Premier League. Great while you are in it, Not so good if you are not.
Football, for me lost it's shine when Sky and other TV companies started moving KO times all over the place, meaning travelling fans risk missing the end of a game due to getting the last train home. The evening games at Middlesborough are a case in point. The last train to Brum is at 9pm ish.so the poor fans don't see the end of the game.
The money that is coming into the game is all very well, but it is not going to the right places. I fear that many smaller clubs will fail in the coming years, unless larger clubs help them out in some way. The richer clubs just get richer.
Unfortunately it is ultimately the fans who suffer, yet clubs cannot exist without them.
I do not enjoy football anymore. I follow Villa more in hope than expectation and I do have sympathy for what Blues fans are going through. The irony is, BCFC is actually doing okay right now, and I think they have a good chance of getting to the play-offs. You have a gem in Gary Monk,. Do you think you can keep hold of him long enough to get you promoted and away from FFP?
Whatever happens, I think both clubs will be stronger once the FFP noose is withdrawn, whether that be in the Championship, or Premier League.

Yes Gary Monk is doing really well, as to whether we keep him who knows if or when we have a bad run he'll be sacked and if he continues to do well most likely get poached by someone with deeper pockets.
It's quite ironic really as when our latest owners took over they sacked a similar manager in Gary Rowett because they wanted a higher profile name and recruited Zola followed by dear old Harry the pair of them failed and were allowed to spend the money to help get us into our current financial mess.

It really is a funny old game.

This seems to be the ruling for players moving clubs in a season.

Currently, under the FIFA Transfer Regulations, a football player is only allowed to be registered with a maximum of three clubs in one season. This also applies regardless of what country that player has plied his trade in, whether that is in Europe, Africa or South America.

During this period, the player is only eligible to play official matches for two clubs. However, a player may be eligible to play in official matches for a third club during the relevant season if he has moved between two clubs belonging to associations with overlapping seasons (ie, start of the season in summer/autumn as opposed to winter/spring). This is only allowed if he has fully complied with his contractual obligations towards his previous clubs.

Like Brummiegem I've fallen out of love a bit with the way top flight football is organised. As a game I still enjoy it very much, especially at lower levels and until this season I used to love watching one of my grandsons play for a decent standard local side - he is now in Australia on a working visa and playing cricket there.

The game at top level really is all about money, especially satisfying the demands of television that supplies much of it. Fans - the lifeblood of the game - are sidelined to the demands of the Television God with games played on Friday evenings, Saturday lunchtimes, Saturday teatimes, Sunday afternoons, Monday evenings. The last round of the FA Cup saw games moved hither and thither just to satisfy the telly tycoons. My local side Bristol City played Huddersfield Town which is not the sort of game neutrals would be falling over themselves to watch, especially with both clubs fielding under-strength teams (and I'm old enough to remember the 1950s and even into the 1960s when winning the FA Cup was considered more important than winning the First Division - today's Premier League). Yet the game was switched to 5.30pm on Saturday so that viewers in a host of unlikely countries around the world could watch it if they so chose. I wonder how many did. It was not available to watch on Briitsh tv.

There are signs that money is creeping into rugby union in the way that was evident in the early days of footballs' enslavement to the the pound, euro, dollar etc. Players are being signed on wages at what only a few years ago would have been laughed at in the relatively poorer (compared with top flight football) financial climate of rugby.

Cricket too is undergoing a sea change with some first-class players opting out of proper cricket (the red ball game) to concentrate on one-day cricket and 20:20 (the white ball game) where rewards are much higher (especially with 20:20) for a fraction of the work. To me 20:20 is like 5-a-side football but it does bring a very quick result which is consistent with the desire for instant everything in 2019 where patience in any sphere is a scarce commodity.

Returning to football, my cynical nature abhors the player (and there are many) who after scoring a goal will kiss his club's shirt badge with the undoubted desire to demonstrate a lifelong loyalty and love for the club when we know that with most the first time a 'bigger' club steps in with a larger wage offer he will be off without a second glance.

Simon Calder obviously has little to do this week for his regular Saturday Column in the i newspaper. This week he is suggested whether BHX should become Shakespeare International Airport and offers some choices for various airports around the UK.

He thinks Shakespeare International is a given, but I dont think so. If we are looking to attract the Yanks, is Shakespeare more relevant to them than Ozzy Osbourne?

My list would include Olly Murs Airport for Southend. David Beckham International for Stansted. Sir Alex Ferguson Airport for Manchester. Boris Johnson International for Heathrow, just to wind up old foppy head. Churchill for Gatwick as Chartwell can be viewed on approach.

Struggling with East Midlands. Newcastle could be Haddaway which works if you know the non literal meaning.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
