Hi guys.Hope you all had a grand and summer weekendish.Anyway so at the moment I’m currently unemployed which is the reason I’m on here as per usual anyway it just goes to show how much I like planes and Aviation into context.I basically wanted to ask if theirs any jobs at the airport within the route development regime department as I have fresh ideas,Fascinating research and accelerating routes that can bolster the airports solutions to expansion the next few years which in my view must be an exciting opportunity .

Sorry for putting in this topic or thread whatever you call it however I didn’t where I was putting it.If theirs any admin jobs on here it would mean the world of goodness.

Have you thought of contacting the airport directly and asking if they are made aware of what positions the different companies are trying to fill? The airport website might only show positions the airport company has to offer but there's no harm in asking.

First impression is everything, so any application that does not read well will almost certainly be rejected.

If you keep your eye on LinkedIn, there are very regular jobs fairs for airport jobs, i.e. the roles in catering/ground handling/etc.

There are a few 'BHX Ltd' roles currently being advertised (aside from the perpetual security roles). Getting in the door somehow is always a good strategy to get towards an eventual 'dream' role, so definitely keep an eye on those.

As others have said a foot in the door is the best approach rather than thinking about Diamond House.
If you worked 7 days a week you might need to let yourself in and lock up !

Diamond House is probably more a 9-5 (ish), 5 days/week environment, unless on the operational side of things. Airport jobs will be more shift based. I've no idea of the shift pattern, but i guess there will be a standard approach which will mix up 'earlys', 'lates' or 'nights' all focused around passenger/flight demand forecasts - there is no point anyone being there when the airport is empty, alas.

I doubt you will have much ability to pick your shifts as a new starter, though - i would expect a large number of shifts arriving at the airport at 3am and finishing at lunchtime, for example. Of course, getting there at that time isnt necessarily easy particularly if you dont have a car. One of the reasons why the surface access strategy pleaded regularly for overnight frequently and well connected bus and (to some extent) train services.

But yes - foot in the door is a good step. Even if you are in an airport role employed by a contractor (e.g. Menzies) or for that matter a role working with one of the airlines (vs BHX Ltd. roles in Diamond House), you will get behind the scenes knowledge and have access to a network of people which will help in the long run.

Alas no matter how many good ideas you have, the prospect of walking in to a dream job without any actual experience is vanishingly small. But it will be possible if you demonstrate a desire to 'climb the ladder'.

I know this is a BHX forum and what I am about to say is concerning LHR and every where north and west of sunny Essex.

But is there any airline or aircraft that can still be considered 'exotic'?

Here I am in the back garden and overhead fly A380s down to A320s and the odd turbo prop. Just about all the national carriers. Add to that the 30,000 ft plus overflights from Europe to North America and a stream of flights to, mainly to UK airports, even to Brum...

And yet I have become Blaise. "Yeah, so what a Patagonian 777 freighter...yawn, had three of those yesterday."

Oddly the most exciting thing, other than the odd Spitfire (merlin of course) and the Red Arrows, the most exciting overflight which gets me grabbing for FR24 every night is the dolcet drone of a weird prop freighter at an ungodly hour!

Just wondering whether those in the middle England yearn for exotics, or have I, here in Essex become numb?

Nope, we're more than happy with our endless streams of 737's, 787's and A320/1's

In fairness we do get a little bit of variety into STS along with military movements and EMA can be decent on the cargo side.

Sadly it’s the same at most airports these days. On holiday the planes departing Kos fly right over the beach and it was just an endless run of 737s/A320 and the odd TUI Dreamliner. The only “exotic” plane was a TUI 767 from Amsterdam. Condor have even stopped sending the 757-300s now.

Those were the days. Flying to Menorca on a Caledonian TriStar from Gatwick was something else because you never saw them at BHX.

Caledonian flew the TriStar to Mahon every Friday from BHX. I cannot remember which summer...somewhere around 87-90??

N.b. I'm almost positive it was Mahon... definitely every Friday afternoon though - KT134 maybe
