There are 2 aircraft over Warwick. The Aero Sotravia Beech B20l at 27k feet who do the broadcasting and an NPAS Vulcanair at 1.5k feet. My understanding is from reading about these NPAS aircraft is that they have nothing to do with the broadcasting and are operating in a capacity to what an NPAS helicopter would do but are able to stay over one area for longer hence I suspect why they are being used at events that last for several hours ie the road race today.

So why is an apparently a police aircraft involved? I'm curious and happy to be corrected but cannot see the police being involved in public broadcasting there own information gathering yes either way we will probably never know.

The diagram shown is interesting but shows what is the standard way of the signals via a ground vehicle direct to a satellite. Helicopter to aircraft to satellite cannot possibly be the standard way of broadcasting given the amount of live broadcasting instantly available worldwide unless anyone knows different.

Like I say happy to be shown differently.
Hi there. Where are you getting the info that a police plane is involved? DarloPlaneBoy has indeed posted mentioning police, but his last sentence, along with mine, suggests broadcasts of the CWG.

The French Plane might be for French Canadian TV so you maybe onto something there

Hello Richi, the only information/conjecture I have seen is on here and oh350 latest post seems to indicate that the two aircraft are operating on behalf of the NPAS because they have greater endurance the whole event lasts nine hours and he/she states not involved in the actual broadcasting.
To be honest I'm just being curious.

Correct that the 2 aircraft will be carrying out separate functions.
The NPAS Vulcanair as you say having a greater endurance than a helicopter.
The other aircraft will be involved in the broadcast of the cycling, relaying pictures from the helicopters and motorcycles following the race. When the Tour de France start was staged in Yorkshire and subsequently the Tour de Yorkshire was staged it was possible to follow the location of the peleton on FR24 by tracking the broadcast aircraft orbiting above.

Edit upon reading it seems the Plane was there. I also can't help but notice my area Darlaston has had no planes fly over for a week or so. Once they fly over us they turn twoards Town and my old address near to Wednesbury but on FR24 do Aldridge and then Sutton Park. Are they not flying over Darlaston because of the CWG and the Aircraft in that case could the Police Plane be doing both Ground Montioring and Guarding the Airspace if so I'd have thought the RAF would do that from Cosford or that say an FR 737 is allowed over the events to land at BHX unless it is on the French Broadcasting Companies request as they noticed an Easyjet A319 flying over Sutton Park caused interference or they could cause interference with the Aircraft Radio

I believe after hearing an interchange by ATC at Birmingham this morning that there is restricted airspace in force for CWG. There may be even some sort of licence restriction to go through it on a need by need case. Happy to stand corrected though. Anything NOTAM’d ?

Hello admak1 get stuck in we like a good debate its all friendly, and informative.

Living 50m from the 0km start in Warwick for the commonwealth bike races was amazing on Sunday and me and the kids took full advantage. I didn't see any change to the arrivals pattern all day on 33. We had the helicopter at low level all day plus G-POLZ for the men's race, and a king air around 20000 circling all day. On a plus note it was nice seeing the locals look up and appreciate how busy BHX was with the arrivals on 33 all day. For me personally a great day and hope Easyjet finally fill that gap at BHX

Welcome Adam.

As others have already said, post away. We do our best to keep it friendly on here :)

I watched it on FR24. I saw that it went over Cannock which is just north of were I was born and brought up in Bloxwich.

Willenhall then Cannock then I assume there close after that we did actually get planes coming into land on runway 15 here in Darlaston Couple of FR, Jet2 mostly 738's but couple or one A321 of Jet2. Speaking of Fighter Jets a few years ago Probably 2019/2020 Winter Time I had an after school class at school In Willenhall it was complouslary I think it was Winter it weren't fully Dark when I left Maybe Spring as it was getting Dark when I went home Yet again I may have had another Lesson after. Anyway At the end of Class it was History I saw out the window a convoy/formation of 3 or 4 Fighter Jets and pointed. Then as I was leaving School another 3 or 4 in formation flew over ahead. Then as I was waiting for the bus 3/4 possibly 1 or 2 after flew over I couldn't see As it was getting dark then as I returned home I heard another 1 or 2 flew overhead. I never figured out or found out why they flew over Lodge Farm and Darlaston. I assumed maybe they were returning to Cosford for something bur then looking at a Map Cosford was almost behind where I saw them. I still to this day don't know I wasn't the only one that saw me people had seen them and posted on Social Media but it was weird. Let's say 12 to 14 Fighter Jets all flying over within half an hour also seen Helicopters all Black Possibly Apaches fly over Darlaston before they flew over us twice flying somewhere No idea where then back again

Another F15 Eagle Strike flew over Cannock I think eairler and We might have another Fighter Jet fly over heard a large roar no aircraft on FR24 Tracking so Persumably Fighter Jet not Tracking ie Quick Response or Private Missions
