ed-force-one-resized.jpg

Ed Force One, the Boeing 747 jet that Iron Maiden will be using on their Book of Souls World tour, is coming to Cardiff Airport .

The plane is currently in the United Arab Emirates for maintenance and painting.

It is due into Cardiff on Wednesday, February 17, around 10pm, the Aviation Wales website reported .

Ed Force One will be at Cardiff Airport for a couple of days before heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on February 19, where they kick off their tour on February 24.

WOW, Cardiff is just a little bit too far to warrant a visit. Shame though! It's a long shot but are there no photographers in Cardiff who might want to take some pictures to share with us?

I must confess that I've never been a great music fan and although I'd heard of Iron Maiden (what I think of as a pop group - that's my generation used to call this sort of ensemble) I'd never heard of Bruce Dickinson until he set up his aviation maintenance facility at the former RAF St Athan site, just down the road from CWL.

I believe that he was once an airline captain with Astraeus, something he took to after he had become a well-known singer.

He certainly seems to be heavily involved in aviation with his St Athan venture seemingly going from strength to strength.

Although I'm just across the Severn estuary from CWL I won't be able to visit to see this aircraft. I often see aircraft on approach for CWL's r/w 30 as they fly over the area between the south of Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. Unfortunately, Ed Force One seems scheduled to arrive late in the evening.

I'm at work otherwise I'd have been very tempted to make a visit.

Having a look at the Iron Maiden tour dates it seems that their only UK appearance is to be at Download Festival on 12th June. If it's scheduled in to EMA that weekend I may brave the traffic.

Wales v France 6 Nations Rugby Friday 26 February 2016

I don't always get around to checking all the extra flights that operate in connection with big rugby matches in Cardiff, especially those involving France and Ireland, but I thought I'd have a look at what is happening/has happened for this evening's match.

The following rugby flights have arrived or will arrive later today.

Thursday 25 February

Air France B 777 from Paris Orly
Carpatair F 100 from Toulouse

Friday 26 February

Enter Air B 734/738 from Paris Cdg (x 3), Lyon, Marseille

Which airline did the Wales football squad use when it flew out from CWL to Sweden today with ultimate destination France for Euro 2016?

Maleth Aero Boeing 737-300 which has a reg of 9H-AJW departed to Stockholm-Arlanda late this afternoon to quite a bit of media attention and other events, videos and photos on the FA Wales Facebook page and also Cardiff airport Twitter, the aircraft took the squad out to Faro last week for the training camp

Many thanks. I'd never heard of Maleth Aero but a quick web search reveals them to be a Maltese charter company and 9H-AJW is owned by Aerovista, a UAE ACMI company but operated by Maleth. Also has a Maltese reg so presumably it's a long term lease. I've also looked on CWL Twitter page and note the aircraft seems to be in an all-white livery from pics there.

Do you know if the squad will use this aircraft to get around France between the various venues?

Ironically I had never heard of them either until the ACMI flights that have been operated from here, it's been in all white ever since the Flyvista operations came to an end I believe, although that may not be entiley accurate, I'm not too sure if this will be the aircraft for the transportation between Venus in Bordeaux, Lens and Toulouse, although it will be interesting to see

Thanks Craig. Will be interesting to follow.

I shall be away from Monday for a while so won't be in a position to keep up to date with such things. Should be back the day after England play Wales. I shall be passing not too far from Lens by train on the day of the match but no chance of seeing it. Haven't got tickets anyway which is always a problem.

Your very welcome , have a great trip Local :)

G-OBYG Boeing 763 operated this afternoons Thomson flight to Larnaca, the based 737 didn't appear to pick up any delays returning from Malaga so it's quite intriguing, unless a technical issue has occurred. The 767 aircraft is scheduled to operate both the outward and inbound rotations with flight numbers 6756/6757

737-800(TUI Netherlands) PH-TFB operated a charter to Toulouse this morning- Thanks to SWAG for this information.

Thanks for that Craig. It may be down to aircraft availability or (as you say) a technical issue with the based 738. Worth keeping an eye on. Balkan Holidays have operated a 330 into BRS for the past two weekends on their Burgas service reportedly because of availability issues with the usual 320.

I take it the TUI (Netherlands) flight to Toulouse this morning was in connection with tomorrow's Wales v Russia Euro 16 match in that city.

Indeed will be interesting, Balkan have seemingly had a few issues within there fleet over the course of the last few weeks , LZ-AWA (A330) has also operated the last two Sundays from here for Balkans Burgas service where as a few weeks go we also saw TC-ETF (A321) operating.

The 767 LCA for TOM today puzzles me too, in my eyes it must have been planned beforehand at least since there was no delay in its departure and the two based 738's seem ok ! So not entirely sure on the reasoning. Sounds like either the 763 was required at LCA, or something the 763 may be capable of carrying.

The Balkan A330 has been used on numerous if not all BGH flights ex UK over the last two weeks or so with an A320 shortage at present in the Balkan fleet which i believe is due to maintenance of one of the airframes.

Many congratulation to Wales for a superb 3-0 win over Russia. I spent the evening watching England huffing and puffing against Slovakia.

This will surely mean some additional flights. Wales will be playing one of the third-placed countries at Parc des Princes in Paris at 1700 hours this coming Saturday.

Just wondering if anyone knows who Eastern Airways are doing an Ibiza flight from Cardiff today. EZE9618 is the flight number. Always thought they operated small local planes?

Don't know the reason but they do have some E45 small jets. May be a private charter of some sort. bmi regional with similar aircraft certainly operates such flights from time to time with a two hour flight time not unusual.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
