Would it be possible to move the petition to a more prominent place on the forum to get the maximum amount of exposure? There must be quite a number of people that who don't looķ at anything in the Birmingham section that would be happy to sign

I've created a thread in the General Discussions area, hopefully a few more people will see it.

I've added the picture of the building contained in the petition, if it belongs to anyone and they want it removed I will do so?

Good to see over 500 signatures and still rising (y)

I've been thinking about this and a possible way that everyone could win.

The building is of immense historical significance and far too important to just be demolished, but, it's most likely very expensive to maintain and smack bang in the middle of what could potentially be very important development land for the airport. In an ideal world I think we'd all love it if it could be integrated into a potential new terminal but I'm not convinced that will happen.

Richard's idea of a museum dedicated to the Spitfire is a fantastic one but how about taking it a step further?

Move the building closer to Castle Brom, possibly the old LDV site, and have it form the grand entrance to a national aviation museum. It could tell the story of aviation from the first flight through to the modern era and what is possibly to come in the future. There could be a hangar dedicated to the Spitfire, Lancaster etc and what a vital part they played in our history. With plenty of interactive displays it could become a firm family favourite. I don't see it being that difficult to run a tram along the A47 linking it to Central Birmingham?

It just needs someone with a few spare millions to make it happen :(

Petitions often make people feel better about themselves but it’s hard cold cash which makes the most influence! Anyone got any?!

Way over 1050 signatures...think I will find myself in trouble with the airport! Thanks for all your signatures and shares! What I could do with is some email addresses Contacts to direct the petition at..not neccessarily airport but councilors, preservation groups etc thanks

Evening mail?

Thinking about it: the 1960's extension has been demolished leaving the original terminal in blissful isolation. Notwithstanding that it had a couple of tenants, still it stands. If the airport do not see a use for it or its integration into a more comprehensive redevelopment of the Elmdon site, then it would have gone by now.

Whilst I would love to see a community use it will need to earn its keep. But a viewing facility as part of it....:)

I'm most definitely no businessman but I can't see why a combined a combined vistors centre/restaurant/viewing area couldn't be viable. A quality restaurant would be extremely popular given it's unique location, as would a museum/heritage centre given what appears to be a resurgence of interest in our past after years of being quietly swept under the carpet. The biggest hurdle would obviously be the investment needed and the possible plans for the Elmdon side of the airport which nobody (certainly on here) seems to know for sure.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
