Manchester: Infrastructure, Developments and Construction

Yes, thank you.

So dual runway ops only go past 10am-1030 on weekdays, not weekends? I think I have grasped it.

Further to recent rumours, Manchester Airport Operations Manager Rad Taylor confirmed the following at his presentation to TAS earlier this evening: there is no current plan to relocate the Runway Visitor Park to the South-Side to make way for an apron extension over its current location. He's not saying it would never happen in the long term, but it is not planned at the moment.

Me thinking aloud ... In view of this clarification, I hope MAG have identified an alternative location to construct additional parking stands because they're desperately needed. The TP apron extension is primarily a replacement exercise ... it won't provide a significant increase in aircraft stands. Somewhere in the vicinity of T3 (usable by RYR/BEE etc) would be great ... PLEASE!!! 🙂

The TP has been the main topic of earlier TAS meetings so it was only mentioned in passing tonight. Main takeaways were that there will be three A380-capable contact stands, seven islands of check-in desks and twenty four security lanes. Considerable effort and investment is being directed towards simplifying the airside layout of the airport (from a pilot's perspective).

Rad also mentioned 31 Air Bridges. I'm sure someone will have an accurate figure but isn't the present combined figure for T2 and T1 pretty close to that?

T1 and T2 currently have 28 stands with jetbridge, or 29 if you count stand 12 being capable of having 2 A320 sized aircraft connected to the jetbridges when the A380 not in.

Also, regarding the AVP moving, Rad would not have been in a position to talk about that yet, so, don't take his answer as gospel. It's like new routes, airlines won't announce them until THEY want to announce it.

Hi EGCC_MAN

Thanks for sharing the info you have - much appreciated.

Was the implication that these stands were specifically for the A380 or Code F more generally?

It strikes me that MAN is more likely to see more examples of the B77X than the A380...

Worth mentioning T3 has just had £1.2m on a new baggage carousel and system to try and cope with the huge increase in demand.

However, looking at Twitter daily, it seems it's the actual arrivals process that needs some work, as not a day goes by without several disgruntled complaints about E-gates, passport control and queues.

Great news especially as last nights Edinburgh media were speculating about suggesting that Edinburgh Airport might also gain this as well as Manchester.

Whilst I was critical of speculating on timeframes for US new services 2 OR 3 years down the line i do acknowledge this is a very tangible piece of good news that "might' be persuasive enough to consider THAT DATE for the launch of new services.

Of course on the downside it might make an airline considering an earlier launch of a marginal route in 2017 or 2018 hang back and wait until it's in place especially as it's aimed at more time conscious higher yield passengers.

USPBC will be a fantastic facility to have.

The amount of direct traffic from MAN to the USA that routes via DUB in part because of their facility is enormous. If executed well it may see the western routes start to catch up with the Eastern ones...

"If other UK airports grow – Lord Deighton highlighted Manchester and Edinburgh as examples – more flights will come into Heathrow to use it as a hub, while those regional airports can also offer more direct flights to the most popular destinations such as New York and Paris."

Err so we won't be mentioning the any of the "thin" long-haul routes that are available but mention a city that a lot of UK airports already link to and should be regarded as staple fare as there will always be a market for Paris regardless of being inside the EU or no.

Very nice of the LHR CEO to 'allow' regional airports to grow. Very amicable of him!

They have to say things like that to try and avoid falling foul of competition law....

... Which they may find tough.

Poorly worded article. The 10 airports have been added to the list of potential candidates and not have been given approval.

Ah, thanks David. The mention of EDI in an earlier post was the first I recall hearing about them.

Not airport news but the local paper suggesting 5b investment in North from China see Manchester evening new business.

Bit odd as headline screams billions as if it 5 10 20 but it's not. it's just 1.3 and not exactly transport infastructure !

Good either way for Manchester Airport traffic hopefully !

No mention of Airport City North.

Well, the media industry is certainly one to keep an eye on as they traditionally generate a premium demand. Doubling the size of media city must help.

The biggest draw will be HS3 and the trans pennine tunnel - dragging the city regions of Liverpool, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcatle, York, the East Midlands and others further into the MAN carchment will make an enormous difference.

I agree Dobbo that HS3 could be a vital cog for MAN. It is longer term however and we also need some shorter term improvements to keep things moving. Actually, I suspect MAN already gets a sizeable flow of pax on those existing trans pennine trains from Middlesborough, York, Leeds, Sheffield etc.

A question for those who take a strong interest in rail developments which are relevant to the airport. Is the intention, if known at this stage, for HS3 to run into Victoria from the East and then via the Ordsall Chord through to the existing airport line and station, or would it in some way link up to the HS2 line?

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
